- ThetaDot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29WHAT!? No support for nano-seconds! A TRAVESTY, I DO DECLARE!
- cblalock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Pretty cool.
I was actually hoping though that it was going to support clickable links in the video itself. Like watching Ctrl-Alt-Chicken and having a clickable link for the recipe, or watching a review podcast/video and being able to go directly to the product site if you're interested. - BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Same here. Google or YouTube should definitely provide a way to make your own Pop-Up-Video style videos with links in the popups.
I guess we'll always have the dream. - cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15when they stop trying to innovate.....
- LazArt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10what's great about google video, and especially with this new feature, is you don't have to wait for the whole thing to download to "THE" section you want. With youtube, you can't jump to "THE" part you want unless it downloads all the way to "THE" part... this is nice :)
When will we hate google as much as we hate Microsoft? - bmharris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I think it's a good feature, I hate it when someone sends me a 20 minute video, and there like, you gotta see this one part, skip ahead, and you spend forever trying to find the right spot. It's not spectacular, but its a nice enhancement.
- mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@bloodjunkie: actually, that would be pretty neat, and is actually quite doable. Someone (read:not me) needs to do it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Oh yeah, I can't wait for clickable referral links to advertisers from within flash vids :P
- Funkly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This (when i say this, i mean clickable links with in the video) is available DIVX.. look it up.. I think h.264 has a capability like that too
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think iTunes (and therefore, QuickTime) have something like that functionality in podcasts.
- kingace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@MrSunshine: Yeah, but you still have to move the slider to the right position, which is very imprecise.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4streaming flash 7 + is easier by default
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Huh??
- andreizilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's what I was hoping for.
I instantly thought of watching Digg-nation on Google Video, and having links pop up in the video or in the nav bar as I watch the vid. - aptget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"works well with Windows Media Player and IE6 or better"
You lost me right there. Goodbye. - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Must be hard to tell someone that the interesting part is around mm:ss (for example 09:31)...
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah I would think that would be easily doable considering these guys both use Flash.
- solace7x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2AWESOME!
- b0wl0fud0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Direct link to explosion:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7753921336651131261#3m55s - j3one, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1COYOT3, the title is a little miss-leading, but with a little followup you will note that it only allows you to build a link to the video that skips it to a certain time.
I agree that it would be a BAD idea to make links in the videos, because it would be too easy for a viral video to literally spread a virus by popularity... mainly by directing people to a page that might exploit them. - wsanders, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3They could at least include support to link to each individual frame
- wpholmes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Quicktime supports chapters, you can do it in iMovie for one.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2youtube now has links to other videos at the end of the video
other cool features not sure how to discribe them though - LazArt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you jealous? This guy can do whatever he wants. Who cares if he has a life, works for Digg....... as long as I get good info.
- kayluhb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've actually been working on the veotag.com site that Arkasha mentioned that has offered direct links into video and audio content for several months now. It's really pretty cool and completely free for the time being. You can upload flash, windows media files, and quicktime files and send a direct link to a specific part of your media.
one of the cooler things about veotag is that the tags are then indexed by google. if you do a search on site:veotag.com bill gates in google, you can jump directly to any point in that video that has been tagged.
we aren't offering conversion just yet, and you do have to install the active X plugin for windows media files to work correctly in firefox (kind of annoying, but you only have to do it once), but we've got a lot of cool things we're working on that should be deployed in the following months. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This sounds like an excellent opportunity to place both spyware, adware, and virii onto a user's machine. GG.
- mcochran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Does anyone know if there is a way to do this same thing using rtsp on a quicktime file? We're looking for a way to do "chapters" on videos, but everyone keeps telling us we need to create separate files for the chapters, when we'd obviously prefer to just link to a timecode in the video.
- zoombusa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The joys of flash. I believe this feature has been around for a few.
- Arkasha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0there is a cool new site- www.veotag.com - that does most of the stuff this group asked for. - running comments which are clickable links to any point inside any video. You can jump straight to any part of a video or audio stream, email a link to that part of a video, its automatically searched by Google, AND it works with Flash, QT, and Winmed. I just watched an hour long speech by Dalai Lama at Rutgers and I wanted to see just the part about Life and Death - jumped straight to it!!!
- LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Actually, it probably is their fault.
- Arkasha, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0wait no longer - check out this video : http://www.veotag.com/player/?u=sdvfrefydb
- hseibel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Also works well in Quicktime, Flash, Firefox, others - see http://www.veotag.com for full technical info
- mikkaworkscom, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0If google just made their video available in more countries, works in neither Korea or China.
please visit my organic production company in China: http://www.mikkaworks.com - juanito133, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0It's not their fault they have no friends.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2To the submitter of this Digg article: BloodJunkie, who the heck are you? Why do you submit links every 15 minutes? Do you even have a life, spending your days submitting to Digg? What exactly do you get out of it, especially with other people saving so much time reading articles only..
I know those questions seem mean, but I have a theory that the top 10 Digg submitters.........are actually Digg employees who keep Digg active with the latest information, especially if other sites (e.g. Slashdot) have covered them. - hseibel, on 10/12/2007, -14/+0My company, veotag (http://www.veotag.com), has a more robust solution to "deep linking" and "deep tagging" of audio and video..
For a sample, please go to http://www.veotag.com/jalc and select any of the programs listed. You’ll see the video start to play, and the clickable text will appear right next to it (works well with Windows Media Player and IE6 or better).
With veotag, audio and video producers can describe for their audiences what’s inside a video or audio file and let them click directly to parts they want, eliminating a lot of frustration.
The basic service is free. Please take a look and let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Howard
