- joestump, on 07/31/2008, -3/+189Since they didn't include it in the blog post, I should mention this was Jeff's (affectionately known in the offices as "Diggtern") first project at Digg. The iPhone version of the site gets a crazy amount of traffic (I think ~1.5m page views a month). When he was done I said, "Congrats! This is officially the largest most used site you've ever worked on!" Kind of funny when you think about it.
At any rate, great job Jeff! Thanks for all of your great work on this and the other stuff you've been working on (e.g. PEAR's Services_Facebook).
--Joe - shupp, on 07/31/2008, -3/+114Great job Jeff and Daniel!
- dagamer34, on 07/31/2008, -8/+97Kevin, WHERE'S MY DIGG IPHONE APP? EVEN POWNCE HAS ONE! COME ON MAN!
- JeffHodsdon, on 07/31/2008, -0/+56Daniel did an awesome job making sure it works on most mobile browsers, so check it out on other devices!
- JeffHodsdon, on 07/31/2008, -1/+43True story. Thankfully I have smart people to bug when I have questions :) Thanks Joe and all Digg devs, they make it very easy to learn with all their help!
- dfltr, on 07/31/2008, -0/+42so now that the Diggtern is done with this, can we put him back on coffee duty?
- Emachine, on 07/31/2008, -3/+41Crap, outside WAS the only place I was safe from my Digg addiction.
- wallryan, on 07/31/2008, -2/+38still can't add comments from it....
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -3/+29Awesome! Now I have something to do while I poop.
Opera Mini is a great free Java download to get iPhone-like browsing on even low end phones - CrushThemTorg, on 07/31/2008, -1/+25Score! Now I can be a jerk remotely. Bravo, Diggtern.
- Hax0rJimDuggan, on 07/31/2008, -5/+28No comments = fail
- volksport, on 07/31/2008, -3/+26Looks great Jeff
- sockpuppets, on 07/31/2008, -0/+20Group hug. Put down your powerbooks and lattes first.
- inactive, on 07/31/2008, -5/+24WTF, I can't leave comments? Buried from my laptop, since I had to put down my phone to say this.
- sockpuppets, on 07/31/2008, -1/+19And his brother Jack!
- Loyaleagle, on 07/31/2008, -1/+19I wish they would make an App....I'm constantly logged out on the old mobile version and it's such a pain to log back in just to digg one story occasionally. Still, glad it got upgraded....the new features are things I was wanting too.
- ajvchuk, on 07/31/2008, -0/+18Big ups to the diggtern!
- d1sturbdapeace, on 07/31/2008, -0/+17Says the one who just left a comment... :p
- isosdcftp, on 07/31/2008, -0/+15For an even lighter version, theres always diggriver.com
- JeffHodsdon, on 07/31/2008, -0/+13It will now remember you by default, w00t!
However cookies are different from the main site and the mobile site. Therefore when you are logged in on one you are not necessarily logged in on the other. - championchap, on 08/01/2008, -0/+13I'm with you on that one.
The web interface is nice.. and i understand why it's more important to develop the web version than just an iPhoe app (larger market).
But still, it would be nice to have a native app sometime soon. - blink21, on 07/31/2008, -0/+13Now I just have to stop myself from continuing to call it our iPhone application!
- blink21, on 07/31/2008, -0/+12which means once you login again on m.digg.com it should keep remembering you (the old app was notorious for forgetting you once in a while)
- Gandhilion, on 07/31/2008, -0/+12Yeah the mobile version loads faster and looks a lot cleaner on the psp.
- crazydoglady1, on 07/31/2008, -0/+12Isn't Jeff no longer a Diggtern? He's official now!!
- sfrench, on 07/31/2008, -0/+11Not completely correct. We've had an iphone app for over a year now, but this recent update added some additional new functionality, bug fixes, and we also added the m.digg.com subdomain.
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -2/+12I agree, good job. But can I be a bit selfish and say - where the hell is the iphone app? Complete with comments, and all the fun stuff I get from the site, w/o crashing my phone.
- howdareyou, on 07/31/2008, -1/+11I was just on m.revision3 the other day and was wondering why digg didn't have a mobile version.
Thanks so much for this Digg team! - MikeSetera, on 07/31/2008, -2/+10Looks awesome and works great on my iPod. Wish I could leave / digg comments though.
- debuggercll, on 07/31/2008, -5/+13And also Jeff Daniels!
- monkeymad2, on 07/31/2008, -2/+9Yeah!
The way it panned over to the story instead of loading a new page, then went back to the list view just as quickly.
Can we get it back......please?
(Also, image thumbnails on the articles would be nice)
(And an option to open links in a new tab) - Shaunzio, on 08/01/2008, -1/+8And Jesus!
- yevkasem, on 07/31/2008, -1/+8digg isn't necessarily my favorite news site, but i've consistently used the mobile site as my #1 news source on my phone because the site is so well done.
excellent work. - monkeymad2, on 08/01/2008, -0/+7They did...and it was quicker than this is
- cvrefugee, on 07/31/2008, -0/+6Looks good on my Motorola Q9c.
- diadelsuerte, on 08/01/2008, -0/+6I'd like to say thank you to neutronlaser. I have been using the clunky blackberry browser for awhile and was very disappointed with it - to the point where I was almost considering dropping cash on an iphone just to get a usable browser. I had no idea that anything like opera mobile existed - I immediately installed it and can't be happier with the way it performs when stacked against what I was previously using
Your post saved me 200+ bucks and I will be forever grateful. - wontstoptalking, on 07/31/2008, -1/+7Yes. And now it is better.
- sockpuppets, on 07/31/2008, -0/+5In Soviet Russia.... well, I can still be a jerk on Digg.
- specialK16, on 08/01/2008, -0/+5Seriously, Opera Mini is like a thousand times better than the Internet Explorer Mobile.
- smingram, on 07/31/2008, -0/+5Love it. Would love to be able to leave a comment, even though I never do. Isn't that called wanting what you can't have, even if you don't need it. I would like to to feed pizza into my face as well.
- svensksvamp, on 07/31/2008, -1/+6And Robert!
- mdassoc, on 07/31/2008, -0/+4Stay classy, diggtern!
- boneill428, on 07/31/2008, -2/+6Awesome job Jeff!
- Daniel591992, on 08/01/2008, -0/+4Thanks.
- phantom_mullet, on 08/01/2008, -0/+4Looks pretty good on my Windows Mobile phone.
- Walker2323, on 08/01/2008, -1/+5And Terrence!
- TimeIsTissue, on 08/01/2008, -1/+5And Phillip!
- Daniel591992, on 07/31/2008, -2/+6Does it work well on the PSP?
- mhuggins, on 08/01/2008, -0/+4Oh snap, I didn't know there was a Services_Facebook set of classes in PEAR!
- lordtyros, on 07/31/2008, -4/+8lol diggriver looks just like reddit
