- zephyr42, on 04/13/2008, -9/+227Never was a *huge* fan of Nvidia but any company willing to call shenanigans and challenge Intels graphics dept is a-okay in my book. Intel's onboard graphics need to die.
- grexeo, on 04/13/2008, -21/+197How much faster can you render the blue screen of death?
- Unriggable, on 04/13/2008, -14/+149My new favorite CEO.
- manitoba98xp, on 04/13/2008, -15/+145I'm not normally that picky about grammar, but don't put in "whom" just to sounds sophisticated. It's "…analysts, WHO quickly broke out into laughter". "who" is used for subjects (though I accept it for objects, since that's accepted in colloquy), "whom" ONLY for objects.
Example: I like my dog, who eats frequently. I like my dog, whom I feed frequently. - Shuk, on 04/13/2008, -0/+110So that's what they will call their line of video cards after the 9 series!
- svensko, on 04/13/2008, -8/+90As long as there is continued Linux support, nVidia will continue to get my money. :)
- Ruger11mcrdpi, on 04/13/2008, -5/+77You also installing new graphics cards would not be in contrast to my statement at all. I don't think it's boring, and in fact is actually relavant to the topic! Congrats on your new cards, I wish I had the cash for those! My point is that unlike 99% ofthe posts on Digg where everyone seems to compete for the best sarcastic joke, I made a statement that actually related to the topic story. And I got dugg down. That's awesome. I should have simply made a joke about Ati or thrown in a "Go Obama!" to get + diggs! gotta love this site sometimes.
- Ellipsys, on 04/13/2008, -1/+68Is that Open Source Driver-based whoop ass?
- emotecontrol, on 04/13/2008, -6/+69Buried for the amazing number of spelling and grammar errors. Seriously, guys. Hire an editor.
- themastersb, on 04/13/2008, -0/+46I think you got ripped off. "NVIDEA" sounds like a Chinese knock-off of NVIDIA
- ExRe, on 04/13/2008, -7/+51What is wrong with intel's onboard graphics? They don't use much power at all and are much more than the far majority of computers need. I've used onboard Intel graphics for the last year on my main pc (laptop), and I've not had a single instance where I've needed a better gpu in my normal usage. Gaming is not something everybody does on their pc.
- nitsmeister, on 04/13/2008, -1/+43100 FPS stable :O
- Smills, on 04/13/2008, -11/+47Ok... Thanks for telling us... In direct contrast to your statement I just installed two 3870X2's in my computer. See how boring it is to hear me say that? No-one cares.
- tgunner, on 04/13/2008, -0/+35Competition never hurts.
- inactive, on 04/13/2008, -1/+32This is a geek society.
- Spuy767, on 04/13/2008, -2/+30Intel's Onboard solutions are designed for one thing, mundane office work. If you send e-mails and write documents in MS Word all day, why in the ***** would you need a discreen 8800 Ultra?
- DarkPrince11, on 04/13/2008, -1/+26You're thinking of ATI & AMD.
- Elpea, on 04/13/2008, -15/+39"How much faster can you render a blue screen of death?"
- GothAlice, on 04/13/2008, -2/+25ATI Linux "support" is *****. Plain and simple. After attempting to get full 3D acceleration working on high-end models from both manufacturers, nVidia's worked out of the box far more painlessly. Even on ATI cards three generations old I can't get full 3D working in 64-bit. It would be better if they didn't offer -any- form of "support" and left graphics driver hackers to do their thing. (And no, I couldn't get the OS drivers working on the older ATI card, either.)
- Smills, on 04/13/2008, -8/+30Well really, ATI currently have the most Linux support.
- coheedcollapse, on 04/13/2008, -1/+19I can't wait until they implement the PhysX processing in all of the newer card models. That's going to be amazing.
- solid12345, on 04/13/2008, -2/+18Of course Nvidia wants to call shenanigans, they want the average user to think they need a Geforce 9800 to run Google Earth and the 3D effects in Vista.
- caleb4mj, on 04/13/2008, -1/+17My vNidia cards still work better.
But I have a GeForce 7600 GT with 12 pixel shaders. Even 320 stream processors is not a very tempting upgrade right now. If they make more games for Linux I will have more reason to invest in the next generation of graphics technology. - mtekk, on 04/13/2008, -1/+17No, Intel GMA currently has the best Linux support, Intel pays for the development of open source drivers for it. That doesn't mean GMA is a 3D powerhouse.
- manitoba98xp, on 04/13/2008, -7/+23Before someone else picks these up, I'd just like to correct a couple of errors in my own comment:
1) I meant "just to sound sophisticated". I accidentally hit the "s" key in addition to the "d" key there.
2) I accidentally said "colloquy", when I meant "colloquial speech". The two are opposites. :) - bonlebon, on 04/13/2008, -5/+21ATI has been eating from cans of whoop ass for months (not to say years). Even after being adopted by AMD, they've failed to gain any weight in the video card arena.
- MasterChief4134, on 04/13/2008, -7/+23I'm risking getting buried for this but...I dugg you up because i felt sorry for you...
- AmaDaden, on 04/13/2008, -2/+17Yeah but recently ATI has done one better. They not only made a Linux driver but they opened it as well. If nVidia does not do the same soon I'm switching. I have more faith in the Linux kernel community having a part in the driver design then leaving it all up to the people who made the card.
- Bayman, on 04/13/2008, -3/+18'"We're going to open a can of whoop ass," he told analysts, whom quickly broke out into laughter.'
Probably because of his accent... :D - Kennerk, on 04/13/2008, -5/+19i hear with this set, you can see the BSOD as soon as you open Windows!!!!!
- dOOBiEx213, on 04/13/2008, -2/+16I guess it wasn't THAT easy.
- SuperMoses, on 04/13/2008, -0/+14The CEO of NVIDIA turned into Stone Cold Steve Austin?
- thylacine222, on 04/13/2008, -1/+15Frankly, NVIDIA Open Source drivers are better than nothing. Yes, I would love to have completely open source drivers, and I completely support Nouveau, but I don't think actively creating drivers for Linux counts as actively suppressing it.
- Rendonsmug, on 04/13/2008, -1/+15Probably X800
- Strykar, on 04/13/2008, -1/+14Is Huang making fun of himself? WTF? nvidia drivers cuase the most BSODs so that statement would sound right coming from intel.
- mattwalton56, on 04/13/2008, -6/+18Fail = Win
then yes, they epic fail - Protoss, on 04/13/2008, -3/+15They opened it but the drivers still suck balls.
- Marvelboy, on 04/13/2008, -2/+14Am I the only one who thought at first that NVIDIA was opening up their drivers? Wishful thinking on my part :(
- AmaDaden, on 04/13/2008, -1/+12For now. Open source takes time but once it gets good it tends to stay good. I recently built a computer and got a nVidia instead of an ATI because I knew that the ATI driver would not be worth using yet. I expect that by the time I need to build a new PC ATI will beat nVidia....unless they open their driver soon. Since nVidia's driver has been out for a while I expect it would a lot easier to get running awesomely then the newly written ATI driver
- missingnoh4x, on 04/13/2008, -9/+19Would that can of whoop ass possibly involve making decent open-source drivers? Or at least publishing documentation on each card's architecture so other can write decent drivers? Yeah, I didn't think so.
Hardware manufacturers like Nvidia seem like they're trying actively to suppress Linux, BSD, etc. ***** Nvidia. - BrainInAJar, on 04/13/2008, -4/+14I buy intel chipset motherboards for one reason and one reason only... Open-source drivers.
Not for Linux support, because I don't use Linux. I use much more esoteric operating systems, and the intel drivers give me some rudimentary 3d support no matter how strange I want to get.
Until nV offers that, they'll not get a dime from me - bonnain, on 04/14/2008, -1/+11Well, you did reply... does that mean you're lame, too?
- griz, on 04/13/2008, -1/+11So you can smoothly scroll through your e-mail of course. No one lines it when their e-mail scrolling all jumpy. Who can work like that?
- TitaniumLizzard, on 04/13/2008, -0/+9Don't forget Seagate's Bill Watkins:

http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/30/magazines/fortune/ ... - inferno10, on 04/13/2008, -1/+9Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo said something similar at E3: "My name is Reggie, I'm about kicking ass, I'm about taking names, and we're about making games!"
- TeacherOfHeroes, on 04/13/2008, -1/+8While the drivers may not yet reflect this, ATi has recently begun disclosing most (if not all) of the specs for their GPUs. From a practical point of view, nVidia is better supported by linux, but linux is better supported by ATi
- inactive, on 04/13/2008, -0/+7***** the RIAA.
- 15thPD, on 04/13/2008, -0/+7In about a week I'm going to install 2 9800 GTXs and a quad-core QX6850. Now that's exciting.
- mattwalton56, on 04/13/2008, -2/+9you're*
sorry :/ - Vician, on 04/13/2008, -1/+8I think most people would disagree with that. Nvidia, under every Linux distro I've bothered to run, has always had better support.
