- hbweb500, on 10/12/2007, -7/+74Whoah, guys, don't scare the girl away! These are rare on digg!
- gmarks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+66Laurie, just to get you prepared, you are soon to be the new most hated person on Digg and then you will write a blog post on how you thought you were in a forum...
- Lenin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59Google checks is still in Beta mode. Anything in beta mode is prone to some errors.
- MrBlack08, on 10/12/2007, -4/+47the check you wrote for hosting must have bounced too. 33 diggs and its down.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -24/+53Why do I get the feeling this story was made up to try to get that next adsense check bigger?
And as for laurie...
***** OR GTFO - Future2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I am not sorry for the comment abuse:
http://krynsky.com.nyud.net:8080/my-check-from-google-bounced
"I recently got my first payment from Google for running Adsense ads. I never started this site with the purpose of making money, which was pretty hard to do in 1996, but thought it would be at least nice to recoup the hosting cost so I added Google ads a while back. In a somewhat cheesy (first dollar bill moment) I decided to take a picture of the check before depositing it. Little did I know that my check drafted from multi-billion dollar valuated Google.com would come bouncing back to me. And it looks like I’m not the only one either.
I had gotten an email from the bank a few days ago about an item being held in my deposit. The deposit in question had two checks in it. One of the checks was my first payment from a company I had done some contracting for, and the second was from Google. I immediately thought that the small company had screwed me on my first payment, not even considering that the Google check was an issue. Luckily for me the Google check was very small compared to my other payment and was the item being held. I honestly started to laugh when I realized it and decided to call my bank to confirm. Sure enough the check was going to come back to me. Officially it didn’t bounce (but the headline sounds better eh?) but was actually drafted from an account that has since been closed.
So I decide to contact Google to find out what was going on. First off it was pretty hard to find a way to contact them since there are highly visible “contact us” link anywhere to be seen. I had to click on “help” and then search for the word “contact” to then find a link to a contact form. I then sent an email on 4/12 with details of my issue and got a reply 24 hours later referring to me as “Kevin” (my name is Mark) and stating that the check had cleared on 4/11 which was obviously not the case. I have since replied telling them that they may have confused me with someone else (a possible cut and paste snafu…especially if this is widespread) and asked them to look into it further and get back to me. No word yet but this is a bit entertaining and I thought I’d share." - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Looks like Google needs a payday loan.
- dime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Great comment there laurie...

Yes, I'm bored. - CourtesyFlush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14A non snark appraisal of laurie3step's post:
1. No need to declare the article dugg, we can look that up.
2. The comment itself was fine.
3. Asking for feedback is unnecessary, because these ***** are going to give it anyway.
4. Drawing attention to yourself as a noob poster is just asking for ridicule, crudeness and scorn.
5. Don't sign anything.
Blend in and nobody will remember this tomorrow. - warkro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Diggs != Page views.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oops, we spent all our money on doubleclick
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Aha, the plot thickens.
He is also karnul, but if you look at everything he's dugg, most of it is by "tvpopstar"... tvpopstar has also dugg laurie3step's stuff. It's a massive username circle jerk. I suspect there are others. - razrielle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow, we sunk his battleship
- cankillar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ ioannusdeverani
Or perhaps I've just taught her to never do that again.
Also, yell at everyone who has dugg her down for being mean. She might never recover. Mental trauma from that could ruin her social life. She could become depressed and commit suicide, all because of me. - wonderchemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unless they had used an unsigned integer in place of a signed integer.
- MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just to piss you off I'd imagine
- snowbusiness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why arent you just getting direct deposit?
- krynsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So I wake up this morning, get my coffee and sit down at the comp and notice my site is down...after a little diagnosis see that Digg is taking me down and find this...Of all the hard work on posts I've made to get on digg...this is the one that makes it...go figure. Turns out one of my wordpress plugins was causing issues so i disabled it (nice to get free load testing from digg) and things have gotten better. I especially like the comments from the following: Lenin, Mrblack08, thetaoofbill, russvirante, and berkshirefarms...funny stuff.
- catullus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Please turn me on I'm Mr. Coffee with an automatic drip.
- MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm conflicted as whether or not to digg up the Bloodhound Gang reference....
- inlove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If what he is saying were true and widespread, the forums like sitepoint and digitalpoint would be abuzz with questions and complaints from worried webmasters, since it is not the case it's safe to say that this guy is talking out of his ass.
- siszam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MacGyver2210,
It's basically the same thing. A check written on a closed account is the same as a check written from an account with zero dollars. Both mean no money and if his bank is like mine, if someone deposits a check that doesn't clear they charge the depositor a fee. A big company shouldn't write checks that don't clear. That's the point. - matdevdug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, good to see you went with the expensive hosting option. . . . .
- Notyavgkat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it appears this got buried after just 345 diggs.....wtf...is google behind this ?
- crosintoski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Raian I see Canadians are still upset about South Park.
- Capzap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it seems he clicked on his own ads...hehe
- krynsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@inlove
I thought the same and searched around for others with the problem and was surprised that I was only able to find one other person, which I reference in the post. So either this is an isolated incident, a mistake on my bank's part, or I'm the first of more that this will happen to. Who knows...we'll have to wait and see. I can assure you that speaking from my anus is a not a talent I have...although that would be cool. - raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm... just deposited my check yesterday... lets see what happens.
- krynsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@trik
The account already appears to be closed but just in case, I just modified the image to remove the detailed account information. You do however appear to be in the need for proper grammar usage at "grammar for geeks" see the link below........illiterate pinhead

- xptweakerntn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't wait until i get one of those!
Should be here around the 20th of May, of 2010! - bsmsmbaphd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The key word is "multibillion dollar valued google"
It might run out of cash, while worth a lot of money
on paper. - trik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the main issue is that google either did or will have to close their accounts cause this idiot posted google's account information over the internet, google's account number, which account is their's and their transit number, what bank at what branch is there's................... ***** moron
- jiller, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5wow the server can't even handle 150 diggs......
- cookiebearo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@warkro
i realize it's the cool thing to do to tell people "diggs != pageviews" whenever someone brings this up, but it's not like he said "wow, down after only 150 pageviews"
you are implying that the OP assumed this is the case with your statement, and s/he never said that; there is an undeniable correlation between diggs and pageviews, and while the exact level will change for each story, we can be pretty certain that a story with 1000 diggs has a lot more page views than one with 100 diggs
so i think it's fair to say "hey, their page went down at x diggs," it's still a reasonable measurement when we have thousands of examples of how long (how many diggs they get up to) other stories last for
try not to be so upset about it - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1good post)
- trashylinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, I wish $104 covered my hosting costs.
- gvsurunner22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is it just me or does anyone else think it is dumb to post a picture of a check with your name on the internet?
- samthegecko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no, i'm not going to send you any money no matter how much you lost
- MacGyver2210, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1yeah, or you can RTFA where it says the check didn't bounce but was drawn from a closed account...
- leshkin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Can somebody explain to me, why people digg this *****?
- whoucallindigga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0So, let me get this straight, you recently cashed a check written by google in 1996?
- airbball23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0lol... so true.
- ioannusdeverani, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@cankillar: What the heck is wrong with you? There is nothing wrong with signing your own posts. Does it occur to you that she might be new to digg? You want to attract people to Digg, with a welcoming gesture, not one of arrogance and anger! Just think: if no new people came to Digg, it would be dominated by mean-spirited trolls like you!

Bounced check?! How can THAT happen?
Isn't accounting just additions and subtractions?

What is Digg?
