- drtyfrnk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+108wow, finally someone realizes that myspace is "fake".
Bravo.
Thanks for the link DigiDave :) - Bigcat1021, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56"It will backfire in his face, and he will lose a ton of money."
Yet he will still be rich as *****. - afractus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60nu uhhh. those hot girls that wanna be my friend on myspace aren't fake!!!
- summerstoker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5218/f/myspace - duh! RTFA
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39@ Summer Stoker: a/s/l ?
- Falcorian, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41In other news an 18 year old girl's opinion on Middle Eastern Politics has started riots in Gaza, while Vatican and US President eagerly await her comments on Catholicism and illegal immigration before deciding on policy. *Rolleyes*
Why do reports bother getting these quotes again? I certainly don't care what some girl has to say about MySpace. - UltraNurd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32I'll stick to my elitist Facebook for all of my stalking needs, thankyouverymuch.
- Captain_Obvious, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30I'm good, how are you? ;)
- kidhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Back in the original dot com bubble, geocities and xoom etc. were all the rage. People got all excited getting an URL in the original Geocities neighborhood. Then people moved on to the next thing. Netscape was thought to be the greatest. As was AOL. But things change.
- stan205, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29Let it burn to the ground.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27MySpace is to the Internet what STDs are to humans.
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Myspace is the biggest waste of bandwith on the internet.
- HumbleDialog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20MySpace Marriage Request - mike_p would like to be added as one of your spouses!
- bowe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19[teeny bopper]
If Summer says it's not cool, it's definitely not cool. She is like so popular!
[/teeny bopper] - roguescout, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16That is exactly what it was designed for. It was supposed to be a site that independent artists could easily use to promote themselves and network.
Then the high schoolers took it over so they could easily whore themselves, network with pedos, and have the sex. - chad78, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Yeah - nobody ever goes there anymore - it's too damn crowded!
- aembleton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I use it to for listening to new tracks from some bands. Also up and coming artists contact me through myspace to advertise themselves. Its the best thing I've come across for listening to new artists.
- sceebacny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"'It got too fake,' Stoker said. 'You have all these people saying they want to be your friend. It's just a waste of time.'"
This is something I realized even before I used it. Good to know people are coming to their senses. - tuna1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Shes talking about MySpace like she was looking for a replacement from normal social interaction.
- AU542, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13but... but.. but... Tila Tequila can't be fake! Shes a rock star/model chick that had a grew up going through hard times, and dates geeks. That isn't a media-grown personality at all.
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14ever heard of email?
- ardellin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"It may be a popularity contest for some people, but for others it's truly social networking." - kaje
Exactly!
Why half the people on here feel the need to state their hatred myspace, I have no idea. If you don't like it, move on. Some of these people spend more time bashing myspace then I actually spend using it. - kaje, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Myspace is only what you make of it.
It may be a popularity contest for some people, but for others it's truly social networking.
I admit, I used to absolutely hate the sight because it's so poorly designed and has ads everywhere, but I got over it. The reason I use myspace is because most of my good friends don't live in the same town, some even in the same state as me, and it allows me to still keep in contact with them, share pictures, etc all without having to be online at the same time, or email 20 different people. - tfinniga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That's the great thing about a website targeted at a relatively immature demographic - every year there's a new crowd of people that find out about it and get hooked. No big deal if they leave after a few years, as long as there are more people to replace them.
Seems to have worked for children's television.. I used to totally dig Sesame Street, but now I don't watch it so much. My kids like it though. - burke, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15I think you misinterpreted the expression. It sort of comes from "Slow as molasses in January".
It's slow as ***** in winter
not
during winter, it's slow as *****.
Parenthesized:
Slow as (***** in winter)
get it? - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16I hate Myspace.
The only thing I use it for is to message two good friends of mine that dropped out of school. :)
Unless they are good friends then I don't add them. Why I hate it? People make crappy profiles and its slow as ***** in winter. - sneakerelph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11soon to be fiance? you're sure she'll say yes?
- 3ch0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9in Sweden we got an social networking site called 'Lunarstorm'. It has evolved from nothing to everything. With over 80% of all Swedish youth between 12-16 login on regularly. It's huge, and now the Lunarstorm is a big part in the kids social life.
(And yeah, I hate the site. It started as a good idea and today it have all the problems MySpace does exept there isn't ant good music on it) - captaindan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"All the myspace hating is largely by people who never use it"
I'll take statements of the obvious for $500, Alex. Of course they never use it. They hate it. - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Yogi Berra
- coding, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Three weeks after the last visitor to the site it will still look crowded.
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12it's a joke, genius. If *no one goes there* - how can it be *crowded*? And if it *is* crowded, then OBVIOUSLY people go there..... good night!
- loveandrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Obligatory Futurama quote (for tuna1):
Fry: "Nobody ever drove in New York City, too much traffic." - Johnny1337h4x0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Every single time I hear about a band I go to google and type in the band +myspace and voila I have 4 full high quality songs to listen to and actualy hear what the band is about. I believe myspace is one of the best ways to find bands you would otherwise never've hear of (especialy the indie ones).
- templest, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This isn't a flame, but I always found trying to make friends online a sign of insecurity or weakness.
It's easy to meet people when you have thousands of miles of wire to hide behind, innit?
I'm not saying meeting friends online is a bad thing, I have tons of eFriends, but I don't go around *looking* for
people to add to my MSN Messenger contact list. - PBoiIceBerg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Mypsace is nothing more then a fad to 99% of the people who use it. It will die when something new comes along and grabs their sort attention spans.
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"Yeah, like.... you put a piece of paper with a picture on it in here and you dial a phone number and your friend will get a different piece of paper with the same picture on it."
- plumpy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8All the myspace hating is largely by people who never use it, it seems like. I think it's great. I can meet someone at a party, say "are you on myspace?" find them the next day, and have lunch with them or something. It's less threatening than asking for a phone number. (I'm not talking about dating either, I'm just talking about for making friends.) I don't use it to find strangers online to be friends with. For me it's just a lot easier way to connect with people that you might have seen out... It would be a stretch to call everyone on my list a "friend", for sure. It's more like "people I'd like to invite next time I have a party". (And then I can post a bulletin and make it happen!)
- innerspirit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Falcorian, about...90%? of the myspace population is 14-18 year old girls, if they stop liking it then it must mean something to myspace.
- EGOvoruhk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So all of my old friends from High School are all fake?
Look, I know it's cool to hate on MySpace nowadays, but I hate how everyone always overlooks its quality features. I have found old friends on MySpace, that I never would have found otherwise. I just hit "Search" and type in their name, and there they are. Some of my old friends I already had contact with, but for those people that grew up and changed emails from stoner69@hotmail.com to firtname.lastname@gmail.com it allowed me to connect with them. MySpace also provides me with great music. I got to listen to the whole Nine Inch Nails album before it even came out. Lastly, as a friend of someone in a band, I got to see their live show crowds increase thanks to the popularity of their page
So I say knock it all you want, but you're actually missing out on a decent thing - tuna1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Same here. it would be great if they marketted it more as a Classmates.com type social network then a pre-teen dating site.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I use to hate Myspace also, but then I moved to Houston from Chicago and its a very nice way to keep in contact with my friends. Not to mention some of the bands I listen too have a Myspace which really doesnt make sense, I thought they had a website for a reason.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5NO!! you are not finished using myspace, go back and leave the rest of the internets alone.
- benhiler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6good call but right now its working
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Bad to know that people are JUST now coming to their senses. I did meet my soon-to-be fiance on there though (not looking for love), so I can't really knock it... and yes, i'm serious!
- bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You're kidding yourself if you think Murdoch bought MySpace for any other reason than the contact info and demographics of those millions of teenagers. That age range is the hardest to market to and hook.
- cfazzini, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Uh, you should check out http://www.purevolume.com Same thing, but better. Actually it's not the same thing. It's just music, no "social networking"
- nesagwa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6And as if there isnt a huge DENY button on those creepy friend requests from strangers.
- jpfinch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The genital warts of the internet - to be sure
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Your'e probably a guy who doesn't have friends in real life that use My Space, where I live, I have known many
friends in bars, clubs and parties, and I've never seen them again, but thanks to My Space I know these folks are still alive and i can see what they are listening now, and what kind of people they know. I love to say it and I see that social networking it's going to be the future way to be part of a community, so plz if you have not seen real people in My Space is because you don't have friends in your life outside the net. -
