- stevesearer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+63.....and suddenly half of the United States has nothing to do today.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+56 This would be a huge oppertune moment for them to delete all of those crappy banner infested, animated, song playing, Pop princess, rim spinning, bling ridden myspace pages...
- M2Ys4U, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53Ahh, turns out it's a power outage in LA that's caused some of their servers to go bork bork.
- kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -7/+54Oh no. Not Tom!
- bobbyd87, on 10/12/2007, -6/+49so did toms
http://www.myspace.com/tom - neverender, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34Latest Update: 08:59AM PST, Friday, July 28th.
hiya - your accounts are not deleted. we're just moving some databases around to a new data center. we're workin on things right now.
And thats in my inbox from Tom. - darkvam, on 10/12/2007, -9/+36myspace is *****
- sharding, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31It's truly amazing how poorly MySpace seems to be engineered. A power outage in one data center (or even one city) shouldn't take out parts of the site. And if something *does* take out part of the site, the error handling should be a lot better than making it appear as if the accounts have been deleted.
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -4/+19Another one?
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Somehow I think that if Google had bought Myspace, we wouldn't have this problem.
:/ - M2Ys4U, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22There's been a power outage in LA that's responsible
- ekeup, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Some guy's blog says myspace "might" have deleted his account and you believe that?
HAHA, it's called an outage... when it comes back up, what do you want to bet your accounts are still there. - drinkGreen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15what's even more amazing, is that Myspace and its technology was bought for 580mil
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18myspace is deleted? please dont tease me like this.
- disrupter, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Myspace should delete itself
- buba447, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17"This would be a huge oppertune moment for them to delete all of those crappy banner infested, animated, song playing, Pop princess, rim spinning, bling ridden myspace pages.."
But then there wouldn't be anything left. How could they make money off their racey, annoying ads then? - UriMcFlurry, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13For a huge website owned by Fox, you would think they would get their ***** together.
- ekeup, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Our's too? Um, you posted this article, so are you talking to yourself?
- J6stik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You're all wrong about why accounts were deleted. It wasn't because of moving servers, or power outages, or hackers. It's because all those people didn't repost the bulleting that said "REP0ST THiS OR UR ACNT WiLL G3T DELTETED, SRSLY. ~FROM TOM"
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -8/+14How can a site as big as that not have backup systems all over the world? Key is, get your ***** outta LA!
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14I see someone has been watching Dateline WAY too much.
MySpace is a whole hell of a lot more than rapists and pedophiles. I have personally reunited with at least 20 childhood friends and family through that damn website.
The thing is, if you really want to be bothered by those kinds of people your profile will scream for their kind of attention, ie. naked pictures of your 13 year old daughter with your toothbrush in her pussy, your 17 year old son with a video stroking himself to completion, and the biggest problem of all, talking to people you don't know.
All avoidable problems. Don't blame the website, blame the kids that welcome them as friends. - wfbnadador, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Sadly I have never seen a site built in Coldfusion (thus the .cfm ending on every page) that wasn't absoultely sluggish and crash prone, perhaps this was due to an outage, and maybe there are better ways to code Coldfusion, but I have yet to find a good example.
- aftk2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I tried to read the article, but all I got was:
Error establishing a database connection
OMGNO! SOME1 DELETED HIS BLOGG! - gooddoggytreat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10All accounted are 'deleted', so I guess the power outage is responsible for another data-center shutdown. Heh, even Tom has his account deleted! (yay)
- tkambler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've just about had it with MySpace. They seriously need to get their crap together... It seems like one out of every five clicks there gives you an error.
- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't get it, who the hell is Tom?
- whackaxe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Myspace is the Internet's toilet. its needs flushing sometimes
Rupert's going to be pissed - pheonix1974, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How is this inaccurate? The message was very accurate. It was from Tom!
- punkrockxtian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://aycu02.webshots.com/image/2681/1036454030728543677_fs.jpg
- enola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"This would be a huge oppertune moment for them to delete all of those crappy banner infested, animated, song playing, Pop princess, rim spinning, bling ridden myspace pages..."
So, you mean all of them? - tom22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Myspace isn't just coldfusion, it's a hideous cocktail of coldfusion and ASP.net. As you move around the site the extension often changes depending on what you are doing, for example I think image uploads are handled by ASP. A mess indeed.
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -9/+12Yeah, but shouldn't they announce stuff like that? How can this happen when they're backed by a billion dollar company?
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks like mine is gone too but that's ok myspace blows. It was worth losing just for the laugh I got from knowing that's all of those myspace addicts are going to be so pissed.
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2This wasn't innacurate. MySpace reported the errors as deletions, therefore MySpace was innacurate.
- fireport, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8dont worry folks myspace narrowed it down to a bad database query :
$result=mysql_query("delete * from users where type='EMO' "); - tj_walker_dvt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Or at least SOME *nix variant. It is a shame, MySpace has such a great idea but the inability to actually do what they want to do.
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -17/+19Hopefully they're deleting all the emo people.
- Ryn2o01, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9MySpace does suck when it comes to the site staying up and running. You would think after being bought out they would have gotten a little bit better over time.
But I do give it credit for giving people the chance to get in touch with people you've lost track of, over the years. - drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2digg, why did you bury this post? it is VERY accurate, and merely reported from myspace errors.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn.
- mendezbeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OK, has anyone had the same problem I have? my site at first said it had been deleted and now it's back up except I can't log in. It says my password or email is incorrect so i've sent 2 "forgot my password" requests and nothing, no email, nothing. I really can't believe they would just decide to move their servers all of a sudden without giving any prior notice. How hard would it have been for them to just send out an email to their users? yes i do realize they have over 90 million, but come on, they also make over $90 million in advertising.
- pheonix1974, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2But the message actually said the accounts were deleted.
- LucianSolaris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@samdu: Funny, you just described Windows!
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2My site is down because of the digg load, but I'm writing a post tonight following up, talking about how social networks affect our daily lives. MySpace was way late in updating us on this, and I think that they don't value us as users if they don't have an array of servers handling this stuff. Power outages or not, there's no excuse to pull the plug on 95 million users with no warning or fast response.
- dandyhighwayman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One way to keep your account from being deleted:
http://www.marilyncarolyn.com/2006/07/myspace-wants-yourcash.html - THEMACGOD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It did mine... says the account was cancelled or deleted. I sent them an email... it was working fine last night.
- jkendel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Why are you burying jtkooch comments? He is right, a site with millions of users should have sent out a warning before "moving databases". Hell I send out notices to employees when I move their patch cables to a different network port. It saves my ass from people saying its broken, much like this situation. I think something is fishy here too, it just isn't a proper way of doing maintenance.
- sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Yeah, you would expect far more from those that canceled Firefly. (Rolls eyes)
- Webwonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The power outage was the second major one in less than a year at MySpace's data center. See more details here:
http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2006/07/25/myspace_outage_pinpointed_at_la_telecom_building.html
They have two LA data centers. It sounds like they've decided twice is enough and are relocating stuff to the new site at Equinix. - scottmoss, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Mine is gone also... oh ***** I never had one. Wooooo lucky me.
