MySpace Gets Goatse'd!
ascii.textfiles.com — Jason Scott discovers that MySpace users are hotlinking an image on his site. And not just a few -- this image is being requested over 400,000 times per month. He decides to use the best known method to stop bandwidth leechers: goatse. In two days, he goatse'd over 25,000 people. Hilarious.
- 6599 diggs
- digg it
- Flanker, on 10/15/2007, -6/+273Link contains some words describing the goatse image, but not the image itself. Decide for yourself whether that's safe where you work.
- axel2k, on 10/12/2007, -455/+30Guys, I just have to say it. Everyone refers to the image as Goatse, but the URL was goatse.cx; the image should be called something close to "goatsex." At least, that was the original intention.
That is all. - jwyles, on 10/12/2007, -11/+120A simple .htaccess rule could handle his problems (although it wouldn't have been as near as sweet):
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^http://www.your-domain-name-here.com/" locally_linked=1
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^http://www.your-domain-name-here.com$" locally_linked=1
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^http://your-domain-name-here.com/" locally_linked=1
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^http://your-domain-name-here.com$" locally_linked=1
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^$" locally_linked=1
Order Allow,Deny
Allow from env=locally_linked - jwyles, on 10/12/2007, -6/+68Damn you digg! htmlspecialchars(), cmon, its not that hard. Anyhow:
<FilesMatch ".(gif|png|jpe?g)$">
Order Allow,Deny
Allow from env=locally_linked
</FilesMatch> - axel2k, on 10/12/2007, -279/+22Wait, let me get this straight. I point out that it is technically "goat sex," and CHENEYTHEDICK posts a link to the wikipedia entry in response that CONFIRMS what I just said and, somehow, he gets dugg and I am dugg down? Hahahaha, the irony.
- msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+98I don't know all of you, but I'd seriously consider paying for the bandwidth just to make goatse.cx show up on 25k people's pages. Limiting it to local references only would ruin my fun.
- deusx, on 11/11/2007, -2/+48jwyles: "A simple .htaccess rule could handle his problems"
I'm pretty sure Mr. Scott knows his way around some .htaccess rules. This wasn't just sweet, this was a hard knocks lesson for the rest of the MySpace world. It was educational! :) Maybe in the future this sort of thing will make others thing twice about creating the need for someone to implement .htaccess rules like these. - Malakin, on 11/11/2007, -2/+616The Goatse image might actually improve most of the MySpace pages out there.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -58/+12Not for the faint of heart but this is the image file hosted by txtfiles being shown on all those myspace pages.

"Everyone refers to the image as Goatse, but the URL was goatse.cx"
The reason that Cheneythedick was dugg up was because he was simply pointing out a reference. You on the other hand were correcting everyone for calling it "Goatse" when everyone refers to it like that and there is no reason to call it anything different at this point. - badfrog, on 10/12/2007, -10/+41I goatse'd some myspace clown a few months ago when I caught him hotlinking an image.
And it was the background for his whole page. I giggled a lot. I just didn't digg it! - flyryan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+67@ Axel2k
GOATSE - Guy Opens Ass to Shock (or Show) Everyone
I think goatse really fits the bill here...... - EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -61/+18DIG THIS DOWN
- OutrightLie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26Screw getting to frontpage of Digg. I have a new goal:
Create an image so popular that it gets hotlinked and then I can shock the world by replacing the image with something completely obscene.
How many people can say they have done that?! - yonnermark, on 10/12/2007, -21/+8taken from this guy's homepage...
"Jason Scott is an arrogant, self-impressed idiot who thinks he's god's gift to techies because he remembers "the golden days" of BBS's. I met him at my first (and last) slashdot "meetup"; he dominated the conversation amongst a table of eight, spending hours talking about his favorite subject: himself."
This is the worst kind of person on the planet.
I hope that other guy finds him and throws a brick through his window. - Archon810, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Referring to Malakin's comment: and now who dares say that digg shouldn't be in google because it doesn't add any value to the original article? I'm asking you, WHO!?

- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -165/+48Sorry I'm hijacking this thread:
I understand you wanted to teach this person a lesson but there is little kids who browse myspace. It really isn't right to subject them to a goatse. A simple "Don't hotlink" in an image would have been fine, or be creative and sell an ad adjacent to the image (embedded in the image) and make some money off of all those views.
No reason to be a dick when it is underage kids who really don't need to see that. Like a lot of people on here said they didn't learn their lesson with this, they just got shown a gaping *****. How about being the better person and educating them a little bit with a "Don't hotlink" in the image. Then they would go google it and learn more. - Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -20/+154> No reason to be a dick when it is underage kids who really don't need to see that.
Sometimes the only reason you need, is that it's FUN to be a dick once in a while, *specifically* when it's not serious OR permanent. Everyone has a good laugh or cry over the image and life goes on.
I agree that somewhere, at some point, a young kid saw this and quickly clicked away. But similar things happened to you and me and we both turned out OK. - snlildude87, on 10/12/2007, -4/+60NiGHTSChao, you know what would hurt more? If someone started a site that provided images and stuff for people to put on your myspace. After a couple of months, change the images to goatse or tubgirl. Myspace would be no more.
- upsidedork, on 10/12/2007, -19/+87How are kids harmed by seeing Goatse? It's gross, sure, but what actual damage does it cause to them? I'm just curious.
And why aren't adults harmed by seeing it? And at what age does it switch from being harmful to not-harmful? - GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -7/+190Any parent who lets their kids roam around MySpace has already failed. He's just accelerating their descent.
- ThndrShk2k, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28>How are kids harmed by seeing Goatse? It's gross, sure, but what actual damage does it cause to them? I'm just curious.
It doesn't. I saw it when I was 14, first thing I did? Laugh. Only because I was linked to the same link as my friend at the same time and found his reaction to be hilarious. - Intrepion, on 10/12/2007, -7/+166I'm 23 and I saw it for the first time today... I'm scarred for life. :'-(
- javageek, on 10/12/2007, -24/+11@Magnus
"I first saw goatse when I was 12, It didn't scar me for life, I got over it and am now able to see things on the internet that don't really freak me out anymore"
Well, if now you're able to see things on the Internet that don't freak you anymore, then maybe Goatse did scar you, if only by raising the bar of what you think is distasteful/shocking. - Pile, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Being nice doesn't help that much when people are taking advantage of you. That's like the first rule of not getting screwed over. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. People exploit others because of convenience. If doing so causes them grief, they're much more likely to stop than if someone politely asks, in which case they won't steal your image, but instead someone elses... at best.
- wolfboy759, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23>>How about being the better person and educating them a little bit with a "Don't hotlink" in the image.
Oh, but he did. In the most disturbing way possible.
And honestly, how many myspace kids use the internet to educate themselves... - royall64, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Everyone is a dick once in a while.
- dvsbastard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Cram it hippie! Nothing says "harsh punishment" like goatse! Lesson learned! :P
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20We must be the most desensitized generation ever. Awesome. =)
- MrEguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Good lord, that goatse image defies description. Deep... very deep.
Maybe Jimmy Hoffa's in there somewhere, having cocktails with Amelia Earhart and Judge Crater? - Vlatro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4I understand many children frequent MySpace. That fact is more disturbing than Goatse. The Internet is more than a communications platform. It has a culture and etiquette of it's own. Moreover it's a vital tool these days, for success is school, the workplace and life in general. Children are learning the rules of what's socially acceptable in an online community made up of horny old men looking for lude pictures of 35 Year old divorced bar skanks, and manic-depressive idiot teens who lack the sense or commitment to take their own life (though they may talk about it at long length).
If you have a child who browses MySpace... Kill them. You've made a terrible mistake bringing them into the world, and society as a whole should not have to pay for that mistake. Just stuff them in a burlap sack with a few bricks and drop them in a river. No law enforcement agency would begrudge you. You've taken a future scumbag off the streets and in so doing have saved them a lot of work.
If everyone chipped in and did their part, we would no longer need goatse, the coroner's photos of all those dead MySpace kids would be much more effective.

- EdgeTX, on 10/12/2007, -16/+62Dude, I hack 127.0.0.1 all the time. I found all kinds of pr0n on that machine and a bunch of DIVX. Although 127.0.3.43 had a bunch more to offer. LoLz
- MichelangeloPM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39Forgive my ignorance... but what's special about 127.0.3.43?
- Poltras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57127.x.y.z is reserved for local use (in case you'd want to put a full network of loopback NIC). Therefore everything on 127.*.*.* is local (although not configured by default... you'd have to create a loopback interface with an address before you ping it). Hope this helped
- Germophobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14@MichaelangeloPM:

All true, except that on Windows (the OS of choice for script kiddies likely to fall for this) all of the 127 addresses are set up by default...

- MichelangeloPM, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Ok, sometimes I just need to slap myself. I knew 127.x.x.x is 'loopback', but just for the kicks I tried to open 127.0.3.43 in firefox and got 403.1 forbidden execution, so I thought there was something special or undocumented about it that I didn't know about. After I finally woke up I found out that the ISA server proxy is playing games with my mind. I hate that thing more and more everyday. Stupid net admin.

people who hotlink like that deserve what they get when someone replaces the image with a gaping *****!- r00ts, on 10/12/2007, -7/+168You managed to explain all of that to a 14 year old kid with black fingernails who constantly writes dark poems about how horrible the world is and sits in a dark corner cutting himself all night?

- archerx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12I'm tempted to do the samething because on friendster a bunch of kids from the phillepines are leach some of my art work from my site to use as their backgrounds, but I don't really want to be bad to peope who like my art.....
- Panhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I had a Similar issue at one time,
I simply changed the file names once in a while, or moved them to a different Dir. and updated the html on my site.
However in a case like this one, where a group of users are eating so much bandwidth goatse is the best bet! - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28You can always just set up referer checking, and replace hotlinked images with an image that says "I'm glad you like my art, but please don't hotlink images from my server."
- Dracos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Years ago I had a problem with a guy leeching my CSS (basically the entire site design). I didn't change anything, I just put a nice "screw you" image on the server and made an .htaccess file to check the referer on all my css and images. If the request came from his site, the "screw you" image got served instead. He stopped doing it after his entire site "broke".
- KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"I don't really want to be bad to peope who like my art....."
But aren't they doing bad things to you? What goes around comes around... - archerx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"But aren't they doing bad things to you? What goes around comes around..."
I've got a terrabyte of monthly bandwidth and they're taking less than 1% of it :p I'm going to redesign my site soon so all the directory systems will change thus solving the problem.... for a while. - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15@KSUdesigner
A lot of them probably don't realize that what they are doing is wrong. Like archerx said, they're fans of his artwork, and it would kind of suck to do that to fans. The best bet would probably be merreborn's suggestion. An image asking them to not hotlink the images would likely be a lot better in the long run than messing with them for something they didn't realize is wrong.
That said, if they still keep up with hotlinking after it has been explained, I suggest that all bets are off. - potentato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12You could turn it into a promotional opportunity - make hotlinked images show your url in the image.
- Xyber411, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2is there a way to make a google adsense block outa it? ching ching$$$$$
- garyh84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Xyber411, not without getting kicked out of Adsense for violating their TOS.
- ckedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lots of us simply use humourous images with sarcastic comments. I can't find it right now, but the best one I ever saw had some 70's pop star in a tarzan outfit with a sports headband, a supprised shocked look on his face - and the text "you linked to my server. HOW DARE YOU!!".
I often just put in images that have black backgrounds and text explaining that the linker is a bandwidth thief, and that "my home computer is not your personal webserver" (I have dsl and run a webserver there).
Now here is a great idea I never thought of before. Replace the image with an advertisement for your own site! http://www.masterdiz.com/web01/ratas4.htm That'd be an extra good idea if you have some revenue generating advertising.

Goatse is nothing compared to what they could have done. Goatse isn't really even worth flinching over these days. He could have made it shorter and sweeter instead of bitching for as long as he did.

- MadMan52, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Alright I'm going to take a guess that you're a 13 year old who uses myspace almost daily. Guess what ***** if you thought it was to long don't ***** read it. Hotlinking can be a pain in the ass for servers and what right do these little prats on myspace have that lets them hotlink images on a site for as he said it "decoration". Go goatse yourself and maybe that will open it wide enough to let you remove that 4x4 piece of plywood you have shoved up there.
- davidadam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59Perno, I'm sorry I didn't tell you, but me and some buddies have been borrowing your car for the past several months while you were asleep. - Perno, on 10/12/2007, -120/+4Funny as it sounds, I'm 27 years old, and I've had worse images than the "goatse'd" image on my profile put there by one of my friends. If I'm a loser for being on MySpace, then so be it.
@ Madman :
"These little prats" have just as much right as anyone else on the Internet. It's on the Internet, so it's public domain. I know all about bandwidth and hotlinking, thanks anyways. I'm not even reading your replies anymore, and I'm still digging you down. Just stop. You're done. You're a *****. The Digg community knows that now. Stop proving it over and over and over again.

"If I'm a loser for being on MySpace, then so be it."
Thanks for admitting it. I think we're done here. - Strangers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15"It's on the Internet, so it's public domain."
Right... - Perno, on 10/12/2007, -71/+2@ MadMan52
Yet you keep coming back to check to see if I wrote anything else. You have to admit this is entertaining. I wish I wasn't at work so I could get a little more involved.
Oh, and I agree it was an entertaining write up, that's why I dugg it. Just having some fun, expressing my opinion, which is what the "comment" section is for MadMan, you enabler, you! ;) - stretch611, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Calm down everyone, give perno a break. He is just mad because he doesn't like the publicity. After all, he is the one that posed for the goatse image.
- Perno, on 10/12/2007, -51/+1@ stretch611
Imagine the ***** I can take! - qber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"It's on the Internet, so it's public domain."
There's a difference between saving a copy of someone else's image to use on your site and directly linking to it, using up bandwidth that he's paying for. - glock22ownr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Perno :
You must be one of those idiot users ( passengers ) that he speaks of in the article... 223 people think you're a douche so far... stop responding... - SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Dude.. just quit now. Obviously Digg hates you and everything you say, so just quit. You'd think -250 diggs on your comments would be some sort of clue.
- lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4its not legally public domain. and a much different type of legal than piracy. this is a place where the feds dare not interfere. the internet is owned by anyone who can use it to their advantage. if a guy has the power to do something like this, more power to him. especially if they do it again. i mean really. if somebody put an exe that changed your screensaver to goatse, put it under a setup file for photoshop, put it on the internetz for people to come and say "hay im gonna dl teh PS from the warez sites!!11 zomg i hax" id say the same thing. they deserve it and whatever comes from it.
- lostradamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Haha oh man Perno chose the wrong day to start a digg war.

- pirotess, on 10/12/2007, -38/+2Hotlinkers fail. It would've been better if the file was changed to some music produced by the RIAA so they'll all get sued.
- brendandonhue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31Yeah, because putting an audio file in an tag works.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7And even if it did, wouldn't his name be the first on the list when the lawsuits went out?
- phorbidden, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10.htaccess people
- iamnos, on 10/12/2007, -27/+0Kinda tough to do on myspace. Besides, you're better off with the directives in httpd.conf than in .htaccess.
- brendandonhue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@iamnos - the .htaccess file goes on the server they're hotlinking from, not MySpace. And there is no reason that httpd.conf would work better than .htaccess.
- SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7In reference to iamnos, among many other buried comments on this page:
God where are you noobs coming from these days? Someone opened the floodgates and now we're awash in the dirty masses.

It was pretty humorous. In fact I would be happy to have a few thousand hotlinked images, just so I could have them be suddenly replaced by something offensive!
- bills534, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3when are they gonna come out with software that looks at a picture before displaying it and checks it against a record of "unsafe" images and if it matches up then it blocks it. I dont know about you but i could easily go through life without seeing tubgirl, lemonparty or goatse again.
- Eleo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Something like that would probably severely slow down your browsing experience.
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37hotlinking without permission should always be punished by goatse.
I would love to see the look on some parent's face when they walk in and see that on their kids myspace account.- SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I can't imagine their reaction would be much different. If parents knew the provocative photos and other crap their kids put up on myspace right NOW they'd freak.
- mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3This is classic. It must go on thedailywtf.com.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+251) It's not related to programming
2) It's been done hundreds of times in the last decade. We've seen it. - mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I am talking about the web design company which hotlinked the images and then complained to the guy to "take off" the "hardcore porn"........
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+251) It's not related to programming
- shankrabbit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23You link... you take the risk. The company that did those templates took the risk and got severely burned.
Simply wonderful. - donotdigg, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Urge to click, rising.....
- MYarms, on 10/12/2007, -48/+3Come on who cares who hotlinks what? Everybody steals everyone else's ***** these days anyways. Instead of goatse'ing it he could have just taken the image down.
- omniomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It teaches them a lesson in an amusing way. If the images were of any considerable size it would be a huge bandwidth drain. Especially with ~400,000 people looking at it every month.
- jivemasta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29I don't think the problem is them using his content. It was that they just linked to it. The template makers could have just as easily saved the image and then put it on one of thier servers, but they decided to just link to it, making the guy that hosts the image pay for thier bandwidth usage.
If sombody ran a cord into your house and plugged a lamp into it to light their house, you might be a little pissed, but you wouldn't notice it on your bill. Now if everybody in the city plugged a lamp into your house, you would be really pissed and your electric bill would be huge. Now if you could some how find a way to stop all of them from using your light by overpowering the bulb and blinding them for a minute or two, wouldn't you? - shark615, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Perhaps he should forward you the hosting bill. After you pay that baby for a few months you will change your mind.
- NetJoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They were ripping him off and reselling the product. He pays the bandwidth charge for the image, they collect the advertising revenue. a bit of pain by having that product changed into a gaping ass seems perfectly fitting.
- hooksie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5MYarms, I stole your car. But no worries, everyone steals nowadays, so its ok.
Right? - quisph, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1@jivemasta
Your analogy is wide of the mark. No one is saying that he shouldn't have put a stop to the hotlinking. Of course he should have. But let's be honest -- he didn't do it in order to "educate" the hotlinkers, or any of the other noble intentions that other people here are claiming for him. He didn't even do it to save his own bandwidth/money. He admits -- no, he GLOATS -- that he did it to cause people distress and to waste their time. People who had no bad intentions whatsoever, whose only crime was ignorance.
Let's stop pretending that what he did was necessary, well-intentioned, or commensurate with what the hotlinkers did to him. It was a prank, plain and simple. It has merit on that level, but on that level alone.
- omniomi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I say power to him, hot linking images without permission is just wrong. Some people have absolutely no concept of bandwidth, and chances are if these people had not hot linked the image they would have given no credit to the artist anyway, so I say, they got what they deserved.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8This is comedy gold

Whats wrong, Geocities was too complicated?- jivemasta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12MySpace makes geocities look acceptable. At least you had to know a little html to make something.
- WetSplatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Way back in the day before DRM on music Geocities was THE hotspot for filesharing :)
- qber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, Geocities was too complicated. You actually have to know HTML.
- punchingjudy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I wish /I/ had the opportunity to make 25,000 people unexpectedly see Goatse. ... it would be GLORIOUS.

- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+83It's one thing to goatse, but much more fun to get creative with your own image. My roommate had a band on MySpace using one of her landscape photos, so she replaced it with many sexy David Hasselhof pictures instead. It was a while before the band realized that everyone thought they were some kind of campy gay act instead of a stoner rock band...

- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24you don't say?
I can't imagine actually expecting SFW images in a thread about Goatse - SuckMyDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@KimmoA
Um, because that's what ImageShack is FOR? What the hell would you expect from an imagehost? - KimmoA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SuckMyDigg: I would expect them to only allow links to the pages filled with ads that show the image in the centre, of course.
- nycjap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The sad thing is, that most of these people will never realize how stupid they are.
His airplane analogy is right on. We truly have come to the monkeys in a room typing randomly. Occasionally, they hit Shakespeare, simply from sheer random luck, but essentially, it's idiotic, wasted motion, with no true intent or understanding. What passes for creativity these days is truly appalling. - flysi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sweet.
Although, I'm sure there's some irony in the fact that now his site is slammed from all the digg traffic... - EvilBadger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well hot linking his images increased his bill. I am sure being on the front page of digg just destroyed it.
I find the e-mail he received the best part. Had me literally on the floor laughing.
Nice to see the people creating content for Myspace are as stupid as the people using Myspace.
Quite Humorous all around.- msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a big difference though....hotlinking gives him nothing, no ad revenue, no publicity, no recognition. Recieving the digg effect linked directly to his site, which I'm sure many people bookmarked.
I'd pay for the digg effect to get the massive amounts traffic. Google also links to digg, so popular ones like this digg submission will still generate traffic even after they aren't on the digg frontpage.

400,000 surfers * 60,000 bytes = 22.35 gigabytes. Quite a dent if you don't have a nice sized hosting plan. - Petronski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The (real) image is beautifully rendered. No wonder it was so widely stolen.
- TheHolyLancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow no wonder people wanted it, its great, even to someone who is not into the goth stuff.....

-------
The first link in the article is to a "previous entry" the author made back in Sept. when he discovered the massive hotlinking of the image.
The 3rd comment to that "previous entry" is:
"Well, that's very kind of you to allow that, and not goatse them.
Posted by: Ryan Russell at September 9, 2006 06:37 PM" - UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20This is great. I hope some of the isiots were trying to take credit for the picture so it would be:
This is some of my artwork
((Picture of goatse underneath)) - larsenm5, on 10/12/2007, -33/+4erm, i can see why you would want to get your own back, but this is quite over-the-top. To be honest wouldn't it be easier, faster and cheaper (because you still had to pay for the bw on the new image) just to block them? Also did you have to make such a fuss over it? There was a lot of anger and arrogance in that page, and tbh I dont think most people care if you changed the image. All that will happen now is they will change it and probably never use one of your images again.
- WetSplatter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16people dont learn unless you make them. The more pain and embarassment the more real the lesson.
- aposter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@larsenm5
Which would be more likely to disuade you from writing bad checks? (like anybody uses checks anymore. ;) )
1. A $25 fine.
2. A cellmate named Bubba who thinks you have a "purdy mowfh". - luma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Maybe you misread the post, but getting people to not use his images ever again was kinda the point.
- Hypermarkalan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You must not pay for server space. If so, I think you'd change your tune a little bit. If the dumb little emo-fools had simply saved the image locally and hosted it themselves the guy would have never known.

- Lemming882, on 10/12/2007, -25/+3Hotlinking is bad don't get me wrong. But there is a lot of younger crowd(14-) that is on Myspace that probably have seen this picture. That doesn't seem wrong to any of you?
- gommle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Nope. I'm 15, and goatse is nothing compared to other pictures. He could have used an image in the pain.jpg series or lotus boobs or something. *Creeps out just thinking about them*
I'd blame Myspace, not the one hosting the file. - Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Perhaps. But its the fault of the owners of the myspace sites if this occurs, for hotlinking to dynamic content they have no control over.
I suppose its kind of like owning a store, but putting a poster up in your store window that someone else can alter - someone you don't know, and probably doesn't like what you're doing. The inevitable happens but in the end its YOUR shop window thats displaying the junk. - JCGV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hell no, the first time I got goatse'd was when I was 12. That day I learned a valuable lesson, never click on a link when your mother is standing behide you. I'm far more concerned of the effects of 50 cents on youth then goatse. If your bad irl you get punched, if your bad online you get goatse'd.
