- brooklynzoo, on 01/24/2008, -0/+27why would anyone name their kid window?
- ahuxley, on 01/24/2008, -4/+3She worked for MS.
That does not wash out.- fkr3, on 01/24/2008, -3/+3I would guess a significant portion of the (actual) tech industry has worked for MS either directly or contracting at some point of their careers.
- TheSabre, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5I bet he was a "pane" in the ass when he was a kid.
- god613, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Valiant effort but HE is a SHE.
- TheSabre, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1....Now.
- god613, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0Valiant effort but HE is a SHE.
- baronvonrolo, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5This story has actually been disputed by Mr. Snyder's brother. Lamp Synder.
- astrotrain, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1Windows mother at the time was trying to warning her boyfriend at the time (Snyder, who would later to become her husband) while making love, that her father was about to kick Snyder's ass through the window.... "Window!.... Window!...Window.. Snyder!!!"
The name stuck, and thats how Window Snyder got his name.
- notjustmii, on 01/24/2008, -11/+9Everything is vulnerable at some point. Even the best of products have problems.
- Barbosa, on 01/24/2008, -1/+7Need a patch now, I can't see using anything else than FF at this point!
- dkoon, on 01/24/2008, -8/+9Blasphemy! According to Digg, Firefox is invulnerable! You Microsoft shill, stop spreading FUD!!
- chris9902, on 01/24/2008, -6/+17oh what a load of *****. If this was Microsoft you'd be "***** Micro$oft suck wah wah wah".
- hazelnoot, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3But there is software without flaws !

- doublehead, on 01/24/2008, -7/+77its still better than IE
- JustonMD, on 01/24/2008, -8/+0I disagree. I used Firefox for a while and had a number of problems with it. Pages wouldn't load correctly, areas to type in would be tiny and you couldn't see what you wrote after just one word, flash video wouldn't work half the time. So many problems that I had to switch back to IE. I think most programmers write their pages for IE and don't bother to see what they look like with Firefox.
- astrotrain, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3Number of pages won't load: IE Tab
Areas to type in: Adjust fonts, decrease monitor resolution, get new Firefox Theme.

- xsquirrel378x, on 01/24/2008, -20/+3you guys should switch to opera
/sarc. opera's for fags- astrotrain, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I used Opera for a few years... found Firefox.... If you don't want Firefox, at least go for Opera.... Between the two, you are safer then IE.... simply put.
- technoredneck, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2So, that must explain my fondness for it.
- Ndiggnation, on 01/24/2008, -0/+23Window? You'd think Microsoft might be a little less conspicuous with corporate espionage. :)
- GiggleStick, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3You think they're trying to get their hands on the source-code?
- god613, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2That will never happen, Mozilla keeps that ***** on lock down.
- Thisistooboring, on 01/27/2008, -0/+1I'm sure that's exactly what they're trying to do... Why simply download the freely available source code when they could pay a spy to infiltrate an organization.
- diggrim, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2at least his name isn't mole...*in best Austin Powers voice* moley, moley, moley!
- GiggleStick, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3You think they're trying to get their hands on the source-code?

- azizzii, on 01/24/2008, -2/+7no worries, it will be overcome...... after all firefox is a really good product.... i don't see me on internet without it.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/24/2008, -1/+5Download Statusbar, mentioned in the article has already updated to patch the vulnerability.
A blanket patch will likely be released by Mozilla soon.

- majesticreality, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3all i could think about when reading this was "holy *****, zdnet is still around." probably because reading that a web browser might have a security risk is about as surprising as reading that fox news is not reporting real news.
- daxsymbiont, on 01/24/2008, -5/+1open source is as good as its maintainers.
i just had this idiot that had a problem for "forking" his app.
bitch. if you don't like gpl close source it or something. - beefchi, on 01/24/2008, -7/+1i still like my firefox with fasterfox. it's a sexy ass browser
- bizmowacka, on 01/24/2008, -1/+2read that wrong there for a sec.. thought you said taserfox
got me all worked up - Baku, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Indeedy - though Fasterfox generally isn't good for webserver loads.

- spanglegluppet, on 01/24/2008, -2/+2Dugg for Window.
- Zecchetti, on 01/24/2008, -1/+4Ironic that his name be Window!
- rikwakefield, on 01/24/2008, -4/+3Please look up the meaning of the word ironic.
- kss42, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8All right. From Dictionary.com:
ironic /aɪˈrɒnɪk/ adj. -
1. containing or exemplifying irony (Well, that gets us nowhere.)
2. ironical (Come on, Dictionary.com. Seriously? Ironic means ironical? Moving on...)
3. coincidental; unexpected (Ah, here we are.)
It is coincidental that Mr. Snyder's name is so similar to that of a product which is all but synonymous with Mozilla's primary competitor in the browser market. It is unexpected that anyone's name should be Window. And it is an unexpected coincidence that someone named Window is in charge of the department which has been one of Mozilla's strongest selling points against the aforementioned competitor. I conclude that the word "ironic" was quite apt in its usage here. Do you still disagree?- fkr3, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Also ironic that he is a she....
http://static.flickr.com/25/58200550_68fff10c6d_m. ... - DarkJesus, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1People need to learn how to use that word.
- fkr3, on 01/24/2008, -1/+3Also ironic that he is a she....
- kss42, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8All right. From Dictionary.com:
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/24/2008, -0/+5Yes another of Window's vulnerabilities.
- comrade693, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1s/his/her/
Window is a female...
- rikwakefield, on 01/24/2008, -4/+3Please look up the meaning of the word ironic.
- spyd3rweb, on 01/24/2008, -1/+51 Flaw... well thats certainly big news.
- ScottDaMan, on 01/24/2008, -0/+3That's one ugly pic. Shoulda went with FF logo.
- raptordrew, on 01/24/2008, -2/+4God, I hate you freaking people - one mention of a flaw in anything MS, and you get all high and mighty about how "Firefox is better" or "I hate Microsoft," but if anything is said about your precious program, you immediately defend it "well, not everything is perfect" "I don't mind, just patch it"
You people are sad.- FKnight, on 01/24/2008, -2/+3They're not sad. They're just 12. They can't help it.
- Ukonu, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1I think that issue is especially funny with the fact that the thumbnailed image is of some random guy just grinning at you like: "Firefox has a new, unpatched vulnerability! Have a nice day!" And everyone is cool with it...
- TrinitronX, on 01/28/2008, -0/+1At least it'll get patched ASAP due to the nature of open source, rather than having to wait for a "Patch Tuesday". This is the process that made linux so secure, and we're seeing it in action. Vulnerabilities are found all the time, and sometimes the finder even posts a patch.
- ufia, on 01/24/2008, -3/+1MY MEGAHURTZ HAEV BEEN STOELED!!!!!111
- Thisistooboring, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1And it's times like this that I don't regret the fact that Windows is installed on my E: drive. Sloppily programmed install scripts are annoying, however.
- Thisistooboring, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1On second thought it looks like it simply goes up hierarchy, so chances are it makes little difference.
- someidiotinnj, on 01/24/2008, -0/+8Wouldn't "Noscript" stop this from affecting your system?
- unluckier, on 01/24/2008, -0/+4Absolutely
- wvdavis, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Man, I was wondering how far down I was going to read to find the "No Script" comment.
- bladespirit, on 01/24/2008, -2/+1his name is WINDOW S. ? This is a joke right
- god613, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Yes, that was a joke. However HER name being Window S. is not a joke.
- smackafiyah, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Eh, nothing NoScript couldn't stop
- smek2, on 01/24/2008, -1/+1So it's not just Internet Explorer anymore, i guess.
- justinjstark, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Whoopty doo. It's just a proof of vulnerability. And by the time anybody figures it out and actually implements it, Mozilla will already have a patch out.
Why is this on the front page? - paul9290, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1WINDOW ... wtf
Ironically he is the security chief... looking out the Window for a bad guy - schneidafunk, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1move along people, nothing to see here.
low priority bug that only affects add-ons, and you have to visit a malicious website in order for it to work... i doubt 1 person has been affected. - MrViklund, on 01/24/2008, -0/+2Not really a serious problem but it should be patched. Microsoft had a similar problem with Windows some time ago. As long as it is all about reading from know locations it is low risk.
- rmeddy, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1And my Firefox crashed trying to open this story hmmmmmm
- thedreaming1, on 01/24/2008, -0/+1Be afraid, be afraid at all times for only then, at the edge of madness will you see the light: A guy you never heard of before told you that your favorite browser isn't as safe as you thought it was.............................................
