- nymbot, on 09/29/2008, -3/+34Android is going to be awesome- no iPhone App Store *****, what a nice change of pace.
- kraetos, on 09/29/2008, -2/+22Well thats good, because Motorola doesn't know the first thing about making an operating system.
- bryanwilson08, on 09/29/2008, -1/+15Lets hope they'll come up with something useful and not just a Razr with android on it.
- TiMMY8765, on 09/29/2008, -0/+10motorola does have decent hardware, but their software is HORRIBLE. making android phones would make their phones so much better.
- koenigje, on 09/29/2008, -0/+9Motorola and Android......that would be a nice change of pace. I do enjoy motorolas hardware and to combine it with Android would be one nice looking, smooth operating machine!
- Qorzm, on 09/29/2008, -5/+13Slowly Google's quest to take over the world becomes a reality.
- GameEngineer, on 09/29/2008, -0/+6Android Market

http://code.google.com/android/adc_gallery/ - wrenchone, on 09/29/2008, -0/+6Why is Motorola copping a feel on Android?
- werries, on 09/29/2008, -0/+6Is it actually that bad? I'm stuck with verizon's standard software. :(
- jdutil, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5I tried asking at my local Sprint store and not a single employee has even heard of Android or Linux for that matter...
- dualscreenman, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5Makes sense since the Qt people (Trolltech) were bought by Nokia. It would be dumb not to move away from Qt-based phone interfaces after you competitor buys Qt.
- bradleyland, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5Thank god. Motorola could really use a decent OS for their phones.
- polyp2000, on 09/29/2008, -1/+6Its obvious really when you think about it. Apples offering is closed and controlled by one manufacturer. Im guessing several mobile manufacturers want a piece of that pie. So whats the alternative? Android of course - while it may have its flaws -its the closest thing any wannabe iPhone competitor is going to get. And its only going to get better. Android has the potential to grow into something far more exciting as a platform both for consumers and developers than the iPhone cold ever hope to be. Why ? Its open and unencumbered. Motorola have already been dabbling with linux based phones so this ,makes a logical progression for them. Lets just wait and see what happens as there are interesting times ahead!
- Balanced, on 09/30/2008, -0/+3Nope. It was the AIM alliance: Apple, IBM, and Motorola. IBM contributed some of the POWER architecture but Motorola was involved with the low-level design stuff, too.
- polyp2000, on 09/29/2008, -0/+3I agree , this is the beauty of the platform. The openness really is the killer app what we have now is nothing compared to what is yet to come.
- collution, on 09/29/2008, -0/+3@timusca
Obviously someone here doesn't know much; being that I've had the phone in my hands and have even played around with coding for the platform, I think you don't know scrap about platforms, interfaces or even mere code for that matter. Open Source means everything since I own and can manipulate the usability. From a coders POV, you sound like a moron.
@empraptor
I could open source the best code and you'd eat it up?
If we take your statement and flip it, it goes the other way. Android is a nice piece of code, the fact that it's Open Source makes it even better. All we are worried about here is the hardware.

The chair experts seem to be out in full force today. I guess there's no point in really replying to this idiocy. - tomz17, on 09/29/2008, -0/+3You can run early copies of android on the sprint vogue (htc touch). Not much to write home about yet.
- jessenoob, on 09/29/2008, -0/+2What the ***** was that?
- Balanced, on 09/29/2008, -2/+4Motorola really brought the poor treatment upon themselves. They didn't meet goals for PowerPC processors, so they got treated poorly.
- Ioncannon, on 09/29/2008, -0/+2Hopefully they follow standards this time. I get so pissed off when developing for Motorola phones. Here is an example: They key codes for the shoulder buttons is 6 and 7 on most phones like Nokia and Ericsson. However Motorola phones use -21 and -22, which conflict with keys bound to those numbers on other phones! Hopefully Google will fix the problem with standards on the Android phones.
- leerayIG88, on 09/29/2008, -2/+4I want Android with Sprint...anyone know when?
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -0/+2don't overlook Symbian, it's going open source, and is already running more smartphones than Android and Mac OS put together.
- chrisinsocalif, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1I think a hybrid open source phone would be great for both companies. Motorola's R&D seems to have been suffering a little bit and need something like the android to boost revenue and to present new technology and a new angle to their business model.
- strevoir, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1It's amusing people had never actually used the Android and concluding it's a decent OS
- Taiyoryu, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1Come on, Sony... even Nokia is getting in on the action. Come over to the dark side. :-D Mmmm touchscreen cybershot phone with android sounds yummy.
- leerayIG88, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1don't go..
"cow and chicken intro" - unixphreak1911, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1Hmmm... Nokia may be jumping into the Android market as well, eh? ;-)
Besides, Nokia has been doing Linux for a little while now on the N800 and N810.
Motorola is OK and all, but I would take a Nokia over a Moto any day of the week. - gamepr0, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1yeah like the PSP /sarcasm
greets from a PSP owner - remakeru, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1***** you Google and your Android. I'm sticking with my Windows Mobile (HTC Touch Diamond) that actually can do just about anything. no iphone jailbraking thingy .. etc etc...
- ethana2, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1I wonder if we'll have people flashing their current phones with android....
The OS on this v325i _sucks_. - SteveMax, on 09/30/2008, -0/+1It is already running on more smartphones than Android, OS X, Windows Mobile,Blackberry, Palm OS and whatever smart OS you can think about put together.
- inactive, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1Word on the street is a Samsung device will hit Q1 2009.
- darkNiGHTS, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1Motorola phones are poorly built, I've had two RIZRs break on me. They are good designers, but that's about it.
- browe07, on 09/29/2008, -1/+1Motorola strikes me as one of those companies like Nintendo. Their superior strategies make up for their inferior capital and help them hang with the giants.
- klooper, on 09/29/2008, -1/+1Android's importance cannot be overstated. Android 1.0 has the same importance and ability to change the landscape as Windows 3.1. Mobile Internet ubiquity is coming. It will be addictive; no one knows how far it will lead.
- werries, on 09/29/2008, -1/+1Or just put android on their razr line.
- sinembarg0, on 09/30/2008, -1/+1PowerPC was IBM, Motorola was the motorola 68000 series, that was a long time ago.
- empraptor, on 09/29/2008, -2/+2@collution
I could open source crappiest code and you'd eat it up?
I don't expect I'll need an Android phone for daily use. It'd be cool to develop on, though. As long as I'm not forced to sign up for an overpriced plan, I would try one. - MattBD, on 09/29/2008, -2/+2We need Sony to make an Android phone. They make *****-hot stuff, even nicer than Apple.
- gamepr0, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1....Google and your Android...no iphone jailbraking thingy
talk about one thing at a time, don't blame google and their android for iphoen jailbreaking 0.o - collution, on 09/29/2008, -2/+2Too bad it's a win-win situation since it's Open Source.
- ZacAttackCiT, on 09/30/2008, -1/+1The thumbnail reminds me of Eugene Levy.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0506405/ - primary0, on 09/29/2008, -1/+1and knows everything about making decent phone hardware. Razors are still slick...
- badastronaut, on 09/29/2008, -2/+1Who knows what the next couple android phones/providers after the g1 are going to be? Can't find info anywhere, not even the internet -- THE INTERNET!
- timusca, on 09/29/2008, -2/+1@collution
Open Source doesn't mean ***** if the usability is crap. - ZephyrNinety, on 09/29/2008, -4/+1Google for President!
- erix84, on 09/29/2008, -3/+0Really looking forward to this now.
I really like (Non-RAZR) Motorolas, I've got a RIZR that's lasted me about 2 years now and I have 0 complaints.
Been kindof looking for a new phone but I don't care for the touch-screens or new RAZR. - dalittle, on 09/29/2008, -5/+1Anyone remember Motorola + Apple = Motorola getting screwed? Lots of smart people at Motorola even if they do a lot of dumb things business wise. Maybe Motorola + Android is a better fit for them as it is not cell phone training wheels for Apple this time.
