- ekarulf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+169Uh, $10 says that the IP of the spammer would be an unknowing user whose computer was being used in a bot net. If your are going to punch them, that's fine, just make sure punch them for being illiterate, not for being a spammer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+137"but what to do if i know where the Spammer sits ?
Travel there and punch him in the face ?"
ABSOLUTELY! - drWhiet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+108rather interesting. it just showed my location within +/- 50 meters !
have to try the email header thing later on because my inbox gets
flooded .. ! but what to do if i know where the Spammer sits ?
Travel there and punch him in the face ? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+80This site thinks I'm in the next town.
Marked as inaccurate. LOL get it? I kill me. - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+70"rather interesting. it just showed my location within +/- 50 meters"
Coincidence. You really can't trace any more accurately than by town. It just so happens that you're very close to the geographic center of your town. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+74that guys NOT from Nigeria!!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+48Is not so accurate for me.
- PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+47try 127.0.0.1
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46I can't find 192.168.1.100
- RandomSkratch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35I traced the IP of the webserver to a smoldering hole in the ground.
- bmfiii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30It shows me off the coast of Spain... I live in Colorado...
- nethenm, on 04/01/2008, -0/+30Not even the domain name is spelled accurately.
- ConsultantJR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28talk about ruining a joke
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28mine is about 30 miles off but I'll still digg it because it got closer than any before it.
- hourigan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18The location shown is based on the info your ISP puts in its ARIN (North American) or RIPE (European) database. The map is most likely showing the location of the closest ISP router to your connection, i.e. your gateway.
- wolfkeeper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16It showed me as living at my ISP... my ISP is 200 miles away!
- Doghound, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18It isn't for me either... I'm in Colorado, but it placed me in New York.
So, just a little off... just by a tad ;p - whappo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I live in a parking lot :(
- triska, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Cool, this got me completely in the wrong state.
Lame. - aOenEz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/9904/lolololfz3.jpg
O RLY?
...Oh and I've never heard of Travis and Correll. Whatever that is. Lol... - edlowe0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Didn't work. Showed me off the coast of Spain... in the water.
Only off by half a world. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11not even close for me. Says i'm in Morrocco!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Only off by 800 miles for one of my IP addresses... the closest got to within a kilometer or two.
- UltimaNut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"i knew for ages you could trace an ip back to its Country, ISP, but this site locates your town and shows it on google earth.."
Didnt locate my town. Located my ISP's town though.
*Sigh*
When will people actually read up on what they post BEFORE they post it. Marked as INACCURATE. - jozb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8try this ip
http://218.154.3.99/view/index.shtml - socket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Any trace/map hybrid tool can only be so accurate as it's geographical information is based off a query to the IP number authority for the IP's region (e.g. ARIN in the US, and RIPE in the UK.. etc etc). If the owner of the IP block sub-allocates their IP's all bets are off.
- dbug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The results of "IP tracing" are almost as inaccurate as this story.
- Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How far is Northern Algeria from Los Angeles?...
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@anonymoustroll
that one showed me about 100 miles away from where i am - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humor

Honestly, some of you, look it up. - crxyem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Duggmirror won't work for this because of the Google API key
- dredwolff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5merreborn: actually, you're not quite correct. At least for cable internet providers they tend to group IP addresses by neighborhood. If you could determine their system for naming their routers, then traceroute to the IP in question, the name of the last router hop would probably tell you where that IP is within a mile or two. However, if you're talking about locations garnered from ARIN info, you're probably mostly right, unless the service provider decided to provide an unusual amount of info on each subnet.
- DoubleMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah I'm off the coast of Spain too, although it did correctly identify the city I'm in (in the US). I'm using a public network though, so it could be a proxy thing.
- VANOS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Man neither of these are even close for me. One showed me in Kansas, the other in Florida. Fun since I'm in Chicago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6dude, it says im from taiwan!! im from LA , and ive never been to taiwan... my ISP is comcast..
- dengzhi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5ip address: 64.233.187.99
country: United States
city: Mountain View
postcode: 94043
latitude: 37.419201
longitude: -122.057404
isp: Google
organization: Google - VolatileWhimsy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's accurate for me and I am at a secure site.. :/
- grum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Completely off for me. Wrong country and it even made up a fictitious city. I am in Western Australia. On the map, it shows me physically located in the jungles of Borneo (thats over 2100 miles away) and lists the location of my IP address as Applecross in New South Wales - there isn't even an Applecross in New South Wales.
Nice use of the gmap API but there are plenty of other websites out there that at least identify the correct country. - StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There's a limit to just how accurate these things can be. That limit is generally your ISP.
- numptydumpty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Boston, Texas?
- iupetre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow... put me in the middle of the atlantic ocean.
- netbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4NOT!!! It put my IP in the middle of the Mediterranean sea! Ha ha!
- nicstevens42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well now this nifty little tool shows me as being in the center of Qwest Field. NOW I know why there's such a mess in my living room on Sunday when the Seahawks are in town!
Oh yeah a second look show me in central France. - Wizardo55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@anonymoustroll
The best that site can come up with is that I am, in fact, in the United States...
I've used a lot of these, and so far I think the most accurate (as accurate as any IP locator can be...) is http://geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm - tradjik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Shows my ISP in Spain as well. Guess that explains the latency sometimes ;)
(I live in Ohio btw) - Shroomie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That couldn't even tell me what state I'm in.
- thejohnfloyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't live in Brooklyn. I'm afraid that my Internets may be coming from an area in which I am afraid of....
- atlacatl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm digging it, but where is the code?
And why the plead to be dug?
"Hot News: We are now an upcoming story on digg.com. If you are digg.com member and like this site please digg us."
Actually, I'm undigging it because of neediness. - bioskope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3***** they found my University's NAT router
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"but what to do if i know where the Spammer sits ?"
You realize that spammers don't just send email from their home computer. It is most likely from a botnet and it is your neighbor! That's what you do. -
