Shame on me :p - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I hate myspace, it feels like such a step backwards in technology. We were useing web based messages and chat before we had IM. And people used to create web pages out of html , not a "free super cool layout "
- Razster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8What do people expect when they post photos of their family? For Christ sakes they are retards to being with for posting photos of kids if they do not expect some sick perv to take and use. This is Common sense on the Internet. Sorry if their behind the times and expect ever human on earth to act like perfect people. Not going to happen, use all that rage to stop our Dictator instead. Or plant a Tree and STFU.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Orkut...sounds like the name of a Russian satellite.
- corevette, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Not to mention Google is creating their own 3D Social Networking World: http://google.blognewschannel.com/archives/2007/10 ...
- clumsyjim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Some of the orkut users definitely aren't popular on flickr....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarahsmile1/143625770 ... - Razster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Just login and create your profile. No invite needed.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Orkut is also very strong in Latin America"
If for Latin America they're referring to Brasil then is ok but in the rest of Latin America no one beats hi5. - resplence, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't know if you're joking or not, but orkut is not invite-only anymore.
- mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2orkut has been changing a lot this past month .. now you can prevent who can send you scrapbooks!
- SteveMax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The last few updates made it slightly usable, with RSS feeds and better privacy options. But it still misses a lot.
- mikehill33, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Rename it iOrkut and watch the Digg submissions skyrocket!
- beset, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It will be a fake, anyone can see that.
- mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1agree, MySpace is HORRIBLE !!!
I prefer Facebook, but there are few friends of mine there.. - takeyan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3The bad thing in myspace is that it allows people to express their taste.
Cus in fact, is a lack of taste for most users. - Yoda916, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"sophisticated developed white world Facebook is ahead."
Someone needs to bring this guy back down to reality. - SteveMax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Was this someone else posting as him, or is this guy really that full of *****? Facebook just lost a lot of respect after this rant.
- Insomnya3AM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Orkut had better become useful in ways Facebook or Myspace isn't or it's going to continue to languish here in the USA.
I don't need another networking site and most everyone I know doesn't either. - cbmilne33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2One way for Google to expand the Orkut social networking site is to simply sign up all Google account holders-whether or not they have a gmail.com address.By the way I am on Orkut,Bebo,Facebook.Myspace,Digg(naturally),Xanga,Yahoo360,Windows/MSN Spaces Live, etc.
- mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah. Totally True.
Just Brazil.
And for the past few days I can see how people in Asia are joining to it.. a lot !!
I've never ever seen so much communities in english as I see today.. - zendegany, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0social networks are just good enough for spamming these days.
- livingwater, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hurry up and make a free AdultFriendFinder.
- mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Orkut is HUGE in Brazil.
One of the mosts importants websites ... - Quiplash, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Orkut may have the lead in Latin America and the Asia/Pacific markets, but I predict there is NO WAY that they are going to overtake Myspace and Facebook in the key Europe and North American markets. In particular, Facebook is taking off like a rocket (especially here in Canada) after opening its API to developers earlier this year. Google stumbled badly with Orkut, and lost most of its Eur/NAmer users early on. It will take a lot -- too much effort, too late -- to bring them back.
- mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0lol ..
same here
whenever there is a social network, there is my name~!! - mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0'That's true .. but I don't ..
Orkut belongs to Google and not to Microsoft and Yahoo..
I believe that when they want something, they get it. - Lowrads, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0I think you're right, and that that's really near the core of it. All this linking of one user generated database to another is just leading to the closest simulacrum of a science fiction ideal of cyberspace via the most efficient management technique outside of AI.
Sites like facebook, with a veneer of traditional insiders and outsiders networking, is the best equivalent for representing oneself on paper. It's not going to be as powerful as a project that attempts to rerepresent the world, and then serves as the basis for new integrated projects. - mixellita, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0they're promessing a lot of new stuff !!
And actually there's a lot of new stuff ..
Should we trust it ?
Well, it's GOOGLE, it's not just ORKUT.
And in Google .. I TRUST. - MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Orkut has the same spam problems MySpace does. The whole reason I stopped using it was because people I didn't know were sending me links to spam sites. Facebook is much better in terms of controlling your privacy.
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Orkut is STILL the fugliest most unusable social network on Earth, and has been for years. Had they not left it to rot it would probably be OK by now. Completely baffling why it has had no upgrades.
- Jisan, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1This is interesting, mark commented to article.

Don is right. Google may be the king of search but it will never be the social engine of the Internet. I firmly believe that this is where Facebook will score. Orkut is popular in POOR countries like the third world countries of South Asia. However in the Greatest country in the world and i8n the sophisticated developed white world Facebook is ahead.
Can you imagine in a couple years when Facebook has 200 million users worldwide, with half of them logging in every day, and a 25 year old will be CEO of this company? I can’t think of a parallel in world history where someone as young as me had this much influence. Oh wait. Alexander the Great. I want Facebook to be the social operating system of the web. That is something Google isn’t and is never going to be. At this point, nobody is closer to that vision than Facebook. Facebook will be the next Google trust me. In San Francisco my aim of having the developers conference was to unleash a tidal wave of masterful PR spin on what Facebook is–the future–and on what Facebook is not – MySpace. It is a hundred times better than that. So shove it Murdoch! We comfortably passed eBay in traffic and we’re working on passing Google, too in a few months time.
What is Orkut anyway? Actually come to think of it Facebook IS already another Google, in fact, seeking to control, for-its own greedy profit motives, all the world’s personal information. - wilhel1812, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1can anyone invite me? wilhelm.francke@gmail.com
- mattymayhem, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1One day they will tell Orkut members to join arms and Google will get what they have always wanted......http://cult.google.com

What is Digg?
