- mardraum, on 01/03/2009, -1/+18now how are dumb girls supposed to get into college and fail out of premed programs when they can't even suck off an interviewer or two?
- Jabrams2, on 01/02/2009, -0/+17I think there is definitely merit to this concept. It allows those who can't afford to travel to a school to have the same chance as anyone else. However, the type of impression you can really make from a webcam is pretty debatable.
- AboveandBeyond, on 01/03/2009, -0/+14ill photoshop boobs on myself....that will get me the place.
- lex0nyc, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8Thank you, Dean Wurmer.
- maxwashere, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8This is terrible because I just invested in collegiate shoes.
I'll have to sit with my feet propped up. - raphaeltmnt, on 01/02/2009, -6/+13I don't know if I would want to interview remotely. Sure, I may be more comfortable, but I feel college interviews should be conducted with some measure of formality.
- sharkd, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5Especially when they pause, then ask you to "disambiguate" the conversation topic from a number of similarly worded phrases.
- cddict1, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4Time and cost saving.
- phosphite, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4For her college interview, Avery Cullinan took off her best outfit and flashed her boobs, and told an admissions officer more than 800 miles away that Wake Forest University was right for her.
- lisaawesome, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3I found it interesting that the article mentions that the webcam interview could be cost prohibitive for some students due to the equipment needed. To me if you can't afford the webcam you definitely can't afford to fly out for an interview so it is still a better option financially. Or you could always go to a school that doesn't interview for admissions.
- KibibyteBrain, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3But part of the idea of interviews for grad school are to tell if an applicant is really really interested in attending the school, since you have limited grants and really need committed talent for research acquaintanceship. So being willing to go through all the trouble of an interview is more of a test of will. The same with some job interviews.
But for undergrad interviews or the like, I think this only makes sense, as the need for an interview in this way is not really an issue. But I will warn people to practice first, because chances are you probably don't go in front of a camera very often, and giving a presentation on camera is quite a bit different of a monster than in person if you want to do a top notch job. - heybeevo, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3In the department I work for we have a number of international PhD cohorts. Their studies are all distance learning except for a three week summer session. For some students it did not make sense to travel to the US for the interview.
- darlingt, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2You can tell when someone's looking away from the camera.
- lex0nyc, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Is it pie?
- fsdd, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3That's wonderful
- rocksun, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2I think an online interview can hide something that I want to hide.
- omegared, on 01/03/2009, -0/+1why have interviews? I thought schools were trying to accept a person into school mainly for their education record, not how they will be influenced by a interview.
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -2/+3On the one hand this seems like a great idea, but on the other hand it seems like most of these interviewers are tech stupid, so if there is a glitch, it's YOUR fault.
With that being said, daddy will have to pony up even more money if you can't screw your way into the Ivy League. - AirRaven, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2And lo and behold, the interviewee has several Wikipedia pages and textbooks relevant to their subject open in front of them, off-camera, through the whole interview.
- Spoomeister, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2How can ya start an article that way and not have a pic of the girl? Hmph.
* goes off to google 'barefoot pantsuit college applicant' * - turpenine, on 01/03/2009, -2/+2well of course, wake forest blows.
- mycollegestat, on 07/10/2009, -0/+0Cornell does a lot of phone interviews. Online is not too far away
- fanqie, on 01/03/2009, -1/+1maybe online interview can save their time at the most
- aljamiat, on 01/07/2009, -0/+0I just came across this, its a great concept for international students, especially those from countries that don't offer the TOEFL, the admissions officer will be able to evaluate their english very easily. I hope more schools do this!
- kmpr326, on 01/04/2009, -1/+1Why not? It will be as formal as they want to make it.
