- Mfrosty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I diagree retrospectiv......She was obviously fuc*ing up bad in one of the most important times of her life. She needed to learn her lesson so she has a future. It was for her own good.
- JzLosman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thank you for proving my point x2dx -- You would tell your mother to "go ***** herself". You must have been raised so well and taught a great deal of respect right? Obviously whatever your parents used to raise you didn't work out so well either, you don't seem very respectful.
- BuzFortuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny, my parents just make me wear signs that say things like "We love publicity!".
- JzLosman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@TheMJ -- is your life so involved with tech that no other stories can be around you? You are in charge of clicking the link to get here. I really hope you didnt expect technology when you saw "Mom Makes Teen Stand On Street With Sign." Nothing seems techy in that statement at all. So you wasted your own time to come into this comment section to bitch and moan. Obviously enough people thought it was interesting for it to make it to front page. The whole world doesn't have to be tech, relax and just read some other information once adn a while.
- JzLosman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@kingprad -- I agree to an extent. But I really don't think the kid gets off scott free cause the parents didn't punish them early enough. We could let a whole lot of criminals go free cause its not their fault they murdered people, only the parents are to blame. While I agree that parents are morons in general these days, the kid has a part in it. Maybe they have been trying to punish the kid all along, but the kid is just resilient. This did the trick so it might seem.
and to quote some previous comments, PWNED! - MegaHyster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have two youngins myself. Ideas like this come about after they laugh after receiving a spanking. That's when you have to try alternatives.
- retr0spectiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is anyone else utterly disgusted by this kind of behavior?
Parents these days... there should be a psychiatric exam one must take to be able to raise a child. - JzLosman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love how you are not supposed to punish for bad behavior but instead catch your child being good. NEWS FLASH - If you have a bad ass kid, good luck finding alot of good behavior. Perhaps she was late to class everyday cause she was saving babies from burning cars. I guess I see the good in her now.
I love how you people think having a child hold a sign for an hour is so damn cruel. How bout the parents that don't give 2 ***** about their kids and lets them do whatever they want. Those are great parents right? I think thats where our attention should be. Damn this mom for trying to straighten out her kid, even if she didn't do it earlier on, atleast she is trying. - LaCamiseta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm more curious about finding out who in their right mind would be using PeoplePC to get their news than what the mom did.
Oh, and kudos to the mom. Unorthodox to say the least, but from reading the article, it was obviously effective. - Milty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People may not like what she did but she's the parent and that is his her right to do that type of punishment. Best part is, it probably worked.
- cfdisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is awsome. More parents need to learn from this.
- kingprad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think if a 14 year old is acting this way it shows 14 previous years of bad parenting. They waited way too long to start suddenly demanding discipline. Pretty common these days, letting bad behaviour go on for years because he or she is "just a child". And then suddenly they decide their kid was supposed to magically become mature, respectful, and disciplined. Then it is the child's fault for some reason. The parents screwed up seriously here.
- JzLosman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@shaft --- haha i love how you compare having a kid hold a sign with nazi germany. You should get slapped you ignoramus.
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nevermind... people are commenting too fast here. kingprad, I agree.
- shigami, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think I hear lawsuit
- nene7070, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is funny, but sad at the same time...
- Fly1m1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Way to go mom! digg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Absolutely pwned.
- noahhendrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I defiantly think this way more effective than a spanking. First off this child seems to have no physiological damage, and no physical damage. So what is wrong with it?
- kimuuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with kingprad... but I still applaud the mom's efforts to change her kid's ways.
- trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wouldn't have condoned it but it sounds like it worked.
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sad that people equate preparing for one's future with doing well in school.
There's other issues at play here; school and "talking back" isn't it. - bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dumb chicks study all their lives, smart chicks take advantage of what they have and marry some rich guy, period.
- mrpither, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1e x c e l l e n t . . .

PWNED. - Mfrosty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kingprad....way to jump to conclusions lol
- subtle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Donald Wertlieb sounds like a big girl's blowse:
>>
Donald Wertlieb, a professor of child development at the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts University, warned that such punishment could do extreme emotional damage. He said rewarding positive behavior is more effective.
"The trick is to catch them being good," he said. "It sounds like this mother has not had a chance to catch her child being good or is so upset over seeing her be bad, that's where the focus is."
>>
F*&k Donald Wertlieb, f*&k the attention whore mother of this little urchin and f*&k the psuedo-psychology culture that makes crappy stories like this one far too common in the US of Ass. - scbysnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FREAKIN AWESOME! I can't stand people who say "reward good behavior don't punish bad behavior" .. crackpot
- winner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It had to be utterly mortifying when the press showed up. Suppose the humiliated kid shoots herself? I'm sure mom wouldn't be wanting to talk to the press then.
- khepera, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, down here in South Africa, this sort of thing is the norm, albeit not for the purposes of punishment. You cant stop at a corner without being mobbed by like 3 ppl begging with there kids
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sad that people equate preparing for one's future with doing well in school.
There's other issues at play here; school and "talking back" isn't it. - keane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wtf?
when will digg branch out to other subjects besides tech? - stonebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Welcome to idiot America!
Momma needs a public whipping, I think - to get a taste of her own medicine. Lets put Dr. Phil up there with her, just for good measure. ;^P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OWN3D

- defylogik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ha i love it. seriously kids today have no respect for anything. sometimes this needs to be done.
- x2dx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If it were me and my mom tryed to make me do something like that I would tell my mom to go ***** her self.
Thats the parents own falt for bad parenting. This is not a measure that works usally in the long run. - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent!!!! If only all parents were involved with their children that much.
""""Suppose the humiliated kid shoots herself"""
Children don't get embarassed one time and kill themself. It is a longer term thing. If the child would shoot herself for that who is to say she wouldn't shoot herself because she is grounded and embarassed? You can't think like that unless you see signs of suicide. I teach and a lot of kids have parents who really do not care about their kids at all. It is nice to see involvement.
Eric Wilson - Panoctopi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sad...but hilarious.
