- gbotmbot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18SQL Server is a great product.
You may bury this now, since anything positive about Microsoft gets buried. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You think that is the first time?
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i guess you also complain about apple, considering how mac os is based on others technology, also, do you complain about google who have also bought quite a few companies, ie, keyhole to play catch up to virtual earth.
be quiet, take your lemming opinions elsewhere, though they seem to thrive here on digg. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4samsonlonghair and "posting intelligence" in the same sentence?
MAy I say, WTF?
Because of course, being one of the richest companies in the world is all about luck, and no business intelligence.
What a ***** stupid thing to say. - lonnieh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3With a name like s0ny you must be super intelligent. It really sounds like your opinion really matters.
- s0ny, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Yes, I agree SQL kicks ass, but just once I wish Microsoft would actually DEVELOP an application instead of always buying the best thing out there, adding the "Microsoft Touch" and ruining it, and then slapping their name on it. I mean, Microsoft does actually have developers....right?
Maybe they are just too busy "working" on Vista....HAH! - rastan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I live in Boise, Idaho. Proclarity's main office is just about 3 blocks away from me, on 9th Street.
I've always found their business analysis software got quite good marks, but yeah, this is kind of strange to hear that nice little software company down the street getting engulfed.
But like @ramsinks said, if they're coming to my favorite home town, I need to hunker down :). Not that I hate Microsoft's products (Visio is fantastic, even if it isn't technically theirs, and PC Gaming is still XP-dominant), I just love my Linux servers and laptop so much more :).
P.S. That random digg text verification actually spelt a word for the first time ever. "waves". Cool. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You mispelled Sybase.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why recicle a joke that you saw on slashdot? lack of imagination?
- adilosman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is pretty hot news for people in the OLAP world anyone that uses Proclarity and SQL server. A great digg!
Proclarity while not as known as some of the other great OLAP providers, is without doubt probably the sleekest and user-friendly tool available on the market. Moreover, its ability to seamlessly connect to Microsoft Analysis Services allows companies to quickly deploy OLAP type functionality within their organization.
In terms of its acquisition by Microsoft I think this is excellent news and will prove to be a great decision by Microsoft. While Microsoft SQL Server and Analysis Services are without doubt exceptional products, one of the areas the company's product line really fell short was on the reporting side and providing the end user business community a good tool to slice and dice data held in Microsoft's Analysis Services cubes.
Moreover, with the fact that latest releases of Analysis Services have been completed redesigned from the bottom-up, this acquisition couldn't come at a better time. I think the likes of business objects and Oracle really now have something to worry about with Microsoft now being able to provide a highly effective end-to-end enterprise solution. - s0ny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, your right, because all the news I always hear is about Apple sitting idly with their thumbs in their butts, and then when a company comes out with something new and exciting they swoop down and purchase them. Besides the acquisition of NeXT, which in reality was more of a NeXT takeover of Apple, name the last piece of software that wasn't developed in house? iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion, Shake (Although it was initially purchased from another company it was nowhere the app it is now.) and all OSX incarnations since it was purchased. Thats an amazing amount of great quality software all built and conceived by their in house developers.
Now, outside of office, name the last software developed by Microsoft where they didn't purchase A. a company or B. some of the code from another company? As the guy said above...

and @lonnieh - I use s0ny because thats what Ive used ever since AOL back in 1992, and I hardly see how having a different name online qualifies peoples responses in a positive or negative way. So according to you, if I changed my digg login to 'Einstein' that instantly everything I typed would become more relevant and intelligent to you and the digg gods would bow to every comment I typed? nice try. - GORby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1bariswheel said: "and this article got dugg so many times because?"
Because apparently, enough people cared to digg it. What other reason could there be?
And if Rastan likes Visio, why not let him use that? I don't have a Visio license, so I just downloaded Dia to check it out. Looks nice at first sight. - SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Proclarity is great product...
- hypehype, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ooh they are bitter aren't they?
- blevinscm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ProClarity makes a very impressive product for SQL server Analysis Services. Hopefully this will become part of the stack as the visualization piece. That would make MS SQL server a much better product.
- jo42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Insert wise-crack about business 'intelligence' being just like military 'intelligence'...
- phaed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what a moron
- bariswheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rastan you like Visio...? have you tried dia? get it from sourceforge....
and this article got dugg so many times because? - burt0010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used Proclarity's software since the beginning and they were always light-years ahead of anyone when it comes to data visualization. Their business/sales/marketing practices sucked, though. Maybe microsoft with give it away for free now in order to sell more SQL licenses...
- KMehthas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3dugg your comment out of spite ;)
- mammon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Business Intelligence and analytics are gaining momentum as more companies compete on how well they analyze and apply their internal information. See the following for more detail:
http://www.tomdavenport.com/
a company who does this well is: http://www.spotfire.com/ - jayf, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Now if they only gain some Clarity Vista might see the day of light.
- Hatte, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2/. beat digg to the punch, wtf?
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2blah.. there comming here to Boise...

gg~ - samsonlonghair, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0"Microsoft announced Monday that it plans to acquire business analytics software developer ProClarity to increase its presence in the business intelligence market."
Microsoft and "business intelligence" in the same sentence?
May I say, WTF?
