- mvanhorn, on 10/11/2007, -7/+32Direct google page - http://www.google.com/mobile/goog411/index.html
- pinsomniac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Looks like Google is assuming that those wanting a map image can access the web from their phones (which kind of defeats the purpose of goog411). Would have been better to do MMS/picture messaging.
Given that, wouldn't it make more sense to tie this in with Google Maps Mobile? Aside from the fact that there are still a number of mobile phones out there that cannot go to a URL sent via SMS, the map itself is little more than a tiny square image that's difficult to navigate. Tie it in with GMaps and not only can you get a far better idea of the location, but you can also get driving directions and traffic info. - mapkinase, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11It does not send you a map, it sends you a link.
- ronmexico, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Yeah, who needs a phone for a phone service?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I'm so proud of digg today. This is about the 3rd story in a row where the first comment bypassed the blogspam. Nicely done.
- ericnmu, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11Wow, complete blog spam. They didn't add _anything_ useful.
- Werelock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I almost died from shock for how quick it was. Recognized the city I requested on the first try (Columbia, Mo), category pizza on the first try, and the 2nd one listed was the one I wanted. Received details without any trouble, said "map it" and my phone literally beeped in < 2 seconds.
Flawless victory, 800-Goog-411 FTW. - doronster195, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Verizon users can forget this feature. Unless they want to pay the $20 a month for internet use.
- DIAF, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That processing noise made while searching cracked me up.
Also I asked for Titos Tacos, and it sent and connected me to Chitos Tacos. Eh good enough. - acetv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3And roughly 50 times more expensive?
- V3n0M, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You can get all kinds of information by texting Google too. Just text the number 466453 ('GOOGLE') and type what you're looking for: weather, word definitions, restaurant locations... http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/
- Tostones, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This works well. I ended up testing it by calling a strip club. The funny thing is it seems like the business will get automatically called so I had a guy named Daniel start talking to me. I found that amusing.
- jiub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I've been using it for a few months now and have never had a problem with voice recognition
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Tellme (1-800-555-TELL) has had this since they launched free directory assistance...
- d3faultnet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i tried it; the guy said "sending map", but it's been like 5 min and no map has come :(... maybe the servers are getting overloaded from all the digg users....
- eurokc98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Works pretty well I guess. I tied it on a Treo 700wx, the map shows up very small.
- Sean23, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3When I saw an advertisement for the iPhone, they showed a map on it with information and I thought, "Why can't goog411 do something like this?".
- akshay626, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1tried it, it's useful in that it sends you the address and phone number as a text message also.
- yacks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2
All you need to do is call the number, say "map it", and the text message will come to you with a map of what you're looking for right there on your phone. It's an easy way to figure out where you need to go.
So is Google getting into the mind reading business over the phone as well?
Step 1: Dial 1800-goog-411
Step 2: Say "map it"
Step 3: receive txt.. Here's Directions to Ruby's Diner in Newport beach, Ca
:D - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It is not the "text message"( I would like to see map in ascci code!) IT is called MMS!
- abandonedhero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It already was posted at the top. Buried as duplicate.
You're welcome everyone - just doing my civil duty. - tilleyrw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Incredible!!! It asked the city and state of the business, then the name. I said "Titusville, Florida, YMCA" and it found the number and map for me. Someone kick me, I must be dead.
For some reason, my Moto RAZR wouldn't display the map but only the URL. That's only a minor complaint. I'll talk to AT&T. Go Google! - prgmctan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yeah, you have to say map it. at least I know that works.
- davidrools, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1when it costs $600 and $60+/mo with no GPS
- davidrools, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1the only problem i've had is that it gets confused when my friends are talking in the background. it tries to understand them and gets all confused.
- wakkow, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's not even that. I just got a link in a plain ol' sms text message.
- dunkyp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1the proper link is http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/1-800-goog-411-now-with-maps.html
- DerTeufel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2It works fantastic with the iPhone. When you click on the link it launches the google maps app on the iphone with your requested map displayed.
- potterboy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1More like July Fool's Day.
- inactive, on 11/25/2007, -0/+0Cheapest and the best data recovery service in the world.

elevator shoes
Turn any shoes into height increase elevator shoes. - severussancio, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0This service from Google has actually been out since April of this year.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I love goog411 except when I'm in a noisy place. It picks up everything as some kind of command from me, even in a quiet restaurant setting. You get some of the most interesting results that way. It also says some names in an odd way. "Buca Di Beppo" sounds like "ucadepo" said by that guy who used to do the commercials for Micro Machines.
- mapkinase, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I just tried it. It is useless.
- MeltingIce, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This really isn't all that new, but useful nonetheless
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Hopefully they've improved the voice recognition as well alongside this new addition.
- juliend2, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1OMG it's april fools' day?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1I remember when I was able to do this on that old iPhone, except 50 times better
