- floejoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3something to do with iPod and AJAX, but like the whole thing is totally wireless, dude. And its white, because if its not white it wont sell.
It will overpromise, and it will underdeliver
Everyone will be pissed
300 people will post "this blows" comments
The story will post a link to their blog about how product _____ sucks
Someone posts a link to a new Apple/Nintendo/Sony rumor.
The story about Google resurfaces
Rinse and repeat. - floorpie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I bet it's a hi-fi boombox and a leather case for your tivo!
- kitykity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they make a tivo box that will let you easily subscribe to videoblogs and other RSS feeds via a web page, I'd get one in an instant.
- bluemax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Couldn't you have just saved the Digg headline until the announcement was actually made?
- thomashawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually don't think it is lame at all. Kids are super important and so is empowering parents with tools to best manage our kids TV. I know it sounds stupid for me to say that but with four kids of my own this is actually something really important.
http://thomashawk.com/2006/03/tivos-big-news-may-be-bigger-than-we.html - wayjer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why are we digging an announcement of an announcement. No Digg
- GuineaPig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope it's a boombox.
- UnclePunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hopefully that initiative isn't the liquidation of their assets due to going bankrupt!
Still holding out for a takover by Apple! - Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Beh, its prolly that KidZone service thats been talked about. Maybe not, since it seems kinda wimpy to hold and event for just that annoucement. They're not Apple for goodness sake (nor do they have Apple money).
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0free tivos in exchange for slightly higher monthly fees.
- Moddinati, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why don't we announce actual news instead of "let's speculate". wait one day and digg something with some real content.
- Kodiak41226, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If this is it:
http://digg.com/security/TiVo_s_Big_Announcement:_KidZone_Parental_Control_Initiative
That can hardly be considered major news. - tidal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0at yet again only for series 2... TIVO you bastige
- boxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I bet it's a hi-fi boombox and a leather case for your tivo!"
NICE!!!! - tjl2015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look I can speculate to...I predict the ultimate convergence box. A combined DVR/DVD/CD/Player/Burner/HD-DVD/BlueRay/HTPC/MP3 Server/Bit Torrent Dump/VCR/Hard Drive/Toaster/Taser/Fridge/Keg Cooler/Telescope/Spy Satellite/Nuclear Bomb/Teleporter/Intergalactic Space Ship! There, where's my front page story? Sheez, wait till tomorrow. Pointless story.
- GMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As far as TiVo for Macs, their page at http://www.tivo.com/4.9.4.1.asp says
"Version 1.x of TiVo Desktop is available for the Macintosh (OS X, v10.2)" - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I suppose it's too late to hope that the announcement has something to do with TiVo re-upping their partnership with DirecTV?
- DVRDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yahoo services have been available for over a month now... I posted pictures in November:
http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2005-11/exclusive-tivo-beta-photos/ - FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My guess is a Comcast HD PVR.
- floejoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0meant to say:
Someone will post a link to their blog about how product ____ sucks
(need those edit comments to be available soon) - Anth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm always right. =^)
- januarys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a tivo clapper. clap on - clap clap - clap off - clapclapclap!
an an emergency tivo button to wear on your wrist or keychain, for when you fallen, you cant get up, and you need to see the sopranos. - DavisFreeberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0During Roger's last interview, he did say that the pricing was almost finalized, so it could be related to their recently announced rental program, but the press release suggests that there will be some kind of a partnership announcement involved. It's interesting that it's at the TV musuem. Maybe TiVo is going to start allowing us to download classic TV shows or historical footage.
- blong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
I would like an affordable, 500GB HD version with WiFi G/N, USB 2!
Thanks TiVo! - orabox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tivio announces that they do not suck is my guess
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0team up with google.
- claco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't understand why people still by new Tivos. The more software updates that come out, the more crippled they get...can't record some things...past recording deleted "automatically" for the industries convienence, etc.
- Grayfox777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want a DVR box that doesn't utilize some stupid service that has monthly payments... something more like a VCR.
- snapcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Honestly why would you want to get a tivo when you can build a mythtv box that will pay for itself and save you money over the long term?
- drewbombard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just read somewhere that they are partnering with Verizon Wireless to allow control of your TiVo box directly through the phone.

Could this be the "big" announcement? - RiotActing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They are partnering with Comcast... all comcast DVRs will get TIVO software upgrades...
- fume, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0instead of putting up an article about them making an announcement tomorrow why don't you wait for the announcement then place a story here
- rworne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah transfer of video to iPod. The sweet, sweet, irony of this is that Mac users are not invited to the party.
- thomashawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like it very well may be the kidzone thing, per the New York Times.
http://thomashawk.com/2006/03/tivo-to-offer-tighter-rein-on.html - RiotActing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems like a pretty minor thing to call a "calling all cars" press conference for... a kidzone? lame...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TiVo please, please say you are finally shipping your stand alone HD TiVo box.
I loved my TiVo, but when I switched to Hi Def Cable I had to go with the crappy Scientific Atlanta DVR that Brighthouse has. The TiVo has the best UI and updated program schedule around. I never knew how good TiVo was until I was forced to use the generic cable company brand.
I was hoping that this week's Mac Mini announcement was something along the lines of a Mini DVR with Front Row....but not yet. With the other digg about AppleInsider story on the iTunes down-loadable movie service an iTunes DVR/movie playback unit may not be far off.
But for now....TiVo please bring out the HD DVR you've been promising!! - armcurl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why would anyone digg this? wait for the announcement.
- crash331, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's probably about the features that are currently in beta.
- rickfle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Free box or Tivo is dead.
- mikeod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They will add on galleon like features. They will announce a new system to bother their customers with more ads. Then the biggest feature of all is the monthly price increase.
- jason7655, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what was the announcement?
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I don't understand why people still by new Tivos. The more software updates that come out, the more crippled they get...can't record some things...past recording deleted "automatically" for the industries convienence, etc."
As a Tivo user none of these things have troubled me yet. - WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Spoiler Alert:
It is just a new feature to block pr0n from the kiddiez - GuyNextDoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Maybe they will finally announce that they will be broke and out of business soon. :) Without any cable and satellite provider deals, no matter how good their product is, they don't stand a chance to be around much longer. "
Ummmm...they have a major contract with Comcast to supply software for all their DVR boxes. I don't think TIVO is going to die anytime soon...and if they do, the world will be worse off.
Second, this announcement was lame...KidZone? Geesh, what a let down :) - jason7655, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nevermind : http://thomashawk.com/2006/03/tivos-big-news-may-be-bigger-than-we.html
- caffiend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope they announce they've fixed their Yahoo login problem. If your password has special characters in it then you can't login to Yahoo thru Tivo. What a bunch of BS!
- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm thinking some sort of video on demand? Or perhaps Tivo Desktop 3.0 incorporating Galleon-like features?
Engadget article: http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/01/tivo-unveiling-new-initiative-at-press-event-tomorrow/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@armcurl exactly.
Otherwise people might be expecting a touch screen with full video capabilities built-in. Wait that was yesterday... - ThirdPrize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oooh! I bet its something to do with donkeys!
- DiggThisOrThat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe they will finally announce that they will be broke and out of business soon. :) Without any cable and satellite provider deals, no matter how good their product is, they don't stand a chance to be around much longer.
