- eV64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+220Do the right thing! report it! http://www.mpaa.org/ReportPiracy.asp
- plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+175"Bit hard when he's in the UK, aye?"
But it would be classic, as the MPAA is famous for attempting to sue people in other countries (see: TPB) - otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+171MPAA's Response::

"quick! delete the damn page!@!@#@!" - mitchconnerr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+130Ahh...Gotta love the hypocrisies of big money.
Well if we apply MPAAs own logic on this..not only should he sue them for illegally using his code, but he should also sue for each individual visit to each MPAA web PAGE on which the code is used. He should also file a suit against, or force the ISP used to host their site for all records of IPs that visited the site, along with forcing them to take down the site until it is investigated and found to be either free of his code or properly licensed for it. He should also contact authorities and have ALL of their equipment seized and their domain taken off line as this would be the ONLY way to investigate their systems and ensure proper removal or compliance of licensing, I mean, you cant believe what they say..or is that just what the MPAA says about us????
Sorry the MPAA logic is so flawed its impossible for any intelligent person to make sense of it but I THINK I got it correct.
Dugg once again for the pure audacity of logic the MPAA uses in its fight to criminalize all of us for practice they themselves deem legal only for them. - sannm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+129He really should, he would be an internet "hero" if he flew over here and sued their asses
- Padwah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+84I'm Patrick Robin the developer behind Forest Blog and a bunch of other things, I just wanted to say thanks for everyones comments and OneManArmy for sticking it on Digg.
The original article that this is based on is posted on my personal site here: http://www.patrickrobin.co.uk/default.asp?Display=4 and a follow up here: http://www.patrickrobin.co.uk/default.asp?Display=5 (I hope this isn't seen as blog spam) - runep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+81Well, they obviously can't afford that, what with all the movie piracy.
- nightterror, on 10/12/2007, -0/+701. Figure out how many pages they created with the blog software.
2. Get a copy of the log files showing how many people accessed the pages.
3. Charge them $750 per page view.
4. Profit
They should be very aware how this process works. They were one of the pioneers! - bobbknight, on 10/12/2007, -2/+69Give me the rights in the USA and as I am in NY, I will sue them in small claims court for the maximum and give the cash receive to the EFF.
- geoken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+60"Thank you for reporting piracy.
Every effort will be made to follow through on your report. Thank you for supporting the MPAA." - joshf52, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61Good call, eV64.
"I am writing to inform you that the MPAA has stolen Patrick Robin's Forest Blog code. This is a very serious offense, and I hope you take action upon these pirates immediately. Yarr." - otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56hahaha, it'd be great if everyone submitted a piracy report on this.
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55Like the record companies, the MPAA shows its firm belief that copyright infringement is only wrong and evil if it's *not them doing it*.
Software developers can be pushed around and stolen from when you're the RIAA or MPAA, because we all know software developers have no IP rights over their own work.
I'm still waiting for Sony BMG to actually apologise for its sale of copyright infringing unauthorized copies of other people's software as part of its "rootkit".
These organisations seem view the rest of the world (where their money comes from) as thieves and scum, and the reality is they need to look in the mirror.

We can't prove that - it's IIS, any member of the public could have deleted that page. - pathy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+64Bit hard when he's in the UK, aye?
- cannonstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43Aha. Aren't they the one who made the commercials about sound editors, set builders and all those low level film industry jobs trying to plea to the theatre audience to not to pirate the movies?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40done and... done! :D
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32funny coincidence. im copying a bit of the MPAA's disc products right now and don't plan on rewarding them either
- kingyubba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32maybe this is the MPAA's way of saying piracy is okay now...
message received. :-) - cwshea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33If he flew over here to the US to sue them, I don't think he'd have a problem buying airfares. Just post on digg. I'd donate.
Would you? - Crazychipmunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30"You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a television. You wouldn't steal a DVD."
Apparently stealing this guys code doesn't apply under these.
Jerks. - baalzebub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27you know how corPirate GreedMonsters are, they are all hypocrites, "do as i say, not as i do"...
- pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25reminds me of when orrin hatch called for recording companies to be able to remotely damage computers of people who download music. right after than they found his website was using code without permission. hypocrites, all of them.
- alrahman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25***** the MPAA and the hypocritical bastards behind it.
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23He sells a commercial license for £25 that lets them remove the branding.
- lazyeyesam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others...
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22That's a very good idea, he should contact the MPAAs web hosters, and have them shut down the MPAA's site - IMMEDIATELY.
- livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27SUE THEM *****!!
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20quote
That's called plagarism which is fraud, not theft... unless you believe the stuff they teach you in school which is heavily illogical.

WRONG! When someone writes code, or writes a poem etc., you automatically get copyright protection. This is code, not a report. Besides, copyright violation isn't theft either, so uploading an MP3 or Movie isn't theft, it's violation of copyright. If you download it, and use it for personal reasons, it's called fair use. If you use it for business or monterey gain, it's copyright violation. - logicnazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I would be most surprised if the MPAA did not have some presence in england that would let him sue them there.
- bonked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Submitted.... :-) Great idea!
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18You mean how it's not the Grandmother's fault (DSL line in her name) who gets sued for the grandaughter downloading a single MP3? This (the MPAA infringing) should be looked at no differently.
- SimonDonkers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19I will get modded down but still, what if they haven't deleted the page but it has never existed? A google on site:mpaa.org blog gives no result as do similar queries. Nor does archive.org, Yahoo or MSN list the URL. All we have is a 404 URL and a picture. There's no robots.txt (apparently they never heard about this) so why should the page not be indexed. They are PR8 after all.
I have no idea whether or not this is true but I've never really seen the MPAA as an organization that is wanting an open discussion with the Internet community. - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17That's MAFIAA
- Padwah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I'm not sure what saving the HTML file would have actually achieved, all it would show is my code with all of the credits missing. I did take a few screengrabs of the site and the code which show where the copyright notices should be which you can see in the original article.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I have done my civic duty. I hate pirates. No really, I do.
- Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15If that were the case, why have they removed the blog from their site? ( as pointed out by otheruser above - http://www.mpaa.org/blog_default.asp gives a 404 )
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13submitted... now if only the local law enforcement had such a reporting tool
Too bad this won't make it to CNN, BBCNEWS etc. the world needs to know the MPAA makes mistakes (we.. I guess in their eyes, "are criminals") too. - skymt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Copyright violation, not plagiarism (or theft). Last I checked, the former is a criminal offense, the latter isn't.

- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13And everyone bitches about the "starving Britney Spears" not getting her $$ when someone pirates her crap songs --- and this guy is an average Joe, trying to make ends meet - the hypocrites sure do come out of the woodwork when "Britney is starving", but now a flicker when this guy is ripped off.

It would seem that the pirate site has stolen the "Forest Blog" code written by "Patrick Robin" and is using it in violation of the license under which it is distributed.
This is a serious violation and I hope you will take necessary steps to curb this rampant piracy. Hopefully we can shut down this thieving, pirating company for good. I know that's what you do best so I seriously hope you will live up to your convictions in this matter.
For more information about this violation, visit this publication:

" - srs23pitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"Should we have decided to make the move to production, then we would have paid the 25 Pounds that would have authorized us to run a version of the blog without the logos and links."
Isn't that like downloading a movie illegally, watching it, and deciding if you like it, you'll pay for it later? - Tippis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@ klawz
"Too bad this won't make it to CNN, BBCNEWS etc"
Try writing them -- it might not make a big splash, but these kinds of "entity goes against its own reason for existing" stories tend to be very popular, and quite often get accepted by publishers. - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16It's different! Downloading movies harms big, rich companies and is therefore bad, but pirating software just harms a few poor indie developers, and is therefore OK. It's all part of Microsoft Logic 2.0, DRM edition!
- elfinabout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Report of piracy submitted:
"I write to inform you that the MPAA used Patrick Robins Forest Blog software to run their primary blog, having stripped it of his name and all links to his site, without paying him for the privilege. This is contrary to his link licence and therefore a violation of his intellectual property rights. I hope these greedy, empire-building, hypocritical, morally bereft thugs are taken to task."

- skymt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I just checked Wayback, Google cache, and Coral, none of them have it.
- DietMountainDew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Everyone report it to CNN so they will do a story on it!!
