Him saying that doesn't have to mean he is jealous. There are other schools and students out there besides the students at MIT or harvard or princeton. There are a lot of smart and talented people at schools other than these big named universities that go unrecognized because they aren't legacy students, or their parents weren't rich enough to make a big donation to the school. Sure, there are many many smart and talented students at these big named universities that are and aren't in those two categories I meantioned, but they don't deserve all the attention. It's like people that don't go to these big named schools get overshadowed by the students who do. - abstractia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"For the students, it's a chance to kick the tires on the technology sector. Some have plenty of other options, including a career in consulting, working for influential and high-paying firms, such as Bain or McKinsey, said Paul Denning, spokesman for the Sloan School. But money won't be the only factor the students consider."
They misspelled "*****" as "consulting". Common typo. - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm not sure I understand why I should care. Maybe I should submit a link that talks about my alma mater. Maybe we all should. Wouldn't that be fun.
-Lame - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm...no *****. Do you think we'll see the same story on digg when June floats around, this year, next year and a few after that?? Its called college graduation and job hunting ya narb.
- djnick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just cuz dan submits it gets to the front page? laaame!
- islandjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hehee, just for that, I digg. :P
- shashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a sloanie (SM '05) myself, I think Sloan is vastly overrated. What makes MIT MIT is its engineering prowess, management school is at best mediocre.
BTW LOTS of Sloan/MIT grads do startup their own business, this comes from the hacker anti-establishment "up-yours" culture that pervades MIT. I cannot rememeber where I read this, but the wealth generated by MIT alums would make the 24th(?) larges economy in the world. - NidStyles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Umm, how many top name astro-physicists from MIT would want to go work in Silicon Valley, oh that's right, they don't have an astro-physics lab that's worth two ***** anymore. Sorry, I'll pass on reading the article.
no digg. - cwcentral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny that TFA is focused on Sloan, not the basic disclpines (i.e. CS, Engineering, Sciences). I mean if all the brightest at MIT are interested in "business opportunities", then consulting (i.e $$ and networking) is the name of the game currently.

not disagreeing with you that non-big-name-school students often don't get enough attention, but i think you should know that large donations and legacy don't matter as much as you think. Those two things will only get you in if you're already qualified. They won't take a dumb student just because his parents are rich bastards or his entire family went to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, etc. Though this doesn't mean that donations and legacy don't matter. Tons of qualified students apply to these schools each year and, unfortunately, these factors will separate you from the pack.
on a more relevant note, this is a pretty lame story. not really newsworthy. - koko775, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"***** sloanies... pampered little bastards... think they're the best. Best free food of anywhere at MIT, anyway."
Apparently you think you know everything about them, thus making you a hypocrite. You flame. FAIL GET.
I question the relevance of the article to most diggers, but that's no reason to hate MIT students.
Dugg anyway for Gordon Freeman (nah, actually because I like MIT) :P - penguindude15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the kids doing security will make a lot. Both Microsoft and apple need security on their new operating systems. and if the rumors are true, the new apple computers will have an extra chip that allows you to run windows. Might not be able to run long horn of whatever you call it but still. They will need something to isolate it for viruses unless they have something better...... Only time can tell though
- qishi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tomorrow on digg:
I'm looking for a new truck. Ford, Chevy? Foreign, domestic? I'll size 'em up. - b7j0c, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lets get one thing straight: your shiny degree will only get you your first job.
- hollywoodcole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why in the hell are MIT students looking at other companies, from all the money they paid for school they could group together and make a great company, with there parents as their VCs.
- danielson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I don't care what MIT grads are doing or going to be doing...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would care if I was one.
- karch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0someone's jealous.
- greesil, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0***** sloanies... pampered little bastards... think they're the best. Best free food of anywhere at MIT, anyway.
