    And I've been in the dev industry since the late 90s; online since '93. Hell, you could have started a business pre-eBay even if you sold items on USENET, like on rec.games.video.marketplace. I knew plenty who did, being some of the first bigtime game importers.

  • snoonan77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Don't know about this "weekend's work" kind of stuff, but I was able to get my site together spare nights and weekends over 2 months. The same thing would have taken a couple folks probably 3-6 months to get together plus a dedicated server or two. The avalability and value of free/cheap tools today is staggering.

    The problem today is more the amount of noise out there. Getting your audience to find you and competing for their attention is the real challenge.

  • wierdaaron, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Thanks to staples.com, cheap Dymo label printers, and being able to program my own php shopping cart and checkout system from scratch in 24 hours I was able to launch my own web business (www.electroidsco.com) making a profit from day 1.

    Well, digg,com, make: magazine, and popular science magazine helped.
