- Toast1185, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9And in a related story snow is cold
- Jubalicious, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Pssh burried as lame. I've learned everything I need to know about creating a sucessful start-up business from Mr. Brad Burns himself...
1. Have marketing efforts that will dominate your face.
2. ???
3. Profit! - kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You forgot have $75 million in farmland :).
- fuzzmeister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't forget blood and toil.
- saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Time spent easily makes up for the lack of money spent.
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My problem with web businesses is they always steal my ideas just before I was going to think of them.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I have the strangest urge for a Flaming Moe.
- gamathers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is expensive compared to another program which requires virtually no investment.
http://jdopportunity.blogspot.com/ - cbrack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And the legal fees. $125 is a joke compared to the hourly fees we pay for our attorney.
- vanadium77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Mmm, back in the 90s it was still $125 if you started a business on eBay. Buried as total BS.
And I've been in the dev industry since the late 90s; online since '93. Hell, you could have started a business pre-eBay even if you sold items on USENET, like on rec.games.video.marketplace. I knew plenty who did, being some of the first bigtime game importers. - Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget to stick it to the man!
- SuburbanDave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The only people that spent five million dollars starting a web based business were gullible suckers that had more money than brains.
- kurtu5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is he a hypocrite?
"I don't like X"
"I do X"
Nope, doesn't make him a hypocrite. Just the same as me saying "I don't like getting up to go to work, but I do anyway" doesn't make me one either. - duuk2k2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Buried
By adding your website URL to your post I decided to go to your website.
A quote from your website blog

>I've never really liked advertising. I don't know why, but I always thought it seemed either desperate or manipulative.
Any way you slice it....
You sir, either change your mind like your underwear or you are a hypocrite. - asics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What kind of business would you open in $125. If you need to open a proper business, you need a lot more than that. Though its cheaper than before. But not that cheap.

- markfaus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That mobile phone site isnt exactly raking in the traffic, what you need a million dollar server to run a website? maybe in case it gets dugg hahaha
- dhuck, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5yawn
you know when a newspaper prints it: it's old news. - PastorOfMuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had a $125 budget and I spent it on beer. Oh well guess I'll have to cancel that yacht order.
- ddn3d, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is ***** asinine. Buried.
- snoonan77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Don't know about this "weekend's work" kind of stuff, but I was able to get my site together spare nights and weekends over 2 months. The same thing would have taken a couple folks probably 3-6 months to get together plus a dedicated server or two. The avalability and value of free/cheap tools today is staggering.
The problem today is more the amount of noise out there. Getting your audience to find you and competing for their attention is the real challenge. - yellowsnowcone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This was the first story I have ever voted to bury, it was that lame.
- monkeybrainz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe i'm just cheap, but $125 a month seems a bit much.
- zanddr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Yea, that's what I thought when taking part in an off-shore small start-up doing web work. One guy involved is still living in the country because he can't afford to come back to US and live (slight exaggeration).
- wierdaaron, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Thanks to staples.com, cheap Dymo label printers, and being able to program my own php shopping cart and checkout system from scratch in 24 hours I was able to launch my own web business (www.electroidsco.com) making a profit from day 1.
Well, digg, com, make: magazine, and popular science magazine helped. - Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Tell us something we don't all know.
- theGOG, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2This is news how?
