dailymail.co.uk — How a generation of children are being raised online, spending 20 hours a week on the internet
- 594 diggs
- digg it
- coollettuce, on 03/24/2008, -6/+89***** the Daily Mail.
- aaapples, on 03/24/2008, -3/+16Seconded.
- bluezinc, on 03/24/2008, -1/+49Pshhh, 20 hours a week? n00bs.
- moletimer, on 03/24/2008, -1/+16I don't know why Daily Mail articles get submitted and dugg up on Digg. They are some of the most biased, retarded articles on the web.
- SSUK, on 03/24/2008, -1/+10According to the daily mail, we should all be dead by now, all poor and living on the moon... While dead. ***** them.
- markdr123, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5...and all because of knife-wielding, granny-mugging teenagers and eastern-European immigrants.
- Katnap, on 03/24/2008, -1/+8Agreed, it's a terrible news source. I'm surprised they didn't try to blame it on immigrants.
- widgetmaker, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4Didn't you hear, a Polish body has complained about the Daily Mail to the press complaints commission. They'll have to go a bit easier on them for a while.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 03/24/2008, -1/+5The internet does a fine job of raising children.
- overridemymind, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1Yeah! and that damn digg.com website doesn't help things either!
... wait...
...dammit
- Celeron, on 03/24/2008, -6/+71The internet raised me better than my parents ever did.
- VLiNi, on 03/24/2008, -5/+6***** ya, i learned so much from the internet. i would be really anti social without it actually.
- BelatedHero, on 03/24/2008, -6/+1WAT
- daza, on 03/24/2008, -5/+5Your parents probably pay for your Internet access. Show some respect. How many dinners has the Internet cooked for you?
- dndbakies, on 03/24/2008, -1/+12Seeing as how I've actually order Pizzas With cheese sticks and garlic sauce from Chuck wagon twice
2 The inretnet has so far cooked me 2 dinners.- sexybobo, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4Best part is making money from adsence then buying pizza with that money. Was a six month period where all food i ate was paid for by and ordered over the internet. (Found a grocery store that lets you order online and they deliver to your door.)
- dndbakies, on 03/24/2008, -1/+12Seeing as how I've actually order Pizzas With cheese sticks and garlic sauce from Chuck wagon twice
- doshindude, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4no, that would be the Nintendo.
- bonedead, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Haha, I was about to say, so this should be titled: "A lot of kids have to grow up just like you did!"
- nardo510, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1sounds like the cable guy which happens to be a good movie.
- VLiNi, on 03/24/2008, -5/+6***** ya, i learned so much from the internet. i would be really anti social without it actually.
- Azerael, on 03/24/2008, -6/+103Only 20 hours?
- Inv4der, on 03/24/2008, -1/+30My thought as well, iam online 5-8 hours daily. 50% is work, 25% is digg, rest is pr0n.
- TheLastFreeMan, on 03/24/2008, -0/+35Amateurs.
- theHive, on 03/24/2008, -1/+9Totally what I was thinking. The last 2 days I've only been on the internet (thankfully not much of that has been on myspace).
- CAPITALLETTERS, on 03/24/2008, -0/+21That's how much time I spend on the internet per day.
- sbraidley, on 03/24/2008, -1/+10I spend about 7 hour son a school night normally and more at weekends as theres so much on the internet you can never be bored.
- knde, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Someone actually said to me, "I can't stay on-line to long...it gets boring."
As you can imagine, I stared at him mouth agape...thinking "WTF??? How do you get bored on the internet???"
I then proceeded to send him an email filled with links of all the random sites I spend time on…I don’t think he’s convinced :-/- warplayer, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2I think either you have a capacity for it and you see the worth-whileness, or you don't.
- knde, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Someone actually said to me, "I can't stay on-line to long...it gets boring."
- TremorX, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6I know, I do like twice that in a day
- hotpuck6, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4real diggers don't sleep and spend 24/7 online, these kids need to step up their game if they want to compete.
- cricketsymphony, on 03/24/2008, -19/+140 comments + 44 digs = front page
- cricketsymphony, on 03/24/2008, -10/+4why is this dugg down? (honest question)
- phpchris, on 03/24/2008, -2/+13Because in most stories that hit the front page, there's usually someone who comments on either how it got there with so few diggs, or how it got there with no comments.
- cricketsymphony, on 03/24/2008, -5/+2so regardless of how true a comment like that is, it should be dugg down. never question the digg algorithm! i see now.
- DeathJux, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2I think you've just noticed that on the last few stories, as the weekend's been slow. I've seen them too, but you don't usually have people saying it because this place is pretty busy during the US day, which is, I'm sure, the biggest demographic.
- ZombieSociety, on 03/24/2008, -1/+6Why on Earth would you need to point out how many Diggs or comments there are in the first place? We can kind of see those things for ourselves.
- Dundasbro, on 03/24/2008, -1/+3Because no matter how many times it gets explained to them, people like yourself continue to question how something got to the front page like its a giant zionist conspiracy. It is an algorithm, it doesn't matter if your story gets 1000 diggs over 3 years, it might still never make it. The algorithm factors in how quickly something gets the diggs, a whole bunch of other variables and probably factors in how many new stories have hit the front page recently and in how many sections.
- phpchris, on 03/24/2008, -2/+13Because in most stories that hit the front page, there's usually someone who comments on either how it got there with so few diggs, or how it got there with no comments.
- cricketsymphony, on 03/24/2008, -6/+2in case it's not clear, there were 0 comments and 44 diggs at the time this went to the frontpage.
i know there are 3 [useless] comments above my own, but even those were not there when i submitted this comment. in the amount of time it took to "Please allow up to 60 seconds for your comment to be saved," 3 [useless] comments were posted before my own.- yogiincork, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3yes now there are 4 [useless] comments posted before MY own
- pandaro, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3also, it is not permissible to be questioning digg. if you can do it, then someone else is going to do it - and then where will we be?
- ZombieSociety, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1"If Andrew gets up, we'll all get up. IT'LL BE ANARCHY."
- TheLastFreeMan, on 03/24/2008, -0/+7Duh. Your math is wrong.
0 comments + Macbook + chicks = Digger wetdream - DeathJux, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1It's also a slow weekend, so maybe when digg isn't as busy, lower-interest stories hit the front page more because they're whatever percentage popular enough for the current online user count.
- DCUK, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1It's NewsCorp, just like they got found out paying for diggs, the Daily Mail at the moment are doing the same. Not noticed how all of a sudden there are loads of DM articles hitting digg. Last month there were 4 a day sometimes.
I called for Digg to ban all DM articles for this, but got dug down.- DCUK, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1See, here come the thumbs down.
NewsCorp are buying diggs, they already got found out. - Dundasbro, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2Of course you got ***** dugg down, the point of Digg is that its democratic. That doesn't mean banning certain links because you have a hissy fit about them and have paranoid delusions.
- DCUK, on 03/24/2008, -3/+1Fact: NewsCorp are buying diggs
- Dundasbro, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2Fact: If you don't have any ***** proof, then don't bother stating wild accusations just because you don't like a media company (here it comes, this is the part where you accuse me of being bought by Newscorp)
- DCUK, on 03/24/2008, -3/+1Fact: NewsCorp are buying diggs
- DCUK, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1See, here come the thumbs down.
- warplayer, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Kam Phong has his army of slaves clicking away.
- cricketsymphony, on 03/24/2008, -10/+4why is this dugg down? (honest question)
- cricketsymphony, on 03/24/2008, -6/+83i'd totally do both of them
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -0/+18i would toss their salad
- VLiNi, on 03/24/2008, -9/+1lol you're sick.....but its true.....damn you hormones.....
- woofers07, on 03/24/2008, -0/+19you're totally gonna have a seat over there.

- chibimmy, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11This comment brought you by Irony.
- Archer007, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5How ir.... no I'm not gonna say it!
- Saea, on 03/24/2008, -1/+5Hmm... no older then 17 looking, lets hope you are no older then 21.
- sexybobo, on 03/24/2008, -1/+120 years old my friend in my state (Missouri) 14 year olds are still legal for me.
- cannonball, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3at the same time
- Nextrix, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1Good, but it too bad these "two girls" is actually 1 hair old guy getting his whack on.
- hotpuck6, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3well, according to the article, you might have to wrestle them off their computers first.
- uziko, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1i would wrestle with them, with lots of rubbing
- medledan, on 03/26/2008, -0/+2oh yes id have a threesome with em....
- pandaro, on 03/24/2008, -7/+520 seems conservative.
- zephyear, on 03/24/2008, -5/+4620 hours ain't *****
- Mizumi, on 03/24/2008, -12/+320 hours....
hahahahaha... idiots.... - hardcorestar, on 03/24/2008, -2/+12And this so called generation that thrives on the internet will do things that previous generations could only dream of, a world without digg? I would want no part in it
- GeoMod, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3It's better than the amount of time my parents spent in front of the TV. I'd rather be raised by the internet than the Television.
- ed3r, on 03/24/2008, -2/+31And if they weren't on the internet, they would be doing what hmm? ... TV most likely, and we all know how great that is.
Also: "Kids know more about the technologies than adults. They are using them more and they understand how to use them."
THE TECHNOLOGIES, THEY KNOW HOW TO USE THEM.- Jaziek, on 03/24/2008, -0/+21HOLY CRAP THEY KNOW MORE ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGIES THAN WE DO!! DESTROY THEM!! BURN THEM!!
- hardcorestar, on 03/24/2008, -7/+0the internet should be seen as a tool of abstinence, I know those girls would be doing something a lot more and it's not tv if you know what I mean *wink*
- AntzNZ, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Playing Wii? At other guys houses?
- lotsa1s, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1If digg is any example of this it is clearly working.
- MoofTheStoof, on 03/24/2008, -0/+10Yeah, I prefer my kids' time being spent on the interactive internet over the passive TV. There's dodgy content on both, but at least the internet is a bit more of an intellectual workout.
- screwfanboys1, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6lol tell that to MY parents
they'll be watching some garbage tv or something and then be like
SAM WTF ARE YOU DOING ON THAT COMPUTER ALL THE TIME YOU'VE BEEN ON IT FOR LIEK 30 MINUTES NOW!!!1
- screwfanboys1, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6lol tell that to MY parents
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -2/+44Dugg for the superhot girls in the picture.

- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -1/+14i'd lick both their asses
- westhepirate, on 03/24/2008, -0/+3at the same time
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -1/+14i'd lick both their asses
- machocheese34, on 03/24/2008, -1/+21why don't you have a seat over there...
- Celeron, on 03/24/2008, -1/+30Those chicks are hot. Hope that doesn't mean I'm a pervert. :)
- Jenadae, on 03/24/2008, -1/+18No, just a pedo....
- int10h, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1More like a hebephile (possibly)
- al11588, on 03/24/2008, -2/+0a what? I had to google the meaning. Thx for being a dick.
- int10h, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1More like a hebephile (possibly)
- Jenadae, on 03/24/2008, -1/+18No, just a pedo....
- inobla, on 03/24/2008, -1/+6Some of the biggest Myspace addicts I know are in their 20's and 30's. (I know what you're thinking, but they're not *all* unemployed losers.) The draw of social networks is fairly universal. Teenagers generally have more time available to get sucked into the *****. Plus they've never known a world without it...
- Lastgreatwar, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1I usually browse myspace when I'm bored as hell at work, and I'm in my 20's. Otherwise, I really dont go on it at home.
- fwertz, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2"Lost in Diggnation"
"How certain remaining baby boomer's remain static in their attempts to shun the advancements of technological interdependency while also using embarrassing statistics to attempt to insult the latter" - Khaless, on 03/24/2008, -2/+2Wow, the Internet is so easy to blame for our social problems. Partly because you can post the complaint to the internet and all the sympathizers get to read it and agree in their own stupid way. Oh, and you can quite easily ignore all the people that disagree with you. Yay
- Mizumi, on 03/24/2008, -1/+15I expected a poor misinformed article from the Daily Mail....
Found a poor misinformed article from the Daily Mail - JuniorVX, on 03/24/2008, -1/+2Adults do the same thing but doing other things what's the problem?
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -3/+17Those girls are like probably the hottest girls i've ever ***** seen, wow.
- blakeinstereo, on 03/24/2008, -0/+16you haven't been on the internet long enough
- Aensland, on 03/24/2008, -1/+8Time to use MySpace's search function...
- AntzNZ, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8srsly? google more.
- TheRealToma, on 03/24/2008, -1/+3Id rather be bought up with a greater freedom of choice and more sources of news than any commercial TV station can provide.
- DynamicSurge, on 03/24/2008, -2/+13The FBI will be coming to my door. I just clicked the link, might as well use the picture usefully.
- Jaziek, on 03/24/2008, -2/+14"leaving their mobile phones on all night in case they receive a text message." ... and the problem with doing that is...............
- Sandurz, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Apparently just using your phone is a sign of the times. A sign of these horrible times, where teenagers just have a ***** of free time.
- Lastgreatwar, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2I dont even have a house phone. My boyfriend and I both have our separate cell phones, and they are always on. I'm not sure why that is a bad thing.
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -10/+3I want to smell those girls asses, i'm getting a hard on just thinking about it.
- dustko, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4Wrong site, asswipe.
- GDOG5, on 03/24/2008, -1/+22"With millions left to surf the web on their own, 57 per cent of children have seen online pornography, most of it accidentally in the form of "pop-up" adverts."
I totally agree. These kids are being subject to advertising porn. This is unacceptable, we must protect our kids from these rip off artists and show them where all the free porn sites are!- moletimer, on 03/24/2008, -0/+9These people need Firefox.
- SSUK, on 03/24/2008, -0/+5Or at least IE7. We'll worry about getting them off IE altogether later.
- AntzNZ, on 03/24/2008, -0/+557%?? 100% of guys (obviously), so that makes it that 7% of chicks visit porn...
- AntzNZ, on 03/24/2008, -0/+23.5% actually.
- moletimer, on 03/24/2008, -0/+9These people need Firefox.
- VLiNi, on 03/24/2008, -6/+0LOL wtf...."socalled "happy slapping" attacks"
- poploserdigg, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0I'd rather see these two girls in the "Slap Happy" video.
- NinjaPirateDude, on 03/24/2008, -1/+8im 14 and honestly use the internet for everything i could possibly use it for, such as entertainment, communication with friends who are away and keeping up with the news. there is nothing wrong with kids being exposed to a fair community where it doesn't matter who you are, people will still see your opinion.
oh and i only use myspace as a time-waster.......plus its pretty crap. - Ignitedude, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11"leaving their mobile phones on all night in case they receive a text message."
And this is new?- Borgcube, on 03/24/2008, -2/+7Omg, they're using cell-phones the way they are intended and made for, not turning them off everytime they don't need it! Why they must be ADDICTS!
- abbathdoom, on 03/24/2008, -0/+4Remind me to unplug my land line before I go to bed. I'd hate to be considered a land line addict.
- Brymcon, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2i wasn't aware i was supposed to turn my phone off because i was sleeping thanks
- getrealnow, on 03/24/2008, -2/+12ANOTHER 20 HOUR JOKE LOL
- redogishere, on 03/24/2008, -1/+15the people who wrote this are just jealous because they didnt have porn to look at when they were 16
WHOS WITH ME - dshey, on 03/24/2008, -2/+1I don't know if I'm more scared about the generation that's coming up, or the generation that already is.
- getrealnow, on 03/24/2008, -2/+22"As the Daily Mail revealed last week, one simple suggestion will be that computers are positioned in shared areas of homes, such as living rooms, rather than bedrooms. That would allow parents to monitor the internet sites being viewed and video games being played by their children"
***** THAT I LIKE PORN - rtilford, on 03/24/2008, -2/+4and as usual the digg crowd misses the point.
- indiandudeo, on 03/24/2008, -4/+2The girl on the right is ***** hot.
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1are you blind? they are both equally goddesses
- indiandudeo, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1The one on the left isnt nearly as good as the one on the right.
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1yes she is
- indiandudeo, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1The one on the left isnt nearly as good as the one on the right.

- uziko, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1for reals man they are equally AMAZINGLY HOT!!!!
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1are you blind? they are both equally goddesses
- andersonwill, on 03/24/2008, -1/+6only 20 hours?
- DiggLive, on 03/24/2008, -1/+11I'd wreck those two.
*takes a seat over there* - moletimer, on 03/24/2008, -1/+10Myspace is a ***** that needs wiping out.
- medledan, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1i HATE myspace...i wasted so much time on that ***** when i was younger
- nappymonster, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1120 hours? Is that all?
- rockrapdude, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1Well then there the partying and going to school and hanging' on the phone, yelling at their parents. It leaves very "little" time for MySpaceing.
- SSUK, on 03/24/2008, -0/+8So, it's some how worse for kids to spend 20 hours on a PC, reading, learning, socialising, instead of sitting infront of a TV, watching mind-numbing American sitcoms and ***** programs which are in abundance on TV, especially on freeview and Channel 4 and 5? Oh right, because there isn't porn on TV... Oh wait, Freeview channel 97, Television X/REDHOT, which has a 10 minute free preview every day.
***** the Daily Mail, scare mongering middle class *****. - AntzNZ, on 03/24/2008, -1/+7What a faggy article.
- medledan, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1agreed
- leonwehttam, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6happy slap?
- widgetmaker, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2British thing, basically attacking a random strange in the streets and filming it
- screwfanboys1, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1some of them looked pretty harmless others not so much
- medledan, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1your telling me man....
- Ellrick, on 03/24/2008, -0/+6Oh no, how will the kids become brainwashed jingoistic Americans without the tv brainwashing them!~?
- bjamoliver, on 03/24/2008, -1/+0That would be me then...
- uziko, on 03/24/2008, -6/+1i bet their asses would taste and smell yummy, and their pussies of course, pretty girls
- RenoDakota, on 03/24/2008, -0/+1More gaming by the daily mail. Remember they just want your page views; don't give them the satisfaction.
- myass666mlong, on 03/24/2008, -0/+2and ? whts the problem ?oo something better to do ? i dont think so ;)
- SysstemLord, on 03/24/2008, -1/+1I couldn't find the video "Girl Beat Up In Street"
Anybody has a link? - myyuckyhouse, on 03/24/2008, -3/+0what would you like gain?
- poploserdigg, on 03/24/2008, -3/+1Tomorrow's Headline: Majority of Digg Users Spend 20 Hours Looking for Bikini Pics of Girls in Myspace Story
- buddamus, on 03/24/2008, -3/+6Myspace sucks
- MikeonTV, on 03/24/2008, -3/+3Only 20 hours a week? I am Rick Rolled 20 hours a week!
- radink360, on 03/24/2008, -6/+2I hate the dailymail.
But I have to say this. Alot of these kids are on myspace and other social sites so they can hide alot of stuff from their parents. At least you know if they are watching tv, they aren't posting 1/2 naked pictures of themselves for the world to see. Plus what ever happned to picking up the phone to talk to your friends? It seems like teens are hiding behind the screen and not being themselves because it's easier to hide from being an ass online than it is in person. -
