- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Too complex. Thanks, you made my kids cry.
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30The lines are actually kind of neat. There's a fair bit of activities like animatronic characters and scenic tableaus, plus the signs stating the estimated length of the wait are purposefully overexaggerated by about 20% to make you feel good about moving through them so quickly.
It's friggin Disneyland! It's the best amusement park in the world! Enjoy it, dammit! At least go to Epcot - it's "educational" - javajunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15So much negativity! Sheesh!
One thing to understand, if you go during peak periods, there will be lines! It's been this way since opening day in 1955.
My best experience was during the off season, on a slightly drizzly day. There was under 10K in the park. I remember being in the New Orleans Square area and looking across to the Frontierland area (where the Mark Twain Steamboat docks), and not seeing a single person. Really!
So if you go during holidays or in the Summer. There will be lines. Get used to it. Arrive early, go on the hot rides first. Then spend the middle part of the day doing other stuff besides going on the same 12 rides the other 50K people are trying to go on. There is so much more to Disney theme parks then rides! - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15for those who want to see it but noticed it takes 20 minutes to load I did the waiting for you

lol looks like tons of people have now replied with cached copies... oh well - Infobahn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Disney Geek here. It's funny that Mouseplanet hit the Digg effect, as it is a pretty beefy site as I have known it (It's a popular site in the Disney community)
If you haven't been there lately, using the book "The Unofficial Guide to WDW" will save you tons of time. We go again in the beginning of December (a slow time, as are the last two weeks in Jan, first two weeks in Feb), and I have never waited more than 10 minutes for anything. - Yankees368, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14If you ever want to finish every ride in a park like six flags, follow this very simple rule.
Get to the park at opening, RUN to the newest and greatest ride that has opened last that everyone wants to go on, everyone will go to that first. Since you are finished with this ride before anyone else, you have a short window where everyone who enters the park will be going to the newest ride, leaving all other rides empty for the most part. I rode every roller coaster in Six Flags Great Adventure in 2 hours with this method. - toad3k, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21When I was a kid, we lived near a Six Flags amusement park, and it was easy to get to the head of any line. All you had to do was bring a wheelchair and have one of your friends sit in it.
- Akyan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Talk about squeezing the system for every last drop.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Bastard! I knew those wheel-chaired line-cutters were faking!
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Blizzard Beach is part of Disney World...

- manitcor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Growing up in Florida and working for the evil rat for a year during HS taught me one thing. DO NOT EVER attempt to do everything in the parks in one trip. Its just simply impossible, Most families who try to end up running themselves ragged and never really enjoying the parks. Remember you are on vacation RELAX, take your time. I worked at Disney for a year and had free access to any disseny park anytime I pleased and for the first 5 months of my employment I was on one property or another during my 2-3 days off and sometimes even after shifts.
In all that time I still never got around to doing everything and I had the ability to skip lines since I could go in va back stage.
Think about that.
5 months x average of 8 days off a month = 40days - not including extra days, and time after work.
In 40 days I never saw everything the Orlando parks had to offer. And that was only Disney. That didn't include Sea World (now 2 parks), bush gardens in Tampa or the 2 universal parks.
I grew up in Florida and go back once or twice a year and things change so much year to year its just too much trouble to even keep up with everything that changes.
Just enjoy your trip, take your time and don't push to do everything. Remember, how many times in your life are you going to have your entire family in a semi-exotic location for a week or more with really nothing to do but spend time with each other?
And remember, there's more to these locations than what the rat has to offer. Many times there are other attractions that are just as amazing and fun. The Orlando science center is great fun for the kids and has a lot of cool exhibits that are unique to Florida. The Kennedy space center is no longer a collection of rockets. There are rides and huge imax theaters as well as a load of guided tours. There's air boat and lake tours all over the state. Not to mention some of the best scuba diving locations in the US.
Do you and your family a favor, spend that time with each other and enjoying your time, not on a mission to get as much mouse as you can.
I guarantee you'll enjoy your trip more and so will your family. - dlichteman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The coral cahce is up

- NGliam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I went a couple of months ago - the longest we waited in line was 30 minutes, and it was definitly worth it.
- jarrodtrainque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Agreed. I went to Disneyworld a few months ago and rarely waited more than 30 mins. The last time I went it was before Fastpass was introduced, and I recall waiting forever for merely decent rides like Splash Mountain.
What I've found works best is to always get a Fastpass for any ride with longer than 30 minutes wait, and then go enjoy a less in-demand ride. If your timing is right, your Fastpass window for the 1st ride will open up just as the time-filler ride ends. Before going on your next ride, carefully choose another ride and grab a fastpass for that one. Then just continue the process of making reservations and filling the gaps.
It's really easy, especially since most rides have an estimated wait time posted. It's just a question of time management and estimating wait times. Most GTD'ers/Lifehackers/diggsters will have it down to a science after a few hours.
Oh, and by the way... I went to Disneyworld expecting lame water-boat rides, singing cartoon characters, etc. I was wrong... there's some pretty awesome rides there, including:
- Mission: Space (centifuge, space simulator - awesome!)
- Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (free-fall drop)
- Expedition Everest (new roller coaster)
- Animal Kingdom Safari (real animals!)
- Space Mountain, Aerosmith, and all the other roller coasters
I'd go back more often... if it wasn't RIDICULOUSLY expensive. - U2groupie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You want to know the real secret to doing ANY theme park (or other busy area you're going to have to wait in line or deal with crowds at?). Navigate through the park clockwise. For instance, when you first enter, go to the left, not the right. When you have to choose from multiple lines, choose the ones on the left, not the right. For example at Disney's Magic Kingdom, everyone is going to head straight down Main St. and straight into Fantasyland or to the right and go to Tomorrowland. If you go LEFT, you're going to go to Adventureland. Get to the park at opening and you can have Adventureland to yourself. I once went at opening and had Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square nearly to myself.
BTW, this logic works just about anywhere. I always get in the lines on the left at the grocery store and get out of there long before other people. Even if you just have one item and can justifiably use the "10 items or less" lines, the lines on the left go much faster.
I learned about this several years ago in a psychology class, but I'm too lazy to look up any reference to it right now. - chewbaccapits, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Used this info over the weekend and it works pretty good...I wonder how long this could last...
- brix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@spyrochaete - Epcot is Disney World, not Disneyland.
- Trinitrogen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Reminds me of when me and my friend went for new years, every so often one of the fast pass machines broke and just starting spitting tickets out like crazy. We'd get as many as we could, then come back at the designated time and give the spare ones to cute girls in line. There's your life hack.
- Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@ Epcot is educational
Especially if by "educational" you mean "get to drink really expensive beers in tiny national enclaves."
Note that I'm not dissing it. Being loaded at Epcot and watching the Revolutionary War parade go by was fantastic. - jjallday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My wife is a Disney lunatic. In fact, we got married at Disney World and usually go back every two years or so. That being said, once you've been there once or twice, you learn how to work the system...this is probably only good for the noobs.
- Infobahn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In the MK, aside from the ones in carpet, drapes, whatever, I think the number is 114, but it is a moving target as they are Hidden, and meant to be found,
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah they have... but even the cached pages are taking forever to load... So thanks.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At least there's something to do in line at Disney, unlike the lines at Great America. :P
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea, I knew I'd get a big thumbs down from all the Disney fans, but it's all good, I understand the passion with the park. I'm part of it. BTW, for some KILLER old attraction videos, check out my friend Dave and his work at www.extinct-attractions-club.com , he has some excellent old footage. Anyone remember Adventure thru Inner Sex... errr.. I mean, Space? ;) ha!
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Long lines at Disney remove any desire to go there at all.
- shagybones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6As a former Disney cast member, I know all you have to do to get another Fastpass is ask. They will give you as many as you want.
I usually just hit the override button to save time. If there is a cast member there, just hit it and they wont say anything.
My favorite was going to machines that were "off" and lifting up the cover to print a bunch of them. - mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg effect, even the mirrors are slowing down.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I "live" by a six flags and they are nothing special... actually they are terribly mis-managed wastes of money....
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5OK, Disney Geek, how many hidden mickeys are there in Magic Kingdom?
- Adamesq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is one of the funniest threads I've read here. WDW is awesome. It's always clean and always takes you into its own world. I've never had a bad trip. A few years back, some penny pinching on painting and landscaping seemed to be going on, but that was only apparent on one trip. There are plenty of rides and things to do that you don't need to spend your time concentrating on fast pass. As long as you're not trying to fit the whole trip into 1 day, you're fine (as someone else mentioned). Go on the rides during the parade. Just make sure you're in the general area of the rides you want so that you don't get cut off & have to take a long route (if you don't know how to work the paths already). You guys that say your Disney fanatics that go every year or 2...hehe...local Disney fans are there several times/year. I really have to check out more of Orlando! Now that their economy is finally improving, maybe consider a move. LOL on tigger2's comments - awesome!
- Bobwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I was last in Disneyworld, my friends and I were playing some Disney trivia game and we couldn't think of the name of the chick from Atlantis. So we asked one of the cast members and they didn't know either, so they gave us a free fastpass for space mountain, which was no longer offering fastpasses. It was AWESOME.
- raitchison, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I haven't been to Disneyland in more than 10 years (and I live in SoCal) mainly because of the lines. We will probably go this year, though are planning on going during the week (like a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) while school is still in session in an effort to minimize the line factor.
- lilricky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't cry over it, there is an easier way to get as many fastpass tickets as you like for as many attractions you want. First, look for fastpass machines that are not monitored closely by an employee, as this, while not being illegal, is something the Mouse frowns upon. Now that you're at a fastpass station insert your ticket into the machine, it spits out a fastpass, now reach around to the left rear top of the machine and feel for a button, reinsert your ticket, it will complain about how you already have a fastpass for this attraction, press the button, now some machines require one and some two button presses. This is an override that the employees use to deal with tickets that do not scan. Get as many as you like, you can use the same technique to get other attractions' fastpasses while you hold another attraction fastpass. I have only tested this in Walt Disney World in Orlando, it may not work in California.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's a lot of things wrong with Disneyland, but go to another theme park and you'll realize how good Dland really is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3time saved from hack lost on reading long exhausting how-to...
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The best way to avoid all this is to go one week *before* summer vacation or holiday season starts in April
or one week *after* vacation ends usually around Sep 1st week or so and it'll be great
My wife and I went to Disneyworld March 24 - April 2 and WOW! No lines, no nothing. Easy entry to all rides/attractions with minimal crowd.
After March 31, the crowds started to rise and it became a nightmare the April 1st weekend.
Still the trick is to finish your disney trip just before the peak season starts, one week before is enough - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I am native Floridian and an Orlando resident. I can tell you the best way to get unlimited rides.
At Universal Studios Florida you can get lineless non-stop rides on either coaster Dueling Dragons or The Hulk April-May and September-November on Wednesdays after 9pm 'til park close.
At Seaworld Orlando you can ride Sheekra non-stop April-May on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:30pm 'til park close.
At Walt Disney World you can ride Space Mountain or Thunder Mountain non-stop in May for a half hour 8:30pm 'til park close. - chewbaccapits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Submitter is chewbaccapits...Me....Yea...I agrre with your statement, Disney is the better amusement park, but it attracts the most tourist anywhere.....Even with the fastpass system in place, on the weekend, it is really hellish...I just thought this would be a better tool to use to maximize your experience at the park......Some families don't have the luxury of paying 50 some odd dollars only to get stuck in long lines......
- MrRockabilly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, I agree. It is like that no matter where you go; museum, theme park, make out spot, etc . . . go during peak hours/days and its going to suck. I live close to D-Land here in Cali, and the best time to go is February on a Wednesday. Empty! The line for the Indiana ride was 6 minutes! 6! It took longer to walk to through the temple than it did to get on the ride.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Best method: Stay at a Universal Studios hotel (well, at least at one in Florida). Get in an hour early (as you do at Disney). Plus you can get a "unlimited" fast pass (or whatever they call it). No more lines.
Although, in reality, the line for Dueling Dragons and some of the other rides are kind of neat. It kind of ruined the excitement of getting on some of the rides. - cidkato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The world needs more of you. Thanks.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That Aerosmith rollercoaster is pretty sweet. Last time we were there we bounced back and forth between it and the Tower of Terror (or whatever it's called). Very fun.
- NGliam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, thats pretty much what we did - get a pass and then go do something else (eat, another ride, a show, whatever) then go to the other ride. We had a fortnight though, so we weren't really in any rush :)
Those rides were amazing - Space: Mountain was the first ride we went on and we only had to wait 10 minutes - good start to a holiday! While we were on the safari, one of the elephants was kidnapped so we had to go rescue it - kinda cut the safari short but it was worth it. - jpturner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If anyone has to put this much thought into visiting a "fun" theme park it is no longer ANY FUN! Not to mention the mind numbing waiting in the heat. The last time I was at Disney my wife got her ass grabbed by some perv as we were watching a brass band perform. The whole theme park thing is a joke, stress full, expensive and too many pervs checking out your family. Pack lunch and take the kids to the mountains (National Park or beach) - much better!
- billflu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I always used the button on the back of the machine when I could.
- Zedizdead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would not go as far as saying he's a communist but the guy who wrote it is somewhat of an anti Disney guy. Especially California Adventure. He finds every single anti Disney article he can find and posts it on every Disney fan site. He posted pictures of burnt out light bulbs and then rags on the company because they didn't fix it fast enough for his liking.
The thing is, Hard Core Disneyland Fans HATE fastpass. Because they feel it makes the park feel more crowded. They can't stand the fact the normal people are walking around their beloved park. They want as many people as possible to hack the fastpass system. Because then if everybody was doing it, then Disney would be forced to remove the machines. That's what they want.
Of course this stuff comes up every summer. To them it's not the busy summer season that makes Disneyland busy. It's Fastpass and Annual Passholders. Don't believe me? Read the boards.
Fun Stuff. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Holidays
Unfortunately, this does not apply to the Magic Kingdom @ Disney World (Florida). I went on the 4th of July, it was raining a little, yet it was the most crowded I've EVER seen at any Disney Park. I was not sure of EPCOT though, I didn't go that day. -
