- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I like big booties and I can not lie
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I run a cable contracting company, and it's a lot to demand that every tech is able to adapt to every set-up. These are the same guys that crawl in crawlspaces, sweat in attics, and climb poles. You don't get a lot of guys with MCSE certification that last past the first crawlspace. These guys have to deal with grandma's running Windows ME with 64 megs of RAM and completely choked with spyware. Even worse is the elitist prick with his home network running on Linux that he wants the cable to guy set-up.
These guys get paid piece work, even though you have the same router they provide, he doesn't get paid to hook up your router. When you order the cable modem itself he is responsible for one computer, he just wants to get his IP address to prove it working and bolt. If a guy is knowledgeable in Windows, Mac, linux, and Unix then he'll find another job. - joshuba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/26/technology/26service.html?ei=5088&en=447ba3a2bc56be63&ex=1314244800&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&pagewanted=print
- stevew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maybe I'm skeptical but this seem's like a gimmic. There's a lot more to customer service than wearing booties when they come out.
When I had cable come out and hook my internet up the tech guy gave me crap because i was running linux and tried to imply that comcast would have issues with it. Comcast wants to install their own branded IE and bloatware when they come out on windows. I pointed out to the installer that out they had to do was register the MAC address of my cabe modem and whether I used a Mac, linux, or even a Unix-based system was irrelevant.
Tech also gave me ***** about having a router and I pointed out that I used it because of the firewall ability built into it and that they provided the very same router to customer's that subscribed to their network package option.
They could improve their service by educating the people that install and provide support and making sure that they actually understand technology. - Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Linking to an advertisement??? That's pretty ***** lame.
- TheThirdWheel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's actually an OSHA violation, never heard of anyone being fined for taking off their shoes but it's a rule. Most of my techs take off their shoes, but many actually wear the booties we provide. We still spend a few grand a year in carpet cleaning expenses for when techs forget.
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cox has always been pretty good with regard to service. Of course I pay the SAP charge except that I get my moneys worth. Not to mention the fact that some of the cable guys are, well, very handsome fellows. I bet the female customers just love that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2are these companies keen to improve their image or are they tired of getting sued for damaging customer's floors?
- Gazpacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wonder if that is the service that wiped out my boyfriend's roommate's (I feel silly saying that considering the degrees of separation) firewall, removed her anti-virus program, and reset her browser settings. Apparently, the service guy never even said he was going to do it. Don't get me wrong, I do not want this to sound like I think all Comcast tech guys do this... ...just this one.
- fohf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually made the cable guy take his boots off before entering my apartment so these booties are a pretty good idea.
- pgup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sweeeeeeeeeet
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Doubleback, he meant that the WHOLE ARTICLE is an advertisment. You didn't see it because you're blind.
- ladrummer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I worked for Time Warner in Ohio and those booties saved me a lot of hassle when it was muddy outside and my only alternative would have been to take off my boots. They look ridiculous, but so does a yellow safety vest, hardhat, and tool belt.
- tepster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why don't they just take off their shoes and walk in their socks? Will it stink to much? The phone and cable guys in my city always take off their shoes without asking.
- Cryptopsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I do TV/internet/phone instalations and I just take my boots off, unless I have to work in a grungy basement.
- sdubois92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whats the point of the booties?
- agpc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Riiight. Service.
Here is an idea for Time Warner Houston Road Runner, which I recently cancelled. Stop overselling your nodes and allowing your cable modem service to go down during prime time. Then, when I call your technical support 5 times in a row, don't tell me that its due to weather when its not raining, or even better - that its because there are a lot of car crashes in the area that somehow caused my service to not work every night between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M.
Also, don't tell me that I am the only one experiencing the problem when I have spoken with numerous people who go through the same thing.
After you fix all that, perhaps I will give kudos for using "booties." - green1152, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about lowering the $50 I have to pay for something so outdated?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2For an alternative view of QWest customer service:

It could be cultural or it can be simply a way to keep the floors cleaner. When you think about how many public restrooms your shoes have been in, you'd at least think twice too.
Comcast technicians have always had those booties in their truck whenever they came to my house for service. It makes sense and keeps everyone happy. The homeowner has their clean floors and the tech doesn't have to remove his/her shoes.
When I switched to FiOS, the tech guys just took off their shoes. However, I'm sure that's some kind of safety violation for them to not wear shoes while they are working. - aluminumpork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Informative article. In personal experience, I've always had good luck with Qwest customer server, especially recently. Charter on the other hand has not been doing too well. It's good to see that they may be finally realizing that customer service is extremely important in the overall customer experience.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2i agree. i work at comcast, and it seems like they just hire out of the unemployment office. "Ok we will take you, you, and you". And alot of reps and techs are just complete idiots.
- trumpetr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0don't worry, you'll be getting comcast soon.... Have fun with that one
- acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I dugg your first post up, because you were right.
I dugg your second post down, because you were a jackass.
Seriously, getting dugg well into the basement makes a comment more likely to be read by me, not less. kwitchyerbitchin. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yay, another post gets modded to oblivion because I mentioned the link to an ad.
Yes, moderators, my mind control machine is working perfectly. In fact, you will now digg this into oblivion as well. - acceptab1euname, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1agreed. that's why I just marked the article as inaccurate.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0 work for comcast, and we are trying some pilot program, where we have tech's that will work on computers with unspported problems, like spyware and stuff. Its still in the beta stage but costs $30 for a visit and it covers everything, i really disagree with this becuase we don't belong trying to compete with GeekSquad, its all about the $$ to evil corporations. So basically, we already have X of tech's that serve and area that we are already backed up on, and we are taking away tech's and making service calls further out for our problems to be fixed. Way to go comcast!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Way to link to an advertisement. Marked as lame.
