- lofilotek, on 10/16/2008, -2/+26hmmm 35$ per share via MS or barely 13$ a share today. I bet someone is punching them self in the balls!
- techguru2006, on 10/16/2008, -1/+24Yang = Terrible CEO.
- EASwanson, on 10/17/2008, -0/+19Newsflash: Companies are going to be laying off a lot of people in order to stay afloat in the upcoming recession/depression. Also Jerry Yang is an idiot for not selling the company to Microsoft for 33$/share when he had the chance. Yahoo traded as low as $11.37 today
- rowlodge, on 10/17/2008, -1/+17you're fired,
have a happy new year - FaceDog, on 10/17/2008, -3/+193500 people still work for Yahoo?

- ronaldmonster, on 10/17/2008, -0/+8Lost jobs aren't something to joke about...
- GinaJuice, on 10/17/2008, -1/+8They should cut the CEO's jobs. If they didn't want be bought up by another company, for whatever reason, WHY THE ***** DID THEY GO PUBLIC? They just slapped the face of anyone who invested in that company. I'd be so pissed of if I was a shareholder.
- bjornski, on 10/16/2008, -4/+11Ya-hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+6Dear ladies and gentlemen, time to short sell Yahoo! Inc. (Public, NASDAQ:YHOO)
It's $12.99 right now, I say it will go under $10 tomorrow - bjornski, on 10/17/2008, -1/+6Because it's a panic move. They've been making stupid decisions, and not innovating, for a long time.
Their model is failing. Not taking the MS money was stupid. - BBrains, on 10/17/2008, -0/+5Wouldn't be wise. Microsoft is probably going to make a bid, and they'll bid well over market to make it easy for shareholders to approve.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4Or someone's balls are getting punched....

Alexa is a measurement only of the rankings of websites that STUPID PEOPLE go to. Alexa gets data because people have their ***** ass toolbars installed in IE. Alexa is not, and should never ever be considered a credible source for tracking web stats. - rowlodge, on 10/17/2008, -1/+5that sucks
- Riggo, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4True Dat.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+4Well Alexa does use more sophisticated techniques of monitoring web traffic than just its IE toolbar. While its not an entirely accurate source of analyzing web traffic, its still a fairly accurate random sample of the average population.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3Its not like its the number one most used website in the world or anything
http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?ts_mode=glo ... - bjornski, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3That will ensure more spending on presents, won't it?
It's going to be a brutal holiday season. Many stores will go under or be bought out.
It will be interesting to read the numbers in January. - inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't want to make 50k instead of 100k.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3Well Microsoft is not going to make a bid tomorrow right before weekend.
If this rumor is solid, stock is going down for sure. - isukeyo, on 10/17/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately, that's irrelevant - Yahoo is a publicly traded company who is obligated to it's shareholders to make decisions that will garner profits. Also, whatever Yahoo's plans are and however they differ from Microsoft's, Yahoo has been slowly drowning for a long time. It has no clear long term strategies and is completely unable to keep up with Google, despite that it has a significantly higher user base. Yang has been a terrible leader for the company and clearly does not know how to bring the company out of it's current stink. Whatever Yahoo's plans are - they are irrelevant at this point.
- kmb1794, on 10/16/2008, -2/+5Yah-whooooo?
- mahadiga, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2If N employees voluntarily cut off their salaries by 50% they can prevent N/2 lay offs.

- no2gates, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2They must have management styles like AIG
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Well unless you are an engineer, start looking for another job... just in case, you know? 25 - 50% chances are pretty high
- mediabaron, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2Make sure you bring some Ziplocs to the party, maybe a few Nalgene bottles too if they have an open bar.

You are short of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compassion - mathcreative, on 10/17/2008, -1/+3You are correct from the econmic stand point. But yahoo and microsoft were to fastly different companies. Their ideals were competely different
- JackpotCity, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2They are not being laid off, they're defecting to Microsoft.
- inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2From employee: "Attention Sue, Jerry & Blake:
Employees are desperate for some sort of communication regarding these rumors. Newsflash: people are not anywhere near motivated when all signs suggest their jobs are at risk and mangaement insists on remaining hidden and silent.
Please grow some balls and find a modicum of leadership ability. Tell employees (yes, the same one you begged to to stick with you through the "fight" with Microsoft) who's in and who's out and be done with it!
You're simply letting everyone from employees to investors down by delaying the inevitable. Don't expect a killer Q4 when you have the entire company worried about losing jobs." - bjornski, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2MS could offer them $20 a share and walk away with it now.
Yahoo! shareholders would call for blood if the offer wasn't taken. - inactive, on 10/17/2008, -0/+2I'm a Webcrawler man. It's lightning fast!!!
- RoadWarriorX11, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1***** you yahoo!
- McHoffa, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1If I was at the top of a big business and making millions like this, I would cut unneeded expenses and take a drastic pay cut myself in hard times before I had to cut thousands of jobs. Maybe that's why I am not at the top of a business...
- poprocksandsoda, on 10/16/2008, -5/+6Ha Ha ... I guess those guys who pushed MS for more are now cashing out big time. It'll be interesting to see how many shares the top execs are dumping to make sure they end up with something when this dog gets sold for pennies. Yahoo! hasn't innovated in over a decade. They can join the Excite, Altavista, Lycos and the Hotbots of the world in history.
- nazsco, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1on a short term for the shareholders it would be better. But do you think it would have been only 3,500 jobs gone?
- mathcreative, on 10/22/2008, -0/+1True except the long term strategy part. Yahoo before microsoft was proposed to them, was looking into the social networking business(it still is now) cause they probably figured they weren't going to beat google at search. Which makes sense because between google and yahoo, yahoo seems more people friendly. Which counteracts your statement of no clear long term strategies, though depending on watch you mean by clear.
But I don't think if microsoft took control of yahoo, that they would allow yahoo to go into these ventures. I think microsoft, would have told yahoo to increasly focus on search.
These are just my thoughts though - cyphin6, on 10/17/2008, -1/+2If this is true it just confirms that Yahoo is completely failing as a whole and their ridiculous decision to reject Microsoft's buyout offer was their mistake that now cost maybe 3,500 people their jobs just so Yahoo could hold onto that small amount of pride they even have. What a shame.
- Marking, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Reward productivity, get ride of the slackers.
- EricSchC1, on 10/17/2008, -0/+1Its that damn conscience getting in your way.
