- flamingduck, on 05/22/2008, -2/+108i love last.fm
- chaos7, on 05/22/2008, -13/+101i have no problem with the old look
- TylerDCA, on 05/22/2008, -8/+84Nice to know, I am not a fan of the old UI. The new one looks a lot cleaner.
- inactive, on 05/22/2008, -0/+37you just don't get it do you?
- amneosis, on 05/22/2008, -1/+33Paint it black!
- mitchellmckenna, on 05/24/2009, -19/+49New UI looks kinda bland to be honest.
- iamthejeff, on 05/22/2008, -2/+29The old layout was really slow... Like it chugged when you tried to scroll. Don't know if that was just me, but I hope they fixed it.
- matt3454, on 05/22/2008, -1/+26Im not sure im liking the new look, although the last change took a while for me to warm to. I just wish they would update the charts more!
- Jaymoon, on 05/22/2008, -0/+22Pssst... it takes $3 to subscribe....
Just saying... - prom, on 05/22/2008, -1/+21Last.fm is the best music site ever. I
- jimmyb3, on 05/22/2008, -0/+19Yeah, but when will they FINALLY activate a feature that will allow you to ban a band instead of just a song?!?!?
- inactive, on 05/22/2008, -0/+16From the article:
Real-time charts. Yes, finally! Every track you scrobble gets added to all of your charts. Instantly. No more waiting for Sunday and praying to the chart gods…
The updates look pretty nice. I'm kind of hoping the "Library" feature is voluntary though. - MethylNH3, on 05/22/2008, -0/+15yeah, exactly what I was hoping for.
- shufan, on 05/22/2008, -1/+16Looks very clean. I'm looking forward to new features more than the visual aspect, but a little touchup keeps things interesting.
- mattus, on 05/22/2008, -0/+13How are you paying your dues by scrobbling loads of tracks? It's YOU who's using THEIR service for nothing!
- Klarth, on 05/22/2008, -2/+15Yes, but have you actually contributed to the developers at all?
Didn't think so. You get what you pay for. - Chirp08, on 05/22/2008, -0/+11but functional. great design is more then looking pretty.
- patRIOTik, on 05/22/2008, -0/+11Scrobbled 40,000 tracks and you're too cheap to drop a $3 donation? :)
You're hella hardcore, mon frère. - 8ight, on 05/23/2008, -0/+10I had to click "Paint it Black". The default was too much for me.
- lcmatt, on 05/22/2008, -0/+8You didn't read the article did you?
"testing the water by initially introducing this just to a small group of its most hardcore, subscription-paying users" - drgmdp, on 05/22/2008, -3/+11what an ugly-ass music taste
- armo, on 05/23/2008, -0/+8Oh yeah, "looks very ajax" to me too
- kazikame, on 05/22/2008, -2/+9It's Frankenstein's monster, with The Economist's head and Facebook's body.
- caban, on 05/22/2008, -0/+7Maybe it's not so much to get something for them self as to give something back to people who provide a very nice and useful service?
- lozzd, on 05/22/2008, -0/+6So they can use our super new beta, dur! Seriously though, we've hidden the subscription away for a while since we're not exactly ecstatic about the features we offer. It's hardly expensive to try out the real time charts, activity feeds, and all the other new features for a month.
- witooo, on 05/22/2008, -0/+6The MobileScrobbler for iPhone & iPod Touch is awsome. I strongly recommend it even if you dont want an account at last.fm for any other purpose than to be able to use this app.
http://dev.c99.org/MobileScrobbler/ - bigpixl, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7I hate supporting developers. And when they try to improve the service I don't pay for, I get ticked off.
- maninalift, on 05/22/2008, -0/+6Very grown-up: flat not glossy, subdued colours.
- MaxMWood, on 05/22/2008, -5/+11Looks alot better than the current look. The new look seems very clean, looks very ajax and the searchbar looks like it belongs in OS X.
- elbonito665, on 05/22/2008, -2/+8but Pandora forgot the world... :(
- maninalift, on 05/22/2008, -1/+6Bland is good. You want your UI to be exciting?
- maninalift, on 05/22/2008, -0/+5The old look maybe but not the UI behaviour. I'd like the it if the player wasn't fixed to a particular page so if I clicked on a link without opening it in a new tab I wouldn't lose my place in the radio stream.
But then I'm sure there would be objections to an approach that had a single instance of the player however you browsed the page.
hmmm thinking about it I can see how the interface could work (something like the little panel at the bottom of the page in FaceBook or the chatbox in Google Mail) but I don't know whether keeping one stream running is really possible. - Soave, on 05/22/2008, -0/+4If you go to the Last.fm blog, it says that charts will be updated in real time, so you don't need to wait until Sunday each week.
http://blog.last.fm/2008/05/21/building-the-next-l ... - unibomber223, on 05/22/2008, -3/+7i like the new layout, although i can't really complain about the old one
- maninalift, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3If you set your address bar to do as the default behaviour in Firefox and Google feeling lucky it then all you have to do is type "fm" that's got to be faster than "audioscrobbler.com".
If your still not happy, type "audioscrobbler.com" and it redirects you anyway and very fast. - lozzd, on 05/22/2008, -2/+5We love you too!
- bigpixl, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3…isn't streaming the whole point of the application?
- nandasunu, on 05/22/2008, -2/+5unfortunately pandora is usa only though.
- dinostabOMG, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3For legal reasons? Last I heard the guy who runs it is trying to get it working everywhere else.
- Apocalyptic0n3, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3While it would be nice if this was a feature for everyone, the people who pay for the site should get some benefits that the rest of us won't. Look at any site with a subscription model. deviantART, for example, allows subscribers beta testing, more deviations per page, CSS styled journals, etc. It makes sense that there has to be some features for those who pay for the site that the normal users don't have. Donations usually don't go over very well.
- poutch, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3god i'm a nerd, i just subscribed to see it
- JupiterSSJ4, on 05/22/2008, -1/+4Im just about to hit 40,000 scrobbles and I'm not a subscriber, but I would if I had some extra money. I have supported other fledgling websites before if I really use their service and I Love Last.Fm.
But yes, will love the realtime charts and hopefully large list pages will load, they time out a lot now - shardmunch, on 05/22/2008, -1/+4On the other hand, I'd think they were doing me a favor by tracking my music listening habits and putting them into nice charts for free. I only wish they existed when I first started listening to music.. it'd be interesting to watch my tastes change as I grew up.
- kitsua, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3I think Jemima Kiss is hot.
- armo, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3Your musical compatibility rating with SinceDaysPass is: Very Low
http://www.last.fm/user/r-mo/ - aliguana, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2your comment my have been in jest, but it raises an important point. LastFM does NOT datamine without our concent. We know it collects our data, thats why we sign up to it. It's the sites that datamine without telling us that is the problem.
In short, all datamining, whether from websites or software, should always be OPT-IN. I have no problem opting in to LastFm, because they provide me a brilliant service in return for my data. Infact there are lots of services out there I wouldn't mind opting into. But the choice HAS to remain mine. - xXShadowstormXx, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2http://www.last.fm/user/TheShadowstorm/
As a subscriber, I rather like the new layout. There's more content but less clutter. I do miss the colors, though. - ElBeh, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2I know. It's a really big shame you non-USers can't try it out. Last.fm on, dude!
- richbradshaw, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2so much easier that you put audi instead of audio.
- vostek, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3Looks nice to me. Dugg for last.fm because music rocks, and seeing exactly what the hell I listened to last week, or any week for that matter, is pretty damn sweet.
