- tempusrob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41Blindingly obvious direct link: http://www.last.fm/updates/
- heavyd14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Last.fm and Pandora are very different in my mind. I play *my* music, and can skip as much as I want with Last.fm and it recommends based on what I play.
- ryker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11They give bandwidth priority to subscribers. I've been using last.fm for years. I just recently subscribed and it loads really fast. You also get other features that make it worth subscribing, and it's really cheap to subscribe.
- kd1s, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I have come to love last.fm as it recommends things I'd never have found on my own. For example, it's turned me on to Eddie Palmieri and Nu Yourican Soul. Would never have made that connection at all.
I'm not so sure about the taste thing. I mean, what fun is life if you don't learn a little along the way? - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Maybe it's because you're Finnish and the servers are in London and America?! Last.fm is always fast for me, but then the servers are only a couple of miles away from me :)
- OHFOSHO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I use both last.fm and pandora.com. Generally I found I listen to pandora more than last.fm but have found new artists through both.
Many people who use these services probably know about http://pandorafm.real-ity.com/ but if you haven't seen it check it out. - valona, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15Yip they had the Scandinavia mathematical jazz-metal band Flochnatch tagged as being Progressive Death Metal! I mean come on! How would anyone not know the difference between 2-4 beat jazz/grindcore mashups and death metal influenced freebeat sludge metal? Last.fm sucks!
- phronko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The "FM" part sort of implies that yes, it's a radio. And you expected otherwise? Hmmm.
Personally, I love it. I use Last.fm to keep track of music I listen to in iTunes, on my iPod, and on Pandora, so I have all my listening habits recorded in one place. I guess there's not much point in keeping track of what I listen to, but it's strangely satisfying to nerds like me. - yawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's the disadvantage of user generated content (here: Tagging a artist) ..
- valona, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The new updates have made the site really slow, but its still possibly my favourite site on the web. The streaming radio plays me tunes I would never have had the opportunity to listen to or root out, but which (most of the time) I like. No ads, a plugin for Winamp so it knows what I already have and like, a thriving community, a nice site design (perhaps not that instinctive at first, but definately usable). This site is full of webby 2.0 features, that are actually useful. Yahoo Launch was progressing down the same track a few years ago, but then they started putting in ads every time you skipped a song you didn't like. Adios!
Yay for Last.fm. It just works. - Kingmichael, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think the Taste-o-Meter is a little inaccurate. In one profile it shows my musical compatibility rating as "Super" because I share "many artists in common including "Judas Priest, Metallica, Helloween, and Iron Maiden" but I don't really listen to those bands a lot. My musical compatibility rating with people who listen to my favorite bands (Nightwish, After Forever, Epica, etc) is only "very high".
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4lozzd: I was referring to digg.
Last.fm - London, digg - America :) - AdamWeeden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'd like it better if they added more music. Half the artists I like are listed with no available music.
- qwame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What Last.fm really needs to take care of is figuring out a way link the music they play for you on their browser, to music that is available through music download stores. I have picked up so much music through places like Bleep.com and emusic thanks to stuff I found through Last.fm, and I really think they should be getting a cut of that, or at least making it easier for their users to get the music they like.
- slurpeyatari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Of all the last.fm haters, i'm not one.
Why because I join a group that listens to similar tastes in music. Plus it exposes me to music I wouldnt have known or even thought of liking.
Last.fm is awesome - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here's how the old site looked like, way back from when it was called Audioscrobbler:
http://web.archive.org/web/20040923080639/http://www.audioscrobbler.com/ - invalidusername, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank you for loving this track.
You have successfully banned this track.
I love that wording. - fritzon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3subscribers get a "behind the scenes" look before a new version of the site launches.
- Recluse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I like the redesign but I'll take Pandora over last.fm any day. It gives me better recommendations. And I'm not really interested in the whole social music site thing.
- Jadey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is my first time to last.fm so I haven't seen the old design, but I don't get the complaints about this layout. It's completely intuitive and clean. Anyone have a screenshot of the old to compare?
- DAMU, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Also, there is talk that last.fm is having issues with their telco provider (or maybe was having issues) that might be the reason for the slowness. I've tried both pandora and last.fm and I love last.fm, great design and great music choices.
dam - lozzd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There are more tweaks coming to that feature this week.
- zugu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And yes, I know that they would have to pay millions of dollars in royalties if they did that, but at least don't advertise it as such!
- keitho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the overall look is similar but some elements have been rearranged. still cool to see it evolving.
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well that is the nature of 'radio.' It's not music on demand. It's not meant to replace your CD collection and let you play what you want when you want.
It is radio based on the kind of music you tell it you like to listen to.
Get it? - jues, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5last.fm FUGGING ROXXX!!! :)
- lozzd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Teaboy, they don't have any servers in America.
- nova77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About speed, look at the comments here:
http://www.last.fm/user/RJ/journal/2006/10/31/257005/ - lozzd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you subscribe (hardly expensive) you get "Personal Radio" which plays you the stuff that you've listened to before. But yes, they cannot play particular stuff that you want beacuse liscenses are too expensive.
- Sutoka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree, Last.FM has helped me find several artists so far that I really like (Poets of the Fall, Apulanta, TikTak, Apocalyptica, Adema, Gorillaz, and probably a few others). Though for some reason Last.fm really likes to recommend Finnish artists/bands to me (the first 4 I listed are all Finnish).
- heavyd14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The main complaint about the new design is that its really slow.
http://www.fh-worms.de/~inf813/last.fm.plugins.jpg - DrewClayton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3digg++ i love pandorafm!
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Pandora recomends on what you play aswell, but it uses a different system to recomend, I myself prefer pandora
used last fm for a while, and while it is a good setup, I prefer how pandora chooses music based on the musical attributes not other peoples preferences, I find that the herd who listens to my type of music also listens to a lot of music I hate so last fm was always picking out bad (in my opinion) songs, pandora does somewhat better - lozzd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Teaboy: Gotcha, sorry about that :)
- diggmaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Now if only Pandora could come up with such a cool little application which would peacefully sit in the sys tray, I'll be all over it
- jeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i quite like this site. its also a bit addictive. i end up changing my mind alot about bands which i used to think sucked - its a good place to learn what tastes you have!
- Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3i actually emailed last.fm suggesting the gig guide to them about 6 months ago.
finally, awesome! - crossers, on 07/23/2008, -1/+0this site is awesome, but there is one thing I can't understand Taste-o-meter what is this?

http://www.chasr.org/ - Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Everyone did, didn't they?
- yawn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6@valona:
You didn't get it, did you? It's the users who assign wrong tags to certain artists, not last.fm itself. - valona, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Oh I got it alright. Got it loud and clear.
- jaredvolkl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2You must be the only one because the last.fm recommendations I get are terrible.
- zugu, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4I know I'll get dugg down after I say this, but here I go: when I first visited last.fm, I felt cheated. Why? Because it's advertised as a place where you can listen to the music you like, but instead you get to listen to anything but the artists you love.
Recommendations. Suggestions. Recommendations.
I want to listen to ATB! - I can't! But here are some suggestions.
I want to listen to Infected Mushroom! - I can't! But here are some suggestions.
I want to listen to friggin' Madonna! - I can't! But here are some suggestions.
It's a radio, people, nothing more than a friggin' radio! - mikev, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4I loved last.fm when they had the old design, but now the new design is terrible.. :(
- Hexter, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1I actually had beta access to these feature before it came public ;)
- carolinevb, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5also check out this other digg about last.fm by user baseless
