- m3mn0n, on 02/04/2008, -2/+27I'm not a Mac guy and even I know you don't need two computers to run Windows software if you want a Mac.

- darthchaosrspw, on 02/04/2008, -1/+15Rose has been a big Mac fan for years. I still remember the eppy of The Screen Savers where Albrecht smashed Rose's PowerMac up with a baseball bat (or was it a sledgehammer).
Truth is, people have different tastes. Some like Windows more. Some like Macs more. Some like Linux more. That's what's so great about what little freedom we still have. We are free to use which operating systems we see fit. And you don't even have to be a "fanboi" to enjoy an OS. - beankitty, on 02/04/2008, -3/+16I am a girl. Who cares? Nobody. Quit being an attention whore.
- epj3, on 02/04/2008, -13/+26Really, are you guys THAT insecure about buying an apple that you have to justify it to everyone? I don't want an apple - not because its an apple, but because I've been using PC's for the past 12 years and they work 100% for me.
- sfacets, on 02/04/2008, -5/+173 Macs here, no PC running Windows here. I have one running Linux though.
- CryptiniteDemon, on 02/04/2008, -3/+15Why don't people just try Windows, OSX, and Linux and see which one they like best? I've used all three, and meh, about the same really as long as you're not a retard who puts viruses on your own *****.
- p0tent1al, on 02/04/2008, -9/+20From a recent switcher, in my opinion, why Macs are better
* Supports developers better, which leads to my next point.
* Better software (textmate, quiksilver, etc)
* Easy to install and uninstall software, none of this reboot after every installation *****
* Built on top of (BSD) Unix, as a result More stable, less crashes, and you can utilize powerful commands usually used by Linux users
* Utilizes powerful features such as the Dock and Spaces to keep things organized and clean, all the while looking stunning
* Macs don't get spy ware and virus's like Windows does
* A beautiful OS but not as heavy on the glitz, glamor, and not as resource heavy like Vista is.
* Very minimalistic OS which tries best to get out of your way, not get in your way like Vista does with it's OS; UAC is a good example of this.
* Macs are very easy for newcomers to use, but at the same time powerful enough that advanced users can take advantage of it. You won't find anything powerful like the terminal in Windows.
* Last thing, if there is any reason for you to use Windows, you can easily boot into it from Mac.
I'm not a Mac Fanboy like the rest so with that there are a couple of downsides.
* Practically no games on the Mac.
*There is no equivalent for Microsoft Office 2007 on the Mac. iWork sucks, and Microsoft 2008 for Mac sucks, because of no VB support for excel, and the interfaces for those programs suck, also no equivalent for OneNote2007 on the Mac.
* There are little finicky things with the interface I could do with Windows that I can't do with Mac. I can't go to my trash can and decide to permanently empty just 1 thing, you have to empty the whole thing.
* Macs are EXPENSIVE, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, though the saying is true, you get what you pay for. The upside to this, is the resell value for your Mac is very very High. You could buy a MacBook Pro today, and 2 years from now, get a very substantial amount of money for it on eBay or something.
* Macs don't support all the hardware, and devices that Windows does.
That's basically the difference. Although I will say, most people who have used both operating systems for an extensive time (and by extensive I mean using a Mac and Windows for at least 1 month) prefer Macs. It's just an easier but at the same time, a more powerful computer, that gets the hell out of the way and allows me to do what I want without annoying me. - dinostabOMG, on 02/04/2008, -6/+17Me too. One of the reasons to switch to Mac is that you can do Unix and Linux-like stuff? Why not just install a Linux distro? That does Linux-like stuff too and you can keep your hardware.
- xOKxWhy, on 02/04/2008, -19/+30Spoilers: It's not.

- wulfstein, on 02/04/2008, -3/+12He stays, but you can go.
- dumpyhumpy, on 02/04/2008, -3/+12Im using a mac right now, and it does in fact have software on it.
- mmmmmbiscuits, on 02/04/2008, -7/+15What a coincidence! Today I switched from Hershey's Chocolate Syrup to Nestle Quik strawberry flavor. I find it to be a satisfying beverage that pairs well with Toaster Strudel, Velveeta with Ritz Crackers, or even Cadbury Flake bars. Unpretentious nose yet literally bursting with strawberry flavors with a hint of black pepper. 90/100.
- mirrorguy, on 02/04/2008, -4/+12Incorrect, sir. PCs CAN play games, but they can also do most everything a Mac can.
Personally, I love Apple's hardware, but I'm willing to give that up for the privilege to build my PC, myself, which will be cheaper, more powerful, and more versatile than any Macintosh. - PabloMac, on 02/04/2008, -4/+11No need to own both.
- Animal, on 02/04/2008, -7/+14Why the need to 'switch'? Why do you have to be a PC guy or a MAC guy? Can't we stop with all the fanboyism?
- threemagic, on 02/04/2008, -1/+7Bootcamp is NOT an emulator, it's Windows running natively. Niether is VMware or Parallel's for that matter, they virtualize.. big difference.
- DarknessGP, on 02/04/2008, -0/+5uh? Macs are PCs... plus, who is the zealous PC users? Both Pat and Kevin have been using Macs for years.
- threemagic, on 02/04/2008, -5/+10Well, it's ONE of the reasons.. not the only reason. Linux doesn't have a lot of commercial software available for it.
- Alcorr, on 02/04/2008, -1/+6Exactly, I agree 100%. Most of this vista bashing is really unnecessary. If you know what you are doing, vista runs rock solid and stable and is a much better OS than XP is....

- Exilon, on 02/04/2008, -1/+6Buy smart and you won't need a $400 GPU. Hell, people who buy even consider $400 GPUs are either stupid or rolling around in money.

IONO WUTS GOING ON - victorc26, on 02/04/2008, -0/+4This is my philosophy.
Who cares what OS you're using, as long as you're not bothering me about using X Operating System instead of Y or Z Operating Systems. I personally enjoy all three major platforms. (Haven't tried pure Unix out though). Some like one OS, some like them all. If you like one OS over the others, more power to you, but don't expect everyone else to think exactly like you do.
Now, I'm a computer builder. With that said: I would build an OSX box, if Apple let us do it legitimately, in a heart beat. I'd literally order all the parts right now if Jobs made a surprise announcement during the Superbowl. No question. Now this doesn't mean I would dump my Windows + Linux box, I would run the OSX box and the Windows/Linux box side by side, or run them simultaneously in other rooms. Wherever, however I want.
I don't have a Mac yet since it's much more of a closed platform than both Windows and Linux (Hardware choice wise). So when I get one, it'll be a Notebook, not a desktop machine. But just because I like building my own machines doesn't mean I think they are
somehow superior than a Mac machine. I know why things are like they are, and there's a reason for everything. If you side with one platform just because you think your platform is somehow holier than another, you're really only hurting yourself. This goes to anyone that sides with any OS: Windows, Linux/Unix, or OSX.
To reiterate: Some people like one platform, some like another. Some like them all, and neither should attack the rest. This isn't a competition, we're the users here. Let Apple, Microsoft, and the Linux and Unix development community handle the agony and constant tedium of trying to out do one another. We are the ones who win in the end. - Ludnix, on 02/04/2008, -2/+6I would familiarize myself before starting school. Although I'm sure OSX has plenty of features for students you're going to want to have learned to use them before you need them, try and play around on someone else's or install OSX on a PC to give it a try.

- samfishercell, on 02/04/2008, -0/+4Much more tasty than your $400 Dell. :D

- cave, on 02/04/2008, -1/+5First of all boot camp is not emulation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_Camp_%28software ...
Second of all there are plenty of 3D Mac apps that are just as capable as 3D Max, for instance Maya and LightWave. In fact the only 3d application that comes to my mind that is windows only is 3dsMax, so I don't know what you mean by "but many other 3d applications are PC only" - nigh7dagger, on 02/04/2008, -1/+4When people get attacked for using PC's, yes.
- Richandler, on 02/04/2008, -5/+8I'm sticking with my 4-year-old PC because I don't have a spare $2,000 for anything.
- asdfuiop, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3At least you're not a caramel fanboy
- DarknessGP, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Don't you mean what administrators can do with the BSD core of OSX?
