- DigiDave, on 03/13/2008, -1/+80I find it so interesting that there is a gossip website about and for nerds.
Imagine what this looks like to other people? They probably view it the same way we view E-weekly.
I'm not trying to hate - just saying: Let's get a little perspective. It's a little weird when you are digging a ValleyWag article about the co-founder of Digg's party at SXSW aka Spring Break for the internet. Navel gazeing much? - SaladCactusKing, on 03/13/2008, -1/+51rich people partying. whoop dee doo.
- Typhoon2009, on 03/13/2008, -0/+33Sounds like the dot-com bubble parties of the late 90s...
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -11/+41For the love of god, no more DIGG stories about DIGG!
Jay, Kevin, please sell DIGG, take your money, and go away. - strictnein, on 03/13/2008, -1/+25http://www.sxsw.com/
It's the most annoying time of year to read blogs. Blog after blog writing about how they saw other blog writers at such and such a party and how awesome it all was, as if anyone cares.
It's so super hip and trendy with corporate sponsors like Coke, Toyota, Dell, and Miller Lite, because they're all so trendy and hip too. - vclortho, on 03/13/2008, -2/+23Internet celebrity circle-jerk time!!!
- EvilAnimator, on 03/13/2008, -6/+22Namedropper. And Cuban is not awesome.
- derrickgossman, on 03/13/2008, -1/+17Seriously -- who gives a ***** about any of these people? So they run websites, etc. Whoopee.
- strictnein, on 03/13/2008, -1/+16But now with more smugness.
- EvilAnimator, on 03/13/2008, -3/+13More sickening namedropping.
- canewediggit, on 03/13/2008, -2/+12wow, you sound just like every douche bag that comes to south beach. "i saw paris at prive on saturday, she was so cool and down to earth. and then puffy came in and he danced so good, and khaled got on the tables and yelled out 'we the best!' and i was like 'yeah we are'. oh, you're just jealous cause you weren't there but i was on the vip list b/c my sister's best friend's boyfriend's roomate saw ferris at 31 flavors last night and he hooked it up."
only w/ internet celebs instead of real ones. it's not hating, it's you being a douche with starry eyes because you've never been in the presence of people w/ money and/or power before. - Ikulus, on 03/13/2008, -1/+10There was a time when geeks were the underdogs. Generally rejected, unappreciated, and often ignored. Then the internet took the forefront and geeks were given the spotlight. Suddenly it was okay to be a geek. Geek culture took off and was accepted as a valid form of social interaction. That was the honeymoon period...
Now it's become an inbred back-patting festival of pseudo-celebrities and product endorsements. It's starting to remind me of everything I hated and hate about mainstream media. Tabloids and gossip. Shallow discussions and massive egos. Elitism.
Looks like it's time for a new underground. - Ratteler, on 03/13/2008, -5/+14Ok. I know I'm lame. I know I'm getting dug down.... but WTF is a SXSW?
- derrickgossman, on 03/13/2008, -1/+9Internet celebrity != real celebrity.
- derrickgossman, on 03/13/2008, -3/+10Amen. Sell Digg to Microsoft already so that the retarded Digg community orgy will come to a screeching halt.
- ralphthemagi, on 03/13/2008, -0/+7You're the same as everyone else here buddy. Get over yourself. You just spent $1,000 (assuming you actually went to SXSW) to take the day off of work to talk to Kevin Rose. You want a cookie?
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -0/+6Who gives a *****
- markgl, on 03/13/2008, -1/+7Mark Cuban! What a dick!
- vclortho, on 03/13/2008, -1/+5You are so goddamn awesome.
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -1/+5fag
- ralphthemagi, on 03/13/2008, -1/+5Don't you know? That's what Web 2.0 is built on. Rails, Django, lighttpd, Mongrel clusters and smug. Without the last part, the server doesn't boot up.
- kmjmu, on 03/13/2008, -0/+4i went to the media temple party and walked over to pure volume for the digg party, but the bouncer was telling everyone outside that the party was for "vip's only" and we were "wasting our time"...which wasn't true since i had a badge to get into pure volume and had been there just about every night...i actually thought it was one of the better hangout spots. anyone else have this experience for the digg party? media temple's party was awesome, and so was SXSW overall. definitely going back next year.
- Typhoon2009, on 03/13/2008, -0/+3What the ***** was that? That's the sort of spam e-mail you would've seen in the 90s.
- Orb9, on 03/13/2008, -1/+4So cool. You are so, cool.
- MrMongoose, on 03/13/2008, -0/+3I was there too, it was a free party you jerkoff. Congratulations, you managed to RSVP just like everyone else who was there. Wow, you saw some notable people, no one gives a *****.
- doctordbx, on 03/13/2008, -0/+3I'd ***** care but I went Snowboarding and had a much more awesome time than you.
Can anyone else see the irony in a 'party' for social networking websites? - kidcodea, on 03/13/2008, -3/+6"Mark Cuban is awesome"
mark, get da ***** off digg, u dumb one trick pony. - Atomic1fire, on 03/13/2008, -2/+5Something I could care less about
Tell me when something more interesting happens - debuggercll, on 03/13/2008, -2/+5What? That's the perfect reason to stop others.
- airtran, on 03/13/2008, -1/+4OMG!!! KEVIN ROSE!!?!?!?
DUGG!
/sarcasm - strictnein, on 03/13/2008, -3/+6What's even worse is that he submitted this story just so he could name drop. Buried.
- vclortho, on 03/13/2008, -0/+3Well put.
- SaladCactusKing, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Ugh, die in a fire.
- ralphthemagi, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Or in this case, e-fans. I mean, outside of Mark Cuban, that's what all these other e-celebs have. They don't really have power and they aren't making 7-8 figures. Don't get me wrong, they make alot, but it's scraps compared to what the bankrollers get. It's the investors that get to walk away with the bags covered in dollar signs.
- strictnein, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Now if Media Temple's hosting could be awesome. They go down more than an aspiring singer in NY City.
- Scheissen, on 03/13/2008, -1/+3couldn't care less
- steveoco, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2Am I supposed to be jealous that I wasn't there? (FYI: I don't give a *****)
- woojoo, on 03/13/2008, -7/+909-F9-11-02-9D
- SaladCactusKing, on 03/13/2008, -2/+4He's not blog spamming, it's a link to a girl who most probably did sleep with Kevin Rose. lawdy lawdy lawdy.
- inactive, on 03/13/2008, -0/+2It's no Bohemian Grove. That's at least a little interesting.
- airburst, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1LOL @ your blue badge. You ***** nobody.
- toast24, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1It was totally free...I was there.
- dizilbdog, on 03/13/2008, -3/+4Justine Sane
- doctordbx, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1I have no idea what the ***** you just said.
- slurpee, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1Check SXSW live concert
http://community.hottopic.com/videos/SXSWstream.as ... - MrMongoose, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1Actually, it was free (if you signed up early enough). I didn't see any of the aforementioned "celebrities", but did have quite a good time listening to music and drinking for free all night long. Great party!
- frostw, on 03/13/2008, -2/+3What a bunch of old wank
- JoshuaLowe, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2006/08/abbyleeAL ...
DO NOT WANT - inactive, on 03/13/2008, -1/+2True enough. Still, I'd ***** her with Kevin's dick.
Then I'd punch him for making me such a manwhore. - KibibyteBrain, on 03/13/2008, -0/+1What are you talking about. SXSW is everything that is wrong with Silicon Valley, new media, etc right now rolled up into one event. Its sort of proof that the bubble is yet again ready to burst. SXSW is pretty much why huge conservative corporations dominate everything, because they can actually meet and have convocations that are productive and advance their fields without going on a raging drunk rampage the whole time.
