- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+947Oh yay! Now I have yet another IM protocol that only ONE of my friends uses.
Seriously, I have about 10 friends. And about each damn one of them is on a different protocol.
....
ok, I lied. I dont have friends, but im sure that's happened to someone right? - EvilCowSan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+182Yes, but now you can digg down your friends when they msg you...
- durzagott, on 10/12/2007, -17/+187Great, just what we need - another IM client. Wooptie doo.
- fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -22/+143Why doesn't he devote some time to increasing digg's features. It's almost like they made a decision to just stop the development of digg about 2 years ago, because it's been redesigned a couple of times since then and all they've done is add categories, videos, tweak the interface slightly and throw little bits of flash candy in so you omg can visualise the data in a new way.
Fix search, comment threading, deleting comments, tracking yours/other people's comments, proper duplication story checking, better comment moderation and everything else. If you need ideas, check reddit.com, they seem to have figured out functionality if not interface. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+113Great, just what we need. Months and months of front-page stories on every tiny rumour or feature concerning Kevin's new app.

Remember this? - fkr3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+80You mean ... like http://meebo.com/ ?
- hackmyballs, on 10/12/2007, -8/+87Digg + Twitter
Twitter + Digg
TWIGG!!!
Where is my prize?
I'll be here all day
ktxby - ivebeenhigh, on 10/12/2007, -10/+78would you have his babies?
- Mc_Carter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+57I prefer Dark Tipper to Kevin "digg" rose.
- mattmcm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+55Sounds like MySpace IM. For the love of God, don't let the emo kids invade Digg!
- LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+58@Kevin in regards to his accomplishments
Great, kid. Don’t get cocky - mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46I love that this article has been dugg by dburka. Sounds like validation to me!
- TheProtested, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38@brokenempires
are you...hitting on him? - sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30This client better be mind-blowingly brilliant. If not, it will only be a waste of time and money.
- Jerky1312, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28How about we wait until the thing is launch before we start criticizing it? Nobody knows what kind of features it may entail and what innovations it may provide. I'm not encouraging people to get excited about it, but to critize it before it even launches is just ridiculous.
- scrubadub, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Hopefully it won't fall into GTalk Territory
- dburka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23tanveer: To be clear, Kevin did not make that post on Om's site despite the fact that it bears his name. Someone posted it pretending to be Kevin.
- paulmdx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I wonder if this new project will be able to keep you logged in, unlike Digg and Revision3.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29I've never really understood why people respond harshly when someone says something positive about Kevin Rose or other people with considerable accomplishments.
Is it that terrible to like or be inspired by what someone does?
Is having a role model not a good thing anymore? - knyghtfyre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17If it's a standalone app, you can bet your ass it's gonna be done with Adobe's Apollo technology.
- Inevitable.Fate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@fkr3
Kevin recently said that there is going to be some new site changing features
so maybe some of those may be included

fast forward ahead a minute - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20http://flickr.com/photos/laughingsquid/465896546/
Someone explain that to me. She aint bad. - Red_Eye, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17great, hoefully they will be the first IM company to realize that they need some sort of verification that a message reaches the destination. Thats my biggest #$@ complaint with all the other IM protocols, none of them verify a message makes it. Example;
joestud: Hey baby whatcha doin?
girlie: nothing, why
joestud: wanna come over and hang out?
girlie: sure but i gotta clean the toilet first, I cant tell you how bad a mess my roommate makes, nastiest job in the house (This is the message that gets droped)
girlie: i'd sooner castrate my cat
joestud: uhhh ok, i guess we can talk another time....
Why is it so hard for these IM companies to see that they need to make sure a message gets through. The above example is ugly but similar things happen. - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15when the hell is he going to transform the porn industry
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15"Is it even remotely possible for a dude to get pregnant?"
I'm convinced John Goodman has a few kids trapped inside him with no way to get out..... - seanm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I remember Kevin talking on Diggnation a while back about how IM clients haven't really improved at all in years. He was listing a bunch of ideas he had for them. Anyone remember the episode?
- PunkFenixJT, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Well at least with Kevin in charge we can be pretty sure it is for OSX, PC, and Linux i'm assuming. Ever since I've gotten my PC desktop working I've been looking for a Windows substitute for Adium. I know its based off of Gaim/Pidgen, but, Gaim just doesn't do it for me...hopefully Kevin's new project will fix that problem.
- mrbbad, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Yep, I am not at all interested in another damn instant message client. Basically, this is why I use Trillian - it gets me everything in one - and right now I am looking forward to Trillian Astra. Sometimes someone wants to use a unique IM client for some special feature like a game, but there are plenty of other flash games and junk out there that you do not need to play through an IM client.
You know what the ONLY exception is?
Skype.
It is that good! Skype is the only IM client acceptable aside Trillian for me, for obvious outstanding voice quality and lots of other great unique features. - riffic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Whatever it is, I just wish it is XMPP based ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Messaging_and_Presence_Protocol )
- tanveer, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20Look what I found from the comment thread:

Om,
I specifically asked you not to talk about this. You will be hearing from my lawyer soon.

Ooooo.... - macbwizard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15rabid?
- ewcost, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Sounds great! I hope it works well with OSX.
- DeadlyBrad42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@pengu
Meebo's a web based IM client, and it's pretty damn good. - CharlesMay, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13@Admirabumblebee
Just start a MySpace account, you can have thousands of friends... Isn't that how it's done now? - ivebeenhigh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11You are wrong. Its good for Digg that it doesn't need Kevin.
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"""friends [...] each damn one of them is on a different protocol."""
Yep, this is normal. That's what multi-protocol clients are for.
Gaim/Pidgin or Kopete is the way forward - which one depends on your platform and preference. - norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I dunno, but enjoyus.com looks like a porn site :)
- Jandels, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13@drooginphoenix "Someone explain that to me. She aint bad."
@fkr3 "Obviously she must have flaws we can't see to settle for him."
He's a good looking guy, he's successful and chances are he's intelligent too. Yeah, it's tough to figure out why any girl would want to be with him... - spenceman01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That is "first time entrepreneur" Leah Culver. I actually knew her (kind of) from my co-op days at IBM. I guess it's kind of cool to see people you know making headlines.
- leahculver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually, Daniel is Lead Designer for Digg and silverorange, not Stamen. The Stamen kids are mighty cool though.
- Twisty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Ravid?
- jull1234, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7But will it give me a free beer for joining?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It could be anything yet, quit yer whining!
- ricepudd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why would anyone use IM as the base for a startup? Where is the money in it?
1. The market is already saturated (unless this new client will have very whizzy new features like neural links and 3-d heads popping up out of the screen)
2. Even if the client has ad's in it, surely soon enough clients like Pidgin etc will reverse engineer the protocol and bypass any ad revenue... ? - foxymcfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5During the Reno episode of Diggnation, K.Rose mentioned that he bought a site called "Enjoyus," or "Enjoius," or "Injoyus," or any number of other, possible Web 2.0 spellings. Could that be the name of this latest startup?
- 200paul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes BUT - will ANY of these startups make any money
- AlexJTanner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes how the mighty have fallen.
Anyways it is all about IRC. - wastern, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Seeing as Kevin is a rapid Apple fan I don't see that being an issue
