- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jasqwerty: Police departments are seriously underfunded, and they nearly all use ***** guns with a lot of leakage.
Also, radar reflects. A good unit with plenty of range to it, like a V1, can detect those reflections as well. Yeah, that's not going to help you in the middle of nowhere and you're the only car on the road and he zaps you and only you, but in normal conditions, where he's zapping every car that goes by, you'll get a warning long before he aims at you.
This system seems way pointless. For one, you still have to wire power to each component. Using bluetooth for communication is great and all, but it's generally not a reliable connection mechanism. It's subject to interference and such easily enough. For something like a radar rig, I really would want it to be hardwired.
Oh, and drilling through your firewall does *not* void your warranty. We have laws protecting the consumer from the car companies on that sort of thing. - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Detectors are useless from what I've experienced. If you're picking up the gun, the police are picking up your speed, randomly jamming your breaks all the way down doesn't help either, so unless they're using some ***** gun with alot of leakage or some area with good reflection properties for radar with the gun constantly on, best of luck with these.
Now radar jammers, ;-) - tnoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No Digg... Too expensive... Go for a Valentine1 like zbeast recommends. He's right you won't be disappointed.
- arostad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A co worker of mine just put one of these in today! Weird. anyways the bluetooth is kinda pointless on it because you have to run power to all the sensors anyways. Remote is realllllllly small and looks like it could get lost easy. Otherwise the system is cool. Good digg!
- anchorbay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have both systems--the new bluetooth one and the previous model. I also have the Valentine One. While the Valentine One is good, you're screwed if you don't have a laser jammer. There really isn't any discernible difference between the old K40 and the new bluetooth offering except that the new one costs $200 more and includes the Laser Defuser Plus. I got the original (front and back with laser jammer) for $1000 installed and the new one for $1200 installed. I wanted to buy the old one, but of course, K40 doesn't sell them anymore. Also, I don't think any other company PAYS for all your tickets within the first year. That's some confidence. I think I'll try to find the Laser Defuser Plus on eBay and add that to my car with the Valentine One. Once you have good radar and jamming you feel NAKED driving without it. I'm constantly watching the speedometer if I happen to be driving my wife's car (the only car without protection). Tickets suck, but traffic school is worse. Well, now that you can take it online it's not bad at all, but no one wants to pay more for insurance.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yikes. A Blinder M20 will defeat nearly all laser and only costs maybe $400. Simple, easy. Add it to any car.
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Zack: "And Yo...Otto...I checked this Calibre system out and it has a "closed" network so it can be bluejacked, jammed, or otherwise interfered with."
If it runs "bluetooth", then I can make it stop working with nothing more than a microwave oven. I guarantee it. 802.11b/g too.
It being a "closed" network means absolutely nothing. Interference and jamming prevents the signal from getting there at all. - freni32, on 05/12/2008, -0/+0check out thise post showing members favorite radar detectors, shows you what the best is....and the most expensive is 399 for the valentine one radar.... http://www.radarreviews.net/forums/radar-detector- ...
- ZackSpeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah...V1's are good...I've had them...but you cannot beat the combination of performance and built-in look of a K40. They're the only system with true dual receivers. Complaining about the price reminds me of a speed shop saying, "how fast you go is a matter of how much money you have." And in this case, how good you look going fast. I got tired of swapping detectors to several vehicles as well as how they looked...esp in my M5!
Has anyone tried adding anything aftermarket to a vehicle here? It's no picnic! Not having to run alot of extra wires or cables sounds smart (and attractive) to me.
And Yo...Otto...I checked this Calibre system out and it has a "closed" network so it can be bluejacked, jammed, or otherwise interfered with.
Hmm...now I have a reason to buy that Z06 'vette! - anchorbay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Yikes. A Blinder M20 will defeat nearly all laser and only costs maybe $400."
Actually, the Laser Defuser Plus is only $250 when sold alone, and K40 will pay for your tickets even if you buy it without the rest of the radar. Of course, nothing is 100% foolproof. People have and will continue to get tickets with the K40/Laser Defuser Plus bundle installed. It's not a magic bullet, but it does a lot to help equal the playing field. - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0$1699 for a radar detector? Are they out of there mind.
I guess it for places where detectors are illegal like the UK
or something to install in that over priced car you just got.
In the US the best detector money can buy is the Valentine 1
http://www.valentine1.com/ I don't drive without it.
I live as far as I can tell in a radar trap.
the CHP is shooting it, the street cops setup speed traps all over my town.
I pull out of my drive way and there hiding on my street on Monday mornings between 7am to 9am.
If it was not for this little toy. I would not have a Drivers License.
