- powsue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a ground-breaking development as a lawsuit for Target's inaccessible website may open the way for a big push (and more lawsuits) to ensure site designs are accessible to the disabled.
This is a great win for all and a big wake up call to designer and website owners everywhere.
Something like this has been predicted and on some fronts hoped-for for years. It is suprising that these laws have been in place for long and yet, only a considerably small number of sites are truly accessible. - surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this article gives better details:

"We tried to convince Target that it should do the right thing and make its website accessible through negotiations," said Dr. Maurer. "It is unfortunate that Target took the position that it does not have to take the rights of the blind into account. The ruling in this case puts Target and other companies on notice that the blind cannot be treated like second class citizens on the Internet or in any other sphere." - adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lets hope that this helps reduce the number of non crawlable flash websites that litter the web.
- powsue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0By the way, you should check out the terrible commments on this article: http://digg.com/tech_news/Visual_Only_Websites_Are_Now_Illegal. Funny how the same thing, presented differently can cause such an outcry...

- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0on a related note, if anyone does accessibility / 508 testing can you recommend any desktop testing tool besides Watchfire's Bobby?
