- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -6/+103Just what we need, ANOTHER internet full of anime and pokemon.
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -2/+69Fluff...not even a slight mention of what this magic technology might be.
- fpcyber, on 10/10/2007, -2/+51Whatever happened to the "Internet2"?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet2 - ajmoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39can comcast be banned from the party?
- MikeonTV, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36I don't know. I wish I could find a wikipedia article about it
- proliance, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33What happened to the old Internet?
Did someone break it? - JoeRandom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+30Your Internet Foo is weak. This has nothing to do with mark up languages or the web.
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+261. Theorize replacing the internet
2. ???
3. Profit! - crashbang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26God I freakin hope so
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26Last I checked, pokemon falls under that general category of anime too.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Tubes got clogged.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+30Web 2.0 aims to replace the Japanese
- mortigon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Replace the internet?
That's going to take a lot of tubes. - Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19That's cause they only know they want to replace the internet...they're still working on figuring out the "how" part of it.
- eean, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18I'm looking forward to my cortical implant personally.
- arsheroica, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17No, they're just going to add more tentacles.
- kinerry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17If it's not compatable with ipv4 and ipv6, it's dead before it even reaches the market.
- Alex2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15The Japanese internet will have each packet individually wrapped in plastic for your sanitary protection.
These new packets will sport 'TYPE R' stickers and have a huge wing on the back which makes them go 1% faster than normal packets. (+/- 50%)
All lolcat and icanhazcheezeburger memes will be replaced by Hello Kitty and BadBatsMaru. - arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Let me show you my POKEMANS!
- rkuchiki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Yeah, Comcast and their BitTorrent filters.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Not to mention tentacle porn... huh? wha? who said that??
- FearlessFreep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14You have offended my family name. I will kill you
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Im still waiting for The Wired
(Lain reference) - dirigibleduck, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15A Japanese postmodern internet? It's like they're trying to make those creepy anime series come to life. What's next, gigantic eye implants and psychedelic morphing shower scenes?
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I thought China was the one doing all the censoring, not japan.
- Bajeda, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Post-Internet technology?? Is someone getting ahead of themselves?
- RavagesOfTime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Digg, but I still want my giant robot.
- shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12they do have their own version of freenet, by the way. it's so underground that it sorta rivals BT and FN. It's kinda cool. The guy that started it was thrown in jail and never heard from again.
With the files on there, I can sorta understand why. No way to trace, no way to index. You just have to know where to look. But it's there... a true undernet. - Scheissen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11um no Japan censors anything about what they did in World War II and they censor the genitals.
- Wuzizname, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Super Happy Sparkle Rainbow Meguu-Supuu-Powufuu Internetu!
- DarkDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Umm, they don't censor it, they deny it. There is a huge difference, if their government went around killing people and throwing them into political prisons for that, then it would be different.
- Genma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9what a pointless article.
- josegutz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I think Al Gore may have something to do with this nonsense...
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I'm assuming the second step would somehow involve godzilla stomping out the old internet.
- Ajajadude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yeah, cause, we all know that two separate entities like the internet would NEVER have any compatibility issues.
Standardized internet isn't a bad thing, internet service providers with monopolies are. - Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Noooo there gonna censor our porn
- ha1f, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I refuse to accept anything that replaces the internet from a place that censors their porn.
- NikoKun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Had the government and corporations known what the internet would have become, back when it was starting... They never would have allowed it to live as it did.
Any "new" network, that they can come up with, will only be squashed here in the states... -_- That's why I think a free user to user network needs to be created in the states... free and no more control... - FearlessFreep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm pretty impressed that you posted that through Compuserv, you know
- DarkDragon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7China != Japan
- Never, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Censor our porn? The Japanese? Haha!
- PhonicUK, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I've never seen a government go so far to keep it's own citizens in the dark.
Oh, wait... - 4degrees, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6i wonder if the Japanese will use tubes to implement this internet...
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5no, we'll get more bukkake.
- Andrewmatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It means that he wants to show you his pokemans. I have teh seaking and a mudkipz if you are interested.
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No, and Japan isn't the only place working on changing things:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GENI_-_Global_Environment_for_Network_Innovations
The current internet infrastructure has many problems that are inherent in the design. The biggest example is all those 'down at only 30 diggs' stories. Yea there's cheap servers to blame, but the network doesn't handle the traffic too well either.
There has been talk about clean-slate architecture for a long time. - oilcan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6they're TUBES not WIRES
- cryptomystic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Everyone gets connected....everyone gets connected....
- LucasVB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Hoboes finally burned it down?
http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/03/smoking-kills-internet2/
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/03/internet2_fire/ - piratearggghhh, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Sorry Japan, I've been to CalIT2 and the San Diego Supercomputer Center, they're already laying down the pipes for the next gen Internet that can stream something like 200 megapixels of data in real time - already tested successfully across several supercomputer centers and research universities in the US - see http://cg.calit2.uci.edu/mediawiki/index.php/Research_Projects:_HIPerWall
