- giddytonk, on 01/07/2008, -35/+113Now even more Mac (iPhone) like.
- ricodued, on 01/07/2008, -12/+78I want to call fake on it. No way Microsoft would make Word with that tiny-ass toolbar.
Yes, I played the FAKE! card. I apologize. - CaptainAO, on 01/07/2008, -5/+64Now where have I seen those interface elements before...
- monkeycatDx, on 01/07/2008, -7/+60Next Time Just Say "Bury Me"
- Dylson, on 01/07/2008, -9/+54Watch this: BURY ME AHH APPLE SUCKS MICROSOFT FTW
- chazza125, on 01/07/2008, -1/+26But then everyone would digg him....
- macman117, on 01/07/2008, -14/+36isn't that what Microsoft does
- Mackofalltrades, on 01/07/2008, -8/+29I dugg you cuz thats true. Now watch this. ***** Ron Paul now bury me you Republican voting pussies.
- macintalk, on 01/07/2008, -9/+28Guess which product of the year it's inspired by...
- ricodued, on 01/07/2008, -2/+16That would be incredibly intuitive and user-friendly. Right.
- xqb4dpx, on 01/07/2008, -0/+13i thought it said Windows 7, i was gonna bust a nut
- lolgamoff, on 01/07/2008, -1/+14I don't know about you, but I think WM6 is pretty functional.
- blergle, on 01/07/2008, -1/+12Doesn't matter because Windows Mobile is not limited to a specific phone chassis. If you want a real keyboard, buy a phone with one built in like the HTC TyTn II or similar, otherwise buy one without.
iPhone has no options - you either like the standard model or you don't. There is no choice. - Jay105, on 01/07/2008, -3/+14Its Microsoft.
- Yarnage, on 01/07/2008, -0/+10If you READ the article you would note that the author believes it was just for the mock-up. Obviously Microsoft would not put the exact same Ribbon on Mobile Word without making it easily usable on a small screen 9either through a different interface or intuitive magnification).
- wontstoptalking, on 01/07/2008, -0/+10That's the exact same thing you posted when I submitted this. Do you just say that to every post in the Microsoft section?
- theholyraptor, on 04/07/2008, -0/+9don't knock other peoples fetishes.
- MrPig, on 01/07/2008, -2/+11What would Apple have done without Microsoft.
- ariez84, on 01/07/2008, -2/+11You people at Digg will never get it. Companies take other companies idea and improved upon it. Microsoft have done this, Apple have done this, and so have every single company that want to stay competitive. And this is one case...the few things WM7 took from Apple's was the full page browser (which is awesome one the iPhone) and the flickering. The virtual keyboard was on a lot of touch screen before iPhone.
Apple copied RIM menu and improved upon it. (One icon per application). And since the iPhone is pretty much a form over factor device, (You cant do ***** with it except a few basic things) im almost certain it will improve some features of WM7 (I dont know like Copy and Paste funtion) - Wesside, on 01/07/2008, -2/+11OMG the Keyboard I use on my Windows PC looks like a Keyboard that you could use on a Mac.
- TomP, on 01/07/2008, -3/+11Are you sure you want to dial the emergency services?
- cwestpha, on 01/07/2008, -4/+12Wow if this is what windows mobile 7 is going to be like its going to be cool. Oh wait MS still needs to work on performance and responsiveness. I love ya windows mobile (had an MDA and Wing in the past) but you need work on your UI and performance.
At the vary least this should give Apple the chance to copy MS again with more new features (copy and paste, cropping options in camera, etc) for an iPhone firmware update.
(admit it fanboys, both companies copy like IP law doesn't apply to them.) - blergle, on 01/07/2008, -5/+13Of course Apple would never do that. *cough* Konfabulator *cough*
They also didn't invent multi-touch for the iPhone, however they would like you to believe that. - bs0l, on 01/07/2008, -1/+9I just buried you because that was too long.
- hashmoney, on 01/07/2008, -17/+25It looks like a pain in ass. It will most likely require some uberphone to run it. And it will ask you via dialog box if you want to use the phone.
- Wesside, on 01/07/2008, -0/+8Cause you know, the iPhone has tons of functionality...after you hack it.
- ravi7791, on 01/07/2008, -3/+11How is one suppose to use those toolbars in that pic with word?
- Stalks, on 01/07/2008, -2/+9Buried. Blocked. Check his previous comments, he's an idiot.
- Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+7I wont even answer that one. If anyone cannot admit it, they are fooling only themselves.
- kf6zql, on 01/07/2008, -3/+10The browser looks like sawfish (beta ie for windows mobile right now, private though) so I'd say probably
- TheLoneWolf071, on 01/07/2008, -4/+11Look like it's been modified to look like Vista with the darker windows and the smoothness. I just hope it's not the same resource hog vista is... that's the Crux of this whole thing is that we would love for it to look nice, but functionality on most platforms is better. If you can only run it on phones that cost $600+, your isolating a lot of people, but if you make it so that it'll run on almost all smart phones, you'll have yourself a winner.
- manitoba98xp, on 01/07/2008, -2/+8No, he means the "rubber band" scrolling and the magnifying bubble with touch-screen and the magnifying keys on the on-screen keyboard. Maybe not all original ideas, but that they "suddenly" appear months after the iPhone's release is more than slightly suspicious (if this is real, which I doubt).
But if this is real, at least it shows that Apple is able to inspire progress from Microsoft. Even if you don't like Apple products, you have to appreciate that they can get Microsoft moving again. - Ireland, on 01/07/2008, -0/+6The Zune "isn't" on that list.
- lordsandwich, on 01/07/2008, -2/+8Ironically, a hacked iPhone is much more stable than Windows Mobile when both are running 3rd-party apps.
- urbanclock, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6So in other words you have no idea what in the ***** you are talking about
- toxicityj, on 01/07/2008, -0/+6am i the only one that doesn't see any resemblance between it and the iphone? it looks like someone shrunk Vista and retains some features it had in previous versions. previous versions that were around long before the iphone.
- IndigoMoss, on 01/07/2008, -1/+6Exactly, when a company sees something that is innovative and makes an existing product better, they will try to add it to their product. It goes both ways, even if the fanatics don't think so. It's called progress.
- ronmexico, on 01/07/2008, -0/+5I'm just waiting for someone to complain about the touch keyboard not having tactile response. Oh but that probably doesn't apply to non Apple phones though. /sarc
- xqb4dpx, on 01/07/2008, -3/+7Even if you hate Apple, you have to admit to like the resulting industry after their recent explosion. Every company had to step up its game too, and I think that's ***** awesome. This phone looks ***** sweet.
- manitoba98xp, on 01/07/2008, -4/+8True, but they were the first to get it to market. Many ideas don't come from corporate research labs, but from universities, then corporate R&D makes it into an actual product.
- se1zure, on 01/07/2008, -0/+4yeah all those features look cool...
but then again so did the longhorn preview we got around 2002, and look what longhorn evolved into... - galtish, on 01/07/2008, -1/+5From the article:
"Notice Word Mobile. It has the Office 2007 Ribbon, but it appears to be lifted directly from Word 2007 and far too small to be used on a mobile device. Assume that this was put in for the mockup, and not an actual application screenshot, but also assume that they are going in the direction of a Ribbon-based user interface for Office Mobile."
Also from the article:
"This document is a confidential internal use only document, used to explain the plans for Mobile 7, and contains well over a hundred pages of designs, ideas, and changes to the way we interact with our mobile devices."
....the OS was still in early development at the time the document was generated so it is very likely that many/most of these screen shots are mockups used to explain the dev efforts. - pnmoore, on 01/07/2008, -2/+5Do you really remember web pages from 1995? Nothing out from a major player looks that bad...
- Dylson, on 01/07/2008, -2/+5I like what I see. I just hope it isn't dog slow like all the other versions of windows mobile.
- Zaggynl, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4"Someone's trying to touch me, Cancel or Allow?"
- jonahan52, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4Look up Apple Newton.
- Soave, on 01/07/2008, -6/+9Meh, Microsoft showed off Surface a while ago.
- ronaldsze, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4Vista looks nice too but what ? runs like a crow
- veeshy, on 01/07/2008, -1/+4what?! and my blackjack still doesn't have support for windows mobile 6! :(
- anillop, on 01/07/2008, -0/+2that was almost clever
