- AJH16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Or more likely, they all just know each other. The tech journalling community is fairly tight knit. Its entirely possible that the reason that those blogs had postings are because they are the ones who have the closest relationships with Webb and so she told them about it first and asked if they could help spread the word. Doesn't seem like anything sinister. Most of Webb's stuff seems to be decent anyway.
- Sarki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Disclosure? You mean like this one, right on their site?

"The important thing to stress is that there's NO editorial element to these traffic-sharing relationships. In other words, I have made no commitments to cover stories on their blogs, nor have they made commitments to cover what I do. But since these are all blogs that I endorse, respect, and read daily, you'll probably see me talking about stories in them on a fairly regular basis. Just be assured that none of these blogs have paid me for this coverage - because none of these blogs ever have, nor in all likelihood ever will pay me anything." - walt100, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Perhaps the reason the initial buzz is from Federated Media affiliates is because they were some of the first to hear about the new site? After all, Federated Media sent out an e-mail to its publishers with news of the new show.
Not everything is a conspiracy. - dtrinh, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6"Out of the 7 links, 4 are FM blogs or 57%. And the ad in the middle comes from FM blog ArsTechnica. This is disappointing at best."
How on earth is that disappointing? Here's a gander: perhaps a lot of quality news sources use FM? God forbid, an advertising service becomes so good it attracts a lot of popular customers...
- str3ama, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4the article is suggesting that they're getting payola to talk and promote about FederatedMedia publishers, it means losing objectivity. It's the reason why Payola for radio stations is illegal, yet still occurring today (because it's profitable). It's the reason why those review-me advertising services for blogs is controversial - it means losing objectivity and favouring sites using FM. In lieu of Digg opting out of Federated Media, FM may be resorting to more crafty and sneaky tactics to bolster profits (assuming this story is true).
- bigbluemachine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I look forward to seeing how WebbAlert works out. While having one more site to check on a regular basis is a bit daunting the idea of taking in a dosage of Ms. Webb, tech and world news WITHOUT having to go do anything with G4. Is it just me? Or does G4 seem like that girl at a party everyone has had a turn on and just being next to them puts you at risk to contract something awfully dirty. Now the whole FM part of this just seems like some serious stretching. I don't see an issue with FM especially with the the full on disclosure issued for one and all to see.
- eradicator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They do important work, making sure that you get to see a snorg girl at least five times a day.
- jeffyjones, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2FM authors are not getting any magical Digg preference. I am an FM author, and I can assure you no one is digging up stories (let alone contributing them) from CoasterBuzz.com.
FM is good people. They're not selling much for me, but I also have one of the smallest sites they represent. - scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I don't know what the ***** you just said.
- OrenWolf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Um, there *is* full disclosure! Did you read any of the site other than the video? http://webbalert.com/whatsthis.html
Summary: Morgan likes a lot of FM blogs, but she isn't obligated to report on them, nor them on her. It just happened to be a good fit. - test5477, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2big fan of Morgan, wish her well in this.
- Icefreez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No picture of Morgan Webb! Bury!!!

- ahhell, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Who the hell is Federated Media and why should I give a *****?
- GabrielS, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Is Federated Media the old UGO gone bust but now has a new name and a new scheme to operate?

What is Digg?
