- stronglikedan, on 02/20/2008, -1/+200No, it will not be a PDF killer...far from it.
PDF's dominance is not in distribution of documents on teh interwebs. PDF's dominance is in the print industry where there is nearly no competition to the format. So no. - EvanVolm, on 02/20/2008, -1/+177iM iSick iOf iEverything iStarting iWith iAn ii.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+99There's already Foxit, Skim and Preview( on MacOS) and many others.
- volksport, on 02/20/2008, -28/+118I welcome our new PDF overlords (anything to get rid of Acrobat).
- ElBeh, on 02/20/2008, -4/+86Foxit Reader works really well and is about six times faster.
- DevinOlsen, on 02/20/2008, -6/+88Foxit is still my favorite. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
- Jayg28, on 02/20/2008, -5/+78iPaper is an Adobe Flash application....meh.
- DirtyFrank, on 02/20/2008, -1/+72Original Name.
- AHHHHH, on 02/20/2008, -9/+75Simply, no.
- wiifm69, on 02/20/2008, -1/+65kind of like opening a digg page
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -10/+68"I don't open PDFs on anything but my mac..."
God mac users are obnoxious... - prosayik, on 02/20/2008, -0/+47Right indeed.
If anything, this is a Flash Paper killer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macromedia_FlashPaper
Oh wait, Adobe already killed it. Okay, so this is a Flash Paper zombie gun. - jesuswuzanalien, on 02/20/2008, -6/+44This comment brought to you by Jesuswuzanalien.
- colincornaby, on 02/20/2008, -0/+37This doesn't look like a PDF replacement to me. First, there's nothing wrong with the PDF format itself, just Acrobat really. Second, this isn't a real application, just a way of embedding a document in a page. I use PDF a lot for saving print jobs and so forth to be printed later, and this doesn't address that at all. Third, you don't seem to be able to select text, which is kind of a big problem.
- TheRealToma, on 02/20/2008, -0/+34I sincerely hope that adblock will be compatible with it.
- PxCxG, on 02/20/2008, -15/+46Actually, Acrobat Reader 8 works really well and only takes a second to open in a browser.
- Quilik, on 02/20/2008, -4/+34To hell with PDF's... ditch the "i" and pass it around!
- fkr3, on 02/20/2008, -3/+31Digg doesn't crash but it sure takes it's sweet ***** time loading. Digg's the slowest, most bloated site I use, and their on-going solution is to distract the audience rather than deal with the problem. The site doesn't need 100+ kilobytes of javascript to handle the half-dozen transitions they have, the sooner they realise that and employ some professionals to code the site instead of the proven-retards behind it now, the better.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -12/+39Every time I open a pdf in acrobat the library computer freezes. iPaper is only 100kb. Even this '02 gateway can handle 100kb.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -2/+29I don't think it's Apple.
- edaz323, on 02/20/2008, -4/+31Sarcasm?
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+29uninstall adobe and install foxit, best move ive ever done
- fkr3, on 02/20/2008, -0/+24I'm sceptical about anything purely-web based replacing PDF, especially crap with this as a "feature".... "you can't download, upload, or email an iPaper document". All iPaper is is a compatibility-bridge between embedded Office documents and users without Office.
- lukas88, on 02/20/2008, -1/+25The PDF format is not what needs abandoned, just the software. Foxit works great.
- nogami, on 02/20/2008, -0/+23So... uh... how exactly does it work if you want to view documents offline, or on computers with no network connection?
Oh. Right. It doesn't work. At all. So... not really a PDF killer then, is it... - weizbox, on 02/20/2008, -0/+23embedded flash document viewer != pdf killer....
i don't even see how it could, pdf is portable.... the only options with this are print or send to friend - dojonz, on 02/20/2008, -0/+22iKnow.
- likwidfuzion, on 02/20/2008, -2/+23Like iCare.
- yoshman, on 02/20/2008, -0/+19You all know you want to "shock the monkey" or "swat the fly" when you're reading documents from your school or doing research. I mean, who doesn't?
- Chromium24, on 02/20/2008, -1/+18iYou iSaid iIt, iBrother.
- toxicityj, on 02/20/2008, -0/+16icant believe people still think isomething is still clever or intelligent.
- MasterThief117, on 02/20/2008, -1/+16Ads in the text? Hmm, I wonder when Adblock is going to have a feature to take care of this.
- cbuddha42, on 02/20/2008, -2/+17Please, no more file formats. Plus it's just a bloody copy of a pdf; it looks exactly the same. And do we really need more things to "stream" in our browsers? I really don't want more things downloading and running in my browser. Hopefully it's smart enough to continuously re download the application, but it's still unnecessary bloat in the web page. What if I don't want to have to open my browser to see the document? Or heaven forbid I'm not connected to the internet?
Download foxit, download firefox's pdf downloader addon, and quit making more unnecessary file formats to bog down our machines more as we try and support all of them. - dusanmal, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14Have you heard of non-adobe readers that skip all the wasteful hoopla? Problem is not in the format but in Adobe software, thankfully OpenSource exists and works miracles.
- DannoSpeaks, on 02/20/2008, -0/+14Ads in documents? No thanks. I'll stick with PDFs and FoxIt Reader
- pltnz64, on 02/20/2008, -0/+13ADOBE Acrobat.... and Foxit is NOT open source.
- bloodqc, on 02/20/2008, -0/+12PDF don't suck, adobe acrobat do. use foxit.
don't we have enough ads online? - ravensncrows, on 02/20/2008, -3/+15WTF is this? 2002? why the ***** are people still putting little i's in front of words? that was lame five years ago
seriously, these companies need to hire some marketing morons that keep in touch with the present - bootle, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11I'm curious how PDF, an open format, can ever be killed...
- Darkhacker, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11I prefer PDF. I like being able to download the file to my hard drive and viewing it with a number of different applications. If I don't like one PDF viewer, I can use another.
- Laibcoms, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10Its not the PDF killer and I doubt anyone will bother killing PDF. PDF is already an ISO Standard. The only company the world knows that tries to wage war with ISO Standards is Microsoft's OOXML vs the ISO Standard ODF.
- Protoss, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10Pass papers around? WTH?
- binaryloop, on 02/20/2008, -1/+11"iPaper also lets you put ads in documents for the first time ever."
Wow. Just what I've always wanted. I can't ***** wait. - DeathJux, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10Besides the fact that it's not Apple, Preview works about a grillion times better than anything Adobe I've used for reading PDFs.
- thenumber8, on 02/20/2008, -2/+12haha its not apple, you are an idiot.
- kentifer, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10i don't think it works like that.
- Gabberwok, on 02/20/2008, -4/+13For any Mac users out there, specifically the scientifically-inclined, "Papers" is a great application for organizing your PDFs. It was written by a couple of bio ph.d.'s and integrates with PubMed and a bunch of other databases. It's still a little buggy since it was written by amateurs, but it's pretty fantastic.
