Is Gmail Starting to Give 15 Gigs?

googlesystem.blogspot.com — Some users of Google Apps for Your Domain report that their Gmail accounts have 15 GB of storage space. There are at least two people who noticed it, so it's hard to consider this a mistake.

    • Daedalus17, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7It has a cap on the size of attachments you can add. So unless you are willing to chop up your movies into dozens of pieces then Gmail is pretty much useless for what you are talking about.

    Why not give out 20gb? How about 150gb? 2tb? Hell, they could make it say anything they want it to; nobody's going to come even close to filling it. :)

    • OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1gmail has been resisting allowing IMAP access (POP and web only right now) because it could turn the account into a general purpose storage system. Plus IMAP is rather slow at going through lots of messages.

      It would be amusing to write a Linux filesystem driver for FS-over-IMAP though.

    I'd rather have just 2-3 gigs and uptime, as opposed to 15 gigs and much downtime.

    Never had any downtime with yahoo mail yet.

  • miraclebaby, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3this is a crack-up -- i'm one of the 2 people who noticed. Everybody in my domain now has 15 GB. We also have 25 accounts now, instead of the original ten. Right now I'm currently using 78 MB (1%) of my 15360 MB.
  • JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0u know i'm using gmail and liking it, but i'm also having problems with it....e mails sent to it from comcast for example are delayed for up to a half hour sometimes...and also on a rare occassion or two the emails i've sent from g mail have been delayed for believe it or not a few days...anyone else havin these problems?

It's a "slap in the face" to see my OWN submission ignored, only to see it resurface via a "popular" user and secondary source. Afterall, it is MY blog entry and HARD WORK which started this circus of discussion within the blogosphere to begin with.
