- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+99no no no...IE was COMPLETELY SAFE TO USE for over 80 days in 2006!!! Let's try to stay positive here, people.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+58Marked as inaccurate, IE hasn't ever been safe.
- jaredvolkl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+42Quote from the article "In contrast, Internet Explorer's closest competitor in terms of market share -- Mozilla's Firefox browser -- experienced a single period lasting just nine days last year in which exploit code for a serious security hole was posted online before Mozilla shipped a patch to remedy the problem." Makes me proud to be a Firefox user. They didn't mention any other browsers though. It just would be interesting to see. I'm willing to bet none of them were open anywhere near 284 days.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36Internet explorer is more about a windows update client than a browser.
- modiggs1976, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26In other news, Opera is very unsafe. All those dang flying Wiimotes.
- Stephenishere, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24This kinda reminds me of when i was in a dell lab, they had rows and rows of computers. All of a sudden one turned off. We turned it back on, a little later 4 turned off, 16, 64, and on and on. Before we knew it, every pc in the lab had msblaster. That was one hell of a day....
- modiggs1976, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24So that legend I heard of the guy banging 284 zoo animals in one year is true.
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23IE is never safe.
- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Actually that means that it wasn't proven to be unsafe from the point of view of security experts, but we all know that the absence of proof doesn't prove the contrary.
- plunkettt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15come on, I'm a mac user myself, but try to be above senseless bashing.
284 out of 365 is enough that you don't have to make blanket statements like that - Stephenishere, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Yeah then everyone will use Firefox and it will be come public enemy number one...
IE7 Is a VAST improvement on security, but needs to improve its speed.
If MS switched to Firefox, I'm using Opera... - Predicament, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16No, actually the title doesn't really say *****. Thanks though.
- colinm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Bill says: "81 days ought to be enough for anybody"
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Ahem your term? Do you have a user name dedicated to that? No. I should threaten you with random legal action.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8So why should every computer user have to be an expert just to go online? Why not just use a safe browser?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9If the "title says it all", is there really any need for the subtitle to express that? That and pwned are the most ridiculous and over-used cliches ever.
- killercow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You mean how apache is being the main target for webservers, since it has 70+% marketshare?
- nobogeys217, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5somebody wasted time stating the obvious
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4iPhoto is not a web browser - how many people do you know that actually subscribe to Photocasts?
- AhmedOmran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5A friend of mine installed a fresh copy of Windows XP, went online to grab a virus scanner, and got the blaster worm in under one minute on connecting.
- dvorachek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You couldn't even post a blurb from the article in your summary? "Title says it all" is just plain lazy. Please join me in marking lame any article with a summary like that.
- DuoPros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Worst. Virus. Ever.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4no, the article isn't stupid. Fanboyism, sure. But stating cold hard facts about the security track record of a company and of a piece of software..especially one that accesses the web, is important. Just b/c ie7 is out doesn't mean it's days are over.
People tend to forget the corporate element where MOST of your computers are. and this is the area where upgrading and migration and change of standards take forever. For just like government.. or any organization too big.. things just move slowly. lots of red tape, lots of yes men with de facto standards. When you're talking group policy that might not work well with ie7 yet, when you're talking millions of online applications built in house that are only designed to work with ie6, you're looking at a majority of people still on IE6. and system admin need to be reminded the dangers they're placing company data and access to their network.. just b/c their bosses and bosses bosses seem to trust the big corporate name and everything that goes along with that.
That's the world the browser market needs to capture in terms of IE7, Firefox, Opera, (or if we're talking other Oses.. Konq and safari). and that's also why MS's % will not drop but so low no matter how much of small business and home use all these other browsers obtain. - Rhelim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Excuse me, I'm sorry, but the title "doesn't say it all." Please, from now on, explain the story when you're asked to fill out the explanation part. kthx.
- AhmedOmran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@brzen:
That's what we did afterwards :)
(Trust me, I suggested Linux, but he didn't feel like it..) - Sfmobius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hate to say it but this isn't "new" news. IE6 was rife w/tons of errors and the only reason MS decided to update it was the gaining popularity of Firefox. In an age of instant gratification, people no longer are tied to a crappy product.
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Whats this about ie7's speed? All the tests I saw put it at about level (some faster, actually) than firefox. I use firefox, though- love me some extensions.
- Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It's called sarcasm mcatrage, he was pretending to be a Sony exec :)
- Stephenishere, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I had a hidden camera set up and found him on one of those days...
http://www.compfused.com/directlink/4271/ (NSFW) - beatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The title does not say it all. The OP is just too lazy to think of a brief summary.
- streetlamp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5284 days of just published and well known security flaws, those other days some holes still existed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2theres a lot of people with wrong minds still.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
when some pencil neck
That's such a brilliant comment to make on Digg. What did you expect to accomplish?
Why don't you run along and go reinstall Windows one more time. That's real man's work! Mrrar! Windows! Tough! - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is simply unacceptable.
- superKduper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6iPhoto was unsafe for 365 days last year!
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Heh, Internet Explorer 7 is faster than Firefox in almost every way, though he does have a small point.
Internet Explorer 7, while it did improve script execution speed vastly compared to its predecessor, is overall slower than IE6. In particular, CSS rendering is slower by quite a bit; while IE6 is faster than any given version of Firefox almost across the board (with the major exception of script speed), IE7 loses ground to Firefox in the rendering speed department.

That's why I use Opera. - PueSi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Internet Explorer 6 was a big piece of ***** still I think it's OK to have it installed by default with windows to download Firefox.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In America, IE exploits you!
In Soviet Russia, You exploit IE. - chaiulud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yet I used it all year long, as I have every year since Netscape 4. No viruses, no BHO's I didn't specifically want, no problems. I spend a lot of my free time browsing for new and interesting tech as part of my job. The machine I use is outside of our Websense/FW-1 border, (because a lot of tech sites are blocked internally) behind a netgear DI-804HV. Actually, now that I think about it, I haven't had a virus problem since Melissa, @home or work.
I think anyone who has trouble running a Windows computer, and keeping it virus/spyware/trouble free, probably needs a service like AOL or maybe the Geeksquad.
Of course, I have to qualify this commentary, by saying I love my Macbook Pro. :) And yes, I dual boot on it. (for now...testing VMWare Fusion :) ) - MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stephen, I'm sending you my medical bill for having my gut having to be surgically repaired for laughing so hard.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FTP.
- dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so u're telling me that people feel safe during the other 81 days?! i dont think so..
- quakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FireFox rulez.
Using IE is a big unnecessary risk.
I used to program adware on my previous job (I am really sorry) and I know.
p.s.
You have a task:
http://1daycareer.com/?task=72 - dethblud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If the title says it all, why would we need to click through to the article? It is really not hard to copy and paste a blurb from the article when submitting the story.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure, Microsoft will agree to disagree on this thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2who cares .. no one with a right mind uses IE these days....
- Tandaemonium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right on. Would you look at that? [happydance]Positive press for Microsoft![/happydance]
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@Stephenishere
I am alredy using opera. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All hail Firefox!
- StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Theme Firefox to look like ie then at least you wont be open to all the IE holes
