- elusive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yeah, sure. And while we're at it, lets do away with requiring warrants for searching homes. If you are not doing anything wrong why would it matter? Perhaps we should put cameras in all homes, too. Just to make it easier to catch the bad guys.

Wow, people can save chat logs. What a great news story. - jimmyblake, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16As is your comment, Sir.
- ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10only because both hands WEREN'T on the keyboard, but a little ... lower.
- rorrison, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9From the article: "'We've got to prove that the instant-messaging session occurred and that Foley's hands ... (were) on his keyboard,'' Rasch said.'
That may be difficult. - GameCat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I think it was Oliver North who said:
"We thought that when the delete button was pressed the message was gone for good. Boy were we wrong." - lilricky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.drudgereport.com/page.htm
- norz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed, this is information that most of digg readers already know, but it's a quite good summary nevertheless.
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am not sure that is an entirely credible theory, Haplo. It is not very difficult to change your writing style if you really desire to do so.
for reals its fukkin easy and *****! fukkin idiots think they can catch ne1 like that is stupid yo
It;s pretty simple to change it up, someone just adopt;s a style and sticks with it, plus they throw in some typos and make sure they;re always the same. - Haplo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Easier then you think. People have a signature when they write. If there is sufficient writing, it might be possible to recognize the style (I recently read Blink, and this signature is called a 'fist'. A very good read btw).
I can 'hear' people when I chat with them, and people who chat a lot with people who change their nicks now and then probably can confirm that after a few lines they recognize the person despite of the different nick. - logic11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@jamble
Methinks perhaps you don't get it.
Right now, there is a lot of dispute over this admin, regarding a slide into totalitarionism, but they haven't gone the full Nazi stormtrooper route. Another administration might. One of the big reasons for privacy laws, is that if a government is heading in that direction, privacy will allow the populace to forment rebellion (plus, it is just better to keep the ***** out of your life). It also allows people to do things that might not be acceptable to the administration but are still legal (i.e.; someone is gay in a very religiously oppressive climate, they can still live their life without the fear of stormtroopers hauling them off).
Privacy is one of the most important rights you have, it ranks right up there with freedom of speech. If you remove it, then whether or not Bush & co. prove to be a problem, some future administration will almost definately use the lack of privacy to evil ends (for the record, I believe that Bush & co. are trying to do just that, but that isn't the point of the argument for privacy rights) - ntufar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17 years ago somebody used my login name and password and insulted a government official on online chat. A complaint was filled and it took 6 court hearings to prove me innocent. It scared me to death, I could get 3 years in prison.
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Hey,
Deleting something with the inbuilt Windows delete (I specify Windows as I'm not sure if some other OS, and I'm sure there's one, that automaticaly overwrites the files you delete with 0s), doesn't entierly erase it!
Seriously, why is everyone so technologicaly inept? Surely it isn't a great leap of thought that with the many data recovery firms around that there are ways to retrive deleted data?
I tell you, when all these old tossers die and people that have actually used computers seriously for more than five minutes are in power (Some geeks want to be politicians, right?... Please?), it will be a lot harder to find out they're secretly chatting up the ickle boys and talking about their cute arses. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3What Maf54 Said To The Page Boy

If you're doing nothing wrong then by and large, there's no problem. - awok, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3What a bunch of utterly worthless comments...
