- cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm checking my email all the time now for this damn invite :(
Anyone who can send me one, I can give you 99 GMail invites, a piece of string and two buttons in return :) - KicktheDonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Maybe you don't...
- pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm skeptical, it looks like democracy player to me and there are no good channels to watch.
- dvirsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I saw it in action today, and it's pretty impressive.
The picture quality is excellent and the UI looks great, although it has a few small usability problems.
I only used for a few minutes on a coworker's computer, so didn't have really enough time to estimate the quality of the content, but the app as a whole is really impressive. - ocellnuri, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I can't wait to close out my Cable TV account. Looks like my MythTV box will turn into a Venice box.
- muffins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I bet Kevins got invites. Someone grab his legs I'll get the rope and whip.
- tvnews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4There are some new exclusive screenshots that just appeared on digg here too. It also describes some serious problems with the Venice Project such as the extremely jumpy video, high CPU usage and poor GUI.

Still I cant help feel excited about this. Next year I might be able to drop cable altogether!
Also The Venice Project released their own screenshots a few days ago:

- lothar250, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I do also have a beta account for the venice project... It seems to become a pretty cool app, but at the moment there's nothing on x.x some paris hilton flicks that nobody cares about, spring break stuff and more uninteresting things
- muffins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If there is an invite floatin' around out there: muffins [at] gmail [dot] com

- Initech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So eventually I will be able to watch Lost and talk to others who are watching Lost at the same time? If they do this right it will take over how people watch television!!

i'm currently waiting to try out verizon fios tv....i have the fios service, but tv isnt available here yet...this might make me hold off on that.... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Completely off topic...A guy I know borrowed Janus $10000 some six years ago...that was back when Janus was starting up a new business...Skype...He got quite a few shares in return....needless to say this guy I know doesn't have to work anymore...ever...

- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
I can't wait to close out my Cable TV account.
Yes, it's about time these monopolist crooks got what they deserved. $60 for *basic* digital cable, $40 for lame-ass - papereira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I haven't received it yet. You send it? Send again, please.
- papereira, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'll give a TL invite to someone who invites me to The Venice Project. (Same as digg username, @yahoo.com)
- kungfuice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This looks very interesting. I can't wait to see where these guys go with the project, and if the media companies will embrace it
- balldee93, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I have an invite. I thought it was public beta...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gotcha....enjoy :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6well for now there's http://www.freetube.us.tc
it's the best out of the lot of aggregated tv sites, but really the whole success of IPTV depends on net neutrality - so if you enjoy watching videos or even tv online, you better hope that the net neutrality laws pass. - overksam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i find it slow on my computer, and actually dont like the channels.
- wrnj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can someone explain whats the difference between this and stuff like TVUPlayer.com and SopCast? I mean, ive been watching american cable chans on those for a 2 months now.
- castrokike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SHARE!!!!!!! WE ARE DIEING FOR ONE OF THOSE!!!!!!
- librejustitia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Until this goes live, I recommend PPLive. A chinese application, streams a ton of programs; soccer leagues, manga, american/korean/japanese/chinese movies and so on.
Review from Softonic:
hxxp://pplive.en.softonic.com/ie/42084 (Note, the interface is no longer in chinese, and it has got a complete facelift.)

thanks in advance - castrokike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0-.-
- lofye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm in the beta and it's great.
I won't say much because of the Agreement Terms etc, but I will say a bit...
The interface is very similar, visually, to Apple's Aperture.
Slick.
I haven't had any buffering issues... it just keeps playing, and playing smoothly.
There are some social features built in, and they're kind of neat.
There's an interaction layer available that you don't get with normal TV.
It has a kind of TiVo functionality, too.
I'm particular about my software, but this is shaping up to be verrrry sweet.... especially for people who don't have the money or inclination to pay for cable (i.e. students, independent media whores, and people who only watch 1 or 2 shows a week) - teddyd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Let's see.
The Venice Project is trying to create some buzz about a product still in early beta and with screenshots that are frankly not that exclusive and not that special.
Please do not take the geek scene for morons. We are capable of realizing when a company is trying to create buzz for a commercial product. And please do not BS me with your 'disruptive', 'P2P' buzzwords.
OK, make a good product. And let me know when ready. But please no more TVP *****. - BarneyXP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Please send me an invite token: barneyxp [at] gmail [dot] com
- JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oooo! Do share!
- theartistspeaks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i would have to agree that this is a lot of hype. just like what Skype did with their promotion for 15 bucks/ free unlimited calling US/Canada for one year announcement in November. Only thing is that their CC payments don't exactly work until you're a buyer for 3 months. they prefer you use paypal or moneydigger or something like that. and of course they want you to use paypal because of ebay. (case u didnt know, skype was bought for a couple of billion by ebay) anyway. too much hype doesnt do a company any good unless there's actual content there to back it up. that's my two cents, however.
Btw, I tried ABCs go player for tv when they were playing daybreak and the nine and it was slow like crazy, and now i'm using CBS' innertube and i gotta tell you, it's pretty fast. I read this article about it a while ago: check out the Businessweek article from this summer: http://tinyurl.com/zyelv -
