Admin taking opinions on the new Digg - Outdoor83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Digg's got a good idea, others try to make imitations. Look at Apple's reaction to the Zune. No need to say anything: just keep making better products. If all you can do is imitate, you're always a step behind the best.
- greycap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I can't wait to post about this on my new blog CrunchyTech!
- slatez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10man, check out this thread in their forums:

"Interesting. I read somewhere else that Digg's time in the limelight could come to an end soon as they run out of steam"
lol! - Flooded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@sirloin:
This would be because the company that designed the mozilla site also designed digg. Silverorange designed both sites. There are bound to be similar elements if they are designed by the same artist. No conspiracy here. - sn00kie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Omg there = their, (hits himself in the head)
- noah45, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14This seems very hoaxy.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's one thing to open a fast-food joint that has the same menu as McDonald's. It's a whole different ballpark to open a fast-food joint named McDoogle's, give it big yellow arches, and a clown mascot. You get the idea here?
No one cares that there is another Digg clone on the web. Most of us are happy about them. What's ***** annoying is that this site copying Digg to the Tee. Damn near using the same graphics even. That's just wrong. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6CAPITAL LETTERS
- stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"and probably isn't censored as Digg often is."
WTF happened to the stories below?

They were all censored. And unlike superGu (***** up name BTW) digg doesn't censor criticism. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11... so when is someone going to hack it? I BELIEVE!
- extratwice, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7wow, vote or sink... that makes so much sense.
Digg is to bury as vote is to sink, I think i got that right on my SAT. - ABadInAlbany, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7WTF is this?

and incidentally:

http://domeupthearse.supergu.com/ - GamingNews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Check out the top users list on getgui.com - Looks like actual digg users. lmao
- stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4lol, I have a felling that Mr. James Phelps will get a lot of spam real soon.
- Smog2k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Supergu.com can cut and paste code with the best of them.
*suggestions to make the site blow up* - neoknight, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@spiderland
Haven't you heard about how digg operates yet. Only 'popular' people with 'popular' 'blogs' get dugg to the front page. blogs like techcrunch etc..everyone else who submits a story and if its from a blog and comes to the front page gets marked as spam. but not techcrunch or any other 'popular' blog no way! everyone else who has a blog and submits stories with content is a spammer says the digg crowd.
even if techcrunch reposted it from someone else who reposted it from someone else.
welcome to digg. - thebankshow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6anyone see the category "Heatlth"?
hahahahaha, I think they mean Health, but hey, they did put up the "This site is under construction" message. - squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4HA! now they're taking down every thread digg related...
- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5they even talk about how they're ripping digg off in their forums.
- x3nos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually to steal a concept or idea is not a big deal among developers you are right, but to rip off, copy, what have you a design element or style is considered to be very affrontive
For example the demo at Pligg http://demo1.pligg.com/
Has elements similar to Digg, however it is a distinctly different design. Meh. No big deal. - x3nos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well they just took down their front page. Redirecting to http://meneame.net/ now.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"the kid's dad"
No, James Phelps *is* the forum admin 3dkiller on the SuperGu forum, and behind SuperGu.
http://www.google.com/search?q=James+Phelps+3dkiller
He even lists "Real Estate Agent" in his user profile.
He also has a digg user actually: http://digg.com/users/jimphelps/
Fairly inactive since he got busy starting to rip off the site I guess... - shm0edawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm not 100% on this one, but I'm pretty sure none of the functionality or style of supergu is original. I may be wrong.
- davidepaula, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If digg want to survive in this day an age it has to have one of these two things, a big ass company merge with digg or a real solid and loyal costume base. I think digg has a very loyal base. They should not worry about little websites like this. Netscape is trying very hard to beat digg without much success. I don't think these other guys will hurt them.
- GamingNews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I didn't have to
- stynesteen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Go make "SuperGu SUCKS!" #1 on SuperGu: http://www.getgui.com/story.php/supergu-sucks/voters
- jinglee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5neoknight..you snatched words from my mouth...
- elgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just asked them why not crediting digg.com ? http://www.supergu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277
- Kranklin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Haha, this is actually on SuperGu... http://www.getgui.com/story.php/if-copy-digg-at-least-thank-them
- zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I used to use /. a lot until they talk too much about Linux and got bored.
then I used fark until they got too users who comments and hard to keep up.
Then digg came along and they got store of my interest so I came to digg. Now digg is flooded Apple Fan Boys, I'm ready for another site!!! - squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they have a forum...
http://www.supergu.com/forum/index.php
someone's already started a digg article
http://www.supergu.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1970#post1970 - x3nos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Shameless promotion for the kid's dad who is probably funding this whole thing ;)
"Son, make me a website and Ill loan you the 500.00 for putting together that crazy idea of yours." - elgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What is ultra lame is that they don't officially credit digg.
Otherwise, the idea of an opensource digg like software is very cool, and could even help to enhance digg itself, as long as people involved officialy regognize their true admiration for the original, and are clear with visitors about their goals.
I mean everybody love to see a fan trying to imitate/emulate its favorite product or service...you can see this everyday on social bookmarking websites.
And everybody hate to see a hater trying to hide his sources of inspiration to his visitors !
Marketing lesson of the day : stay true to yourself ! - levi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The issue wasn't that they are copying digg it the fact that they are not giving digg credit.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes.
- nekteo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2send them FEEDBACKS!!!! http://www.supergu.com/forum/sendmessage.php
- x3nos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sorry, but the RIAA and MPAA have no interest in helping artists. They help the mega corps that contract the artists. If you seriously thing RIAA and MPAA have anything to do with intellectual property management any more than the Gestapo had to do with protecting good German citizens. You my friend are an idiot. I am all for artists getting their due and IP rights, but the recording and movie industry rarely have the artist's best interests at heart.

Come on people keep it tasteful. - crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hahaha, they banned one of my IP's.
Oh geez they are so stupid. - DJNewStyle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3So someone copied Digg's site - who gives a *****. Are you going to start using SuperGu now? If Digg is worth something, people won't abandon it for an exact copy with a terribly clean slate - its as simple as that. To steal a userbase you have to do something different.
Also.. deluxndotcom said, "Come on Kevin, can't you shut them down!"
Have some ***** self-respect. Don't talk to people who have fringe notability like they're some kind of super-hero. It makes you look like a simpering damzel in distress. -
