- z0zin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27IE7? Is that the browser with all the pop-ups, spam, and annoying toolbars?
Just kidding Microsoft, I wish them good luck.
If IE7 is better than Firefox, that would just make Firefox better.

- greatcaffeine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Whether you like IE7 or not, at least it can finally compete with Firefox now. It took a few years too long, but Microsoft did make a pretty competent browser.
- greatcaffeine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Insert a few more insertions, just for good measure.
- AngryBacon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Even worse than Microsoft Bob??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7that is pretty cool!
Oh, and IE7 is a huge improvement. FireFox is still still great, but I dont see how it is a must have when only IE6 was around ( haven't used IE6 in ~4 years ).
And to all the people that complain about malware, etc...
1. stop watching pr0n
2. stop downloading keygen/cracks
3. don't open the attachment - clawven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7IE6 shells are usually just as dangerous as IE. Enjoy your malware.

What the hell? I'm a enthusiast FFS. I like to tinker and try everything. Hell I even have tried Vista a few times. Gimme a break. - mckk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's only the Release Candidate, the post is about the official release.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@YellowBook - "Can't see Firefox users switching."
No, they probably won't.
The good news is, however, that the "Don't know better than to use IE" folks will have a better rendering engine, so us Web Developers can make better use of CSS without the fear of alientating IE.
My hope is that IE7 wipes out IE6 within 6 months. - Olney, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm a hardcore Mac user
But IE7 will let the world finally use
native IDN Domains
Domains in languages like Chinese, Japanese, Russian letters
A lot of other countries don't use Firefox
So get ready for Domaining 2.0
I already own Anime in japanese
アニメ.com
Pretty cool when ya think about it. - sid0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Back to the point: It's been corrected. Digg works properly in IE7 now.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4firefox users are great but i don't care if current ie6 users switch to anything as long as it's not ie6 or under.
it's purely selfish: ie7 follows standards better than ie6 which means less css hacks, which i loathe. - NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Ever since I got into Firefox and realized how a browser is supposed to work, I began to increasingly despise IE with a passion. I can't believe I once thought CSS is supposed to look like *****.
- rodrigomuniz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8this is not about FF x IE7, it's about the upgrade. IE6 have the greatest market share and with auto update, the IE7 will get it.
- dumbtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Awesome!
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"My hope is that IE7 wipes out IE6 within 6 months."
Hah! People still use IE5.5...
...and some of them are trying to do web design!
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Last time I tried IE7, it couldn't even properly display Digg comments. If a comment was buried and you clicked "show comment" it would expand and you would see the persons comment for all of two seconds then the text would just magically disapear.
Anyone know if this still is the case? - NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Maxthon builds off of IE's Core so really you can't say much. And the interface for Maxthon is disgusting.
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The problem is that it has been years since any major update to IE. Why update now? My guess is that Firefox, is forcing MS to realize that they need to update IE to stay competitive.
YAY competition! - open_sauce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im glad that Microsoft have finally got around to updating IE, it's a shame that they neglected for 6 years what was a badly broken (CSS-wise) product to start with. Had firefox not come along, I wonder if releasing IE7 would even be on their radar now.
Speaking as someone who is forced to struggle with making webpages work with IE6 on a daily basis, its definately a good thing that IE7 is finally arriving, but having said that, It seems that for web-developers, things are gonna get worse before they get better. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6How the hell did you make front page without numerous exclamation marks??
Could have at least utilized your caps-lock WMD. - bilal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The only thing i will use it for is when i open my hotmail through msn... and if i could change that i wouldnt ues it at all
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Oh believe me, I could care less. I run Opera in Arch Linux anyway, I rarely run Windows let alone IE.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4but it might help firefox
as when they learn how ie7 works most of the stuff in firefox will be easyer to learn
like tabs and switching search engines most people are computer illiterate so that would help alot
and hopefully that one standerd in ie7 that will be placed in ff2 will help that move - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They over-complicated the interface. They tried to be too innovative, and I can see a lot of soccer moms scratching their head. It's scary to think that most people will be navigating the web with that thing. Other browsers are proof that you can have those features, but make it look streamlined in the process.
However, it's zoom control it's easily accessible and a step in the right direction. Zoom functions should be handled by the browser, not different stylesheets for different text sizes. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It will be great to have a safer IE based on Firefox.
- Scruffydan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If by 'stupid enough' you mean 'not computer savvy' then the answer is yes, there are lots of them, you might even call them a majority
- greatcaffeine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you ask me, zoom should be a universal thing across the OS like in OS X 10.4.8. It's a very nice feature, and I'm really kinda surprised that it wasn't implemented before.
- sillywampa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now this means marking up pages and css for 3 browsers instead of 2. Where I work, everyone codes for IE6, firefox is an afterthought except for myself and 1 other person. I keep telling these guys that css in IE7 is going to be more like it is for Firefox so better get into good habits now, they don't listen. At work and at home I code to standards as much as possible using Firefox as my gauge. I'll then test in IE6, hack, test again, hack, test again (rinse repeat several times). then I check it in opera too.
Now with IE7, even though it's supposed to conform to standards better, I expect there to still be some cross-browser issues. I still have to check things in IE6 because our user base won't all be switched over all at once. There's going to be a transition period and IE6 won't just die off right away. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I say within 5 years people should just stop developing for old broken browsers. There's no reason to let people with legacy systems hold back progress.
- cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The interface doesn't appeal to me still.
- Dark_Ice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Vista IE7 is an even better browser as it implements Protected Mode for some extra security (and yes it does work wounders). My best bet it that FireFox will also get to use this technolegy and Microsoft will probebly help them doing it, considering they invited the FF team to redmond. This is just wild speculation thou, but would be great if it happened. Competition or not, a more secure Windows is a Win-Win deal.
- mebob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the GUI is horrible, but the rendering is much improved. I won't ever use it because of the UI but from what I've seen CSS designs that wouldn't render properly in IE6 appear to render well in IE7, just about the same as FF. Unfortunately, you still won't be able to neglect IE6 for years, but at least “as long as it functions in ie6” design may be just around the corner
- Bloodwine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1IE7 fixes several IE6 CSS bugs which means many of the ugly IE-only CSS hacks will break between IE6 and IE7. I also think it will affect some sites that rely on ActiveX controls as IE7 tries to be more secure about things.
Also, some short-sighted JavaScript code might do browser detection for IE6, IE5.5, IE5, etc. and when IE7 comes out that code will go fubar.
For most sites out there, though, they will look the same between IE6 and IE7. - BigFoot48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I loaded IE7 and it looks like a nice improvement, but until it includes a bookmark/favorites syncronizer like Google Browser Snyc that I use to keep my desktop and laptop sync'd, I'll be staying with FireFox.
- Deval, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just wish they had an adblock addon like firefox
- webdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I generally like IE7 but dont understand why they are rushing to push it via automatic updates.
If i were them i will just release it for download, promote it aggressively to the tech/blog community and wait for a few months for the feedback/bug discovery to roll in.
I will then improve the software based on that and then will push it to the mass. Also i will do the automatic updates country by country and US/Europe will be last in that list.
Their current release strategy is a PR disaster waiting to happen (if some yet undiscovered bug breaks users PS's). - BamB00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0in order to have me to switch to ie7
1.a built-in and resume support download manager
2.spelling check
3.something similar like the FF's live bookmarks, I want a drag down menu not a rss feed page - gentmax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I tried Firefox, per all of the 'experts' here. I liked it alot, but why does it have to use over 100 MB of my RAM?
- seanieb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3For the people out there are thinking “I’ll change form Firefox back to IE7 to make my life easier”. Your relationship with IE has been an abusive one; they have mistreated you, abused you and generally didn’t care about you. They may be telling you that they have changed their ways and the future is going to be Rosie.
But it all a part of the cycle of abuse:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycle_of_abuse#Elements
get Firefox!! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I like the interface better than FF. I only use FF for the add-ons like flash block and video downloader. Why the hell does FF put the close-tab X all the way over on the edge of the screen? IE7 has it where it should be on the tab itself. Quick-tabs in IE7 is also nice and the access to feeds/faves/history is better than FF. IE7 lets me drag and drop tabs also. Security isn`t an issue as I use sandboxie which also works on FF.
