- Palscience1, on 05/27/2008, -2/+26They are already using it . when the boss is not there.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -2/+16Most recent twitter: Posting from IBM, LOLOLOLOL.
- sephorous, on 05/27/2008, -0/+11I just discovered today that my company blocked digg.com :-( .... Consequently my productivity shot up 85%
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -0/+9It's all about SameTime...
- mudgie, on 05/28/2008, -0/+7I think they should fire the wankers that designed w3, everything is impossible to find on there. I can't find our Facebook knock-off.
@aimhelixaimhelix: You think they put ads on internal services? Please. - Hoov, on 05/28/2008, -0/+5I'm working in Poughkeepsie as I write this (don't tell my boss, lawl) and I can tell you I've never ever, not once, encountered a filtered website. This is 4+ years of web surfing, I mean working. I'm in building 007 using their standard workstations and I've worked in 003 with a different department.
Not trying to call you a liar, buuuuuut, you're lying. I've also been given a Thinkpad to use during my work in 003 and that too was never filtered. - mst3kcrow, on 05/27/2008, -4/+8Best use of twitter: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/4/23/
- inactive, on 05/28/2008, -0/+4key words "in house".
They're not surfing FACEBOOK. - PhattyPhattMatt, on 05/27/2008, -1/+4This explains why when i call there is no one to talk to....
*IBM employee twitter status about not answering phone, too busy "networking"* - ell0bo, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3I worked there in Emerging Technologies a few years ago, and let me tell you they realized the value of social networking even back then. The difference is they want you to do it their way, and they want to figure out how to make a buck off of it. I worked on a project called QED Wiki, a system I wish I could get my hands on again for where I work. It was a great idea at the time, but I think the idea has been lost in the folds of IBM. There are some amazing people coming up with some amazing ideas at IBM, but the powers that be seem to crush them form time to time. Here is a video about QED http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63qIq9t9Gqs
- jlgosse, on 05/28/2008, -0/+3Sametime is awesome, Jazz is amazing, and BluePages are interesting.
Also, I use Facebook at work. In moderation, of course. - rdldr1, on 05/27/2008, -2/+5I find that ironic since theres that IBM "stop talking, start doing" commercial that pokes fun at social networking as something "useless" in the business world.
Apparently, IBM now realizes why its called "social networking," not "business networking." - arplayer2k, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2I wonder if this is a ploy to get to better know an employee outside the office, and apply that knowledge to their worth inside the office. Just a thought...
- Nikonian, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2Don't tell me you work at CGS. No one stays there for more than 6 months..
- chanop, on 05/28/2008, -0/+2Ok, I'm a liar, I worked for NXP/Micrus/Philips in 320/322 at fishkill site......but still using IBM systems (obviously it must be a different filter). After I posted, I thought about that guy that got caught looking at tons of porn and was fired, then he sued IBM for not treating his porn-addiction (You're in Poughkeepsie, so you've had to of heard of this). Anyways, hope you're not getting roped around like a lot of the NY'ers are these days.....
- stateofmind, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2Now we know where Mr. BabyMan will be employed soon.
- surreal1111, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2this is absolutely true I'm part of at least 3.. we also use IM to contact each other... it's a brilliant idea actually it helps me to get to know people that i work with globally, i feel like I'm working/talking with a person rather then a email address.
- MattS, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2very inside baseball... but funny...
- mikerosoft, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Guess you don't check out TAP very often.
- JohnStack, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1I disagree with these comments. johnstack.spaces.live.com
Call it by another name - collaboration. Remember, they bought Lotus, Microsoft bought SharePoint? Both sucessful products! It works if its well managed and encouraged properly! - celkin, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1*****
- aimhelix, on 05/28/2008, -1/+2Of course they encourage it. The more people use SM sites, the more $$$$ is generated. You wouldn't believe how much money can be made from collecting demographic information, surfing habits, age group, interests when sold to advertisers.
- Cymrubeats, on 05/27/2008, -2/+3It's a good way to weed the morons out of your company, as i am more than sure, even on an internal social network, some just wont be able to help themselves, when it comes to showing how pathetic they are...WITH PICS!!!
- Jeffler, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Best twitt ever.
- surreal1111, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1nope i sure don't :)
- luchid, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1LOL @ Sharepoint.
- jlgosse, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Amen.
- Hoov, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Haha yeah I heard about that guy. He worked in Fishkill, right?
Roped around doesn't even begin to describe what's going on. Let's just say morale drops with each passing month. Management doesn't give a ***** though. - inactive, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Thank goodness for TAP.
But sadly, it does not have a cure for Lotus. - known, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1If your company hadn't blocked digg it would be 100%.
- wideawakewesley, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1I'm assuming you didn't see me Dogear this yesterday then.
;) - wideawakewesley, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Fortunately it's getting better with the social bookmarking, blogging and tagging built in on the right hand side of the search results now. You'll get better answers in that part than the main search.
- fr0ng, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Funny how I hear about this on Digg before I see it on the internal site....signed up :o
- ahmiller, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0Time for some web history...1997, IBM hires Denis Leary to snipe at a bunch of web surfers..the closing tagline: "Work the Web" (that was for Web 1.0 ...fast forward to now...Social Networking in Web 2.0...we all think it's a waste of time ...don't use Facebook while the boss is looking ...well, you'd be the boss if you could figure out how to make $$$ at it. IBM and others are testing the waters and will figure out how to monetize it soon enough.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -0/+0*****
- benfmw, on 05/28/2008, -0/+0Sharepoint isn't to bad once you dump the out of box stuff and customize it...
- mydave, on 08/12/2008, -0/+0To copy from facebook? shame IBM. I have no need new project I love facebook!
http://search.ashtech.info/tech%20news - topcat5, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1They want you to have a social site so when they send your job to India you have a shoulder to cry on.
- bowe, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1I called this ***** so long ago.
bowe (25 years ago) - Companies and colleges are going to totally roll out their own interoperable social networks and then facebook will be screwed. - APDSD, on 10/07/2008, -0/+0Social networking is the future, and of course the big dogs will always the way to make a few bucks off of it... But the good news with open source versions, we little guys can find ways to make a buck too!
http://www.anchorpointdesignsd.com/graphic_design. ... - inactive, on 05/28/2008, -1/+1UGH! IBM. My company is in bed with them for some unknown reason, agreeing to implement all their crappy applications, such as Quickr, the WORST content management system I have EVER seen (seriously, there's tons of free open source solutions that run circles around it), and Sametime, IBM's answer to instant messaging (if you can call it an 'answer' to anything).
I'm surprised IBM employees are encouraged to do anything. - Ganpachi, on 05/27/2008, -3/+3I knew a guy that would place clients on hold while he chatted up cute girls in the city that he searched out via IBM bluepages.
He got fired eventually for being a complete slacker. - ImpaledNoob, on 05/28/2008, -1/+0It's a TRAP!
- skinturtle, on 05/27/2008, -1/+0They've only done this so they can get free research concerning social networking for their own gains. HULK SMASH!
I hate corporations...any reasons there are...are to benefit them. - inactive, on 05/27/2008, -2/+1The server at www.businessweek.com is taking too long to respond.
- chanop, on 05/28/2008, -3/+2Buried as completely inaccurate. I worked for IBM for 2 years. (Fishkill,Poughkeepsie NY) They have super-filters that block absolutely anything....IBM was once the best place you could work, they've since robbed their employees of pensions, when they're continuing to profit.
Edit: Just called a buddy who's still there and he says there's still heavy filtering, and management barely wants them using those sites on their personal time. - ligyron, on 05/27/2008, -9/+8I'm a genius. ***** social networking
- 314159rate, on 05/27/2008, -2/+0that was quick. the site is dead already, mirror?
