- yachtboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Hi, Jason Turgeon, site owner here. I do not to my knowledge have any pirated e-books on the site, and do not have a book called "learning perl" listed on the site. This site is intended only for LEGAL distribution of books by authors who believe in shared knowledge. Any author/copyright owner who finds a work that has been pirated and can prove ownership should contact me immediately at Jason AT textbookrevolution DOT org and I will remove the book/link post haste.

- jugaaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks for the link.
- yachtboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Glad to see so many of you like it. Lilricky, thanks for your concern, but I don't see myself getting sued for a dead link, and I'm not asking for money since other people wrote all the books and put them online for free, and webhosting is cheap. Check http://textbookrevolution.org/computers-tech/169-programming-e-books for more info on this soon to be resolved kerfuffle if you want the full story. If the link dies, that's because I've determined that there really is pirated--and thus, unacceptable--material at the other end of it. But for now, that's not the case.
Jason - maloney_633, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I enjoyed this site very much it is amazing to see sites like this.
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mr. Schwarz,
The book which was linked to has multiple versions which were released by O'Reilly publishing. The newest release is "Programming Perl" Third Edition ISBN 0-596-00027-8 which does not even mention you as an author. Considering that the page link is dead, and you cannot prove that it even linked to your book in the first place I find your comments to be highly inflammatory towards a website which is trying to teach people using legal materials.
If you do indeed own the copyright to the books listed on the page (You don't on that book, O'Reilly publishing does and as an extension the listed authors Larry Wall, Tom Christiansen, and Jon Orwant have some rights as well.) then you have every right to have it removed.
So in summary, lighten up. I have written tutorials for programs which have seen every corner of the web and have never recieved a dime for them. At first I was outraged, but not because my work had gotten out. It was a work in progress and I was worried that anybody who had obtained it from a third party source would not have the most up to date information available. I consider it an honor to be able to spread my knowledge of certain things on to others, and you should as well.
And just so you don't think i'm a total jerkoff, you got my 10 cents. My copy of Programming Perl (2nd Edition), which you are listed as an author on, is sitting on my bookshelf gathering dust, right between 1st Edition and 3rd edition. It is an excellent reference for when I need to write a quick script. - arcanelinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, my mistake. Wasn't "Learning Perl", but "Programming Perl", and the link is now 404 (but that wasn't known at the time). That's the problem when you're a link site that links to link sites... you could be pointing at pirated things unwittingly, and yet you share the liability. Ugh.
Im glad you have the money to buy everything. The rest of us less fortunate have to take what we can get. But what the hell I dont care nor do i use windoze. So thanks for the site. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oooh fight in the library
Great Site - Keep up the good work and dont let the capalist bastards get you down :) - tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1An addon snide comment:
Perhaps the money you earned off me when I purchased your books went towards your legal fund of a certain case I will not mention.
Maybe the people who linked to your book were only there to get in and get out, but not actually look at anything. - lilricky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I agree with merlyn, its very risky to link to these sites just because you find them in google, and then pass it off as your own. Hope you stay out of trouble, if not, what is your paypal link? You're going to need bail money :)

- midorigin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How information should be. It's just silly not to share.
- MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is neat. I've been considering building my own reference library so I could look stuff up. And not just something like an encyclopedia. I want books about advanced math, quantum physics, newtonian physics, computers and electronocs, etc. etc. Hopefully this will help me build that collection, even if it is in electronic form.
- merlyn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Some of the links referenced by this site are pirated copies of e-books (such as my Learning Perl book). Please don't link to this site.
