- blanksucks, on 11/06/2008, -2/+75I always see those signs around San Diego but I thought it was some small scale operation.

"You are the Upton Sinclair of lawn signs" - scottns, on 11/06/2008, -4/+50This is a good expose on the company behind those annoying lawn signs...
- DearSergio, on 11/07/2008, -1/+39"Who in their right mind advertises websites with lawn signs?"
Now I know. Thank you Twitter/kevinrose. - greenisus, on 11/07/2008, -1/+39great site, but it should be a multi-select instead of a dropdown
- jsauter, on 11/07/2008, -0/+34Put that on the list of "Things I Never Suspected Existed".
- geodescent, on 11/07/2008, -1/+29The next logical step would be to supply this information to the Lincoln, Nebraska police and Attorney General's office. Hopefully they can use it to shut down the parent company for two reasons: 1) Those signs are ***** annoying, and 2) It's illegal to place those signs where they usually get put. There's also a vague 3rd reason: I didn't think of it first and am jealous, but that's a given...
- centran, on 11/07/2008, -0/+25Real World spamers!
The register thousands of domains for different towns and plant the yard signs.
All the domains are slightly different but link back to a parent company.
The domains are to get user information so they can be contacted by the parent company.
The parent company is a dating site that charges a lot for their match making services. 3k-15k per person!(sounds more like it might be a prostitution ring to me)
Just like email scammers all it takes is one or two suckers to fund their operations in an area everything else is profit. - newman8r, on 11/07/2008, -2/+25haha. nice.
- Lst01, on 11/07/2008, -1/+22What's a substantive and informative article doing on Digg?
- BigBroMario, on 11/07/2008, -0/+18***** crazy. These signs are all over the place where I live (North of Pittsburgh). Made a lot of sense when I saw they had an office on this side of PA.
- jrapp, on 11/07/2008, -0/+15I hate hate hate these signs. They're all over town. The police actually arrested a woman for planting them. They stopped for a while, but they're showing up again.

- Cattywampus, on 11/07/2008, -1/+13The election's over, so all the partisans are laying low.
But be sure to stayed tuned to Digg when the Huffington Post starts covering the Obama's new puppy... - Gatesophile, on 11/07/2008, -0/+11Always saw these in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I thought they were mostly local, too. This is pretty crazy.
- brwright, on 11/07/2008, -0/+11My town of less than 900 people in Indiana has these.
- minnepinne, on 11/07/2008, -1/+10Unsure
- jemka, on 11/07/2008, -2/+11A rocket scientist or a rock. Digg even gives you 5 minutes to think it over and that's the best you could do?
- charm803, on 11/07/2008, -1/+10Food.
- uknowwhoibe, on 11/07/2008, -0/+9Great detective work, and an outstanding read.
- Archon810, on 11/07/2008, -1/+9That's exactly what they want you to think... until ONE MAN figures it all out. And now this man has to face... aww ***** it.
RIP Don LaFontaine. - xxtez, on 11/07/2008, -1/+9I'm in the metropolitan Detroit area and I've seen these signs, too. This article doesn't really mention any offices in Michigan, even. Maybe its a work at home thing.. I want in :p
- stacigh, on 11/07/2008, -0/+8I see them all over the place in northern Nevada also! Right around where that little dot for Nevada appears. I thought it was just some strange local fascination.

- Biker803, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6So weird, I work in Haddon Heights which is where one of those signs came from in the article. I was starting to wonder why the heck I was seeing them everywhere and then all of a sudden this article pops up. Crazy.
- agentmoose, on 11/07/2008, -1/+7Here's a summary for you:
1. Websites
2. Advertise
3. Money - newman8r, on 11/07/2008, -1/+7Very interesting article, dugg.
BTW does anyone know the laws pertaining to placing signs like these in public places? If there's nothing wrong with it I think this could definitely be a cheap and effective component of any guerrilla campaign. - crunchdigg, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6it's illegal. public medians, parks, corners are not free advertising spaces.
It costs your city to pull them up. - funkywood, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6$3000+ for dating services? It goes with being an entrepreneurial society but this is one of my pet hates of being in the states, you have to be constantly alert to scam artists like these in case they get the slick salesmen on you. Every american salesmen seems like a con artist to me and marketing is the only thing they are good at.
Side note: Interesting that someone else 'kinda' knows a natural monopoly when they see one. Or the network effect at least. Thankfully this isn't a natural monopoly as he says since there is nothing to stop you signing up with multiple dating sites. Try selling you car on multiple auction sites though and then you'll see a natural monopoly in action! - inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6No comment
- hollywoodphony, on 11/07/2008, -0/+6I was sure this was going to end with those commercials you see on late night TV where people keep saying, "I made $5000/month by going to THIS WEBSITE!" They all keep saying "THIS WEBSITE" over and over and then "THIS WEBSITE" is always like "makemoneyfast42.com" or something.
- Archon810, on 11/07/2008, -1/+6you mean like the boytaurs? Yeah... that's right. http://www.boytaur.net/home.html
- jjamminjon, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5Pretty intriguing read.
- Scottamus, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5it is illegal to place these signs on right-of-ways. This whole business should be shut down. Great expose.

- bipolarruledout, on 11/07/2008, -0/+5It's really not that difficult to dig dirt up if your resilient... I've done a little google stalking myself but have never taken it to the "next level" like this person.
- jmenter, on 11/07/2008, -1/+6What do you want to bet that this is all part of the overall marketing strategy?
Submitted by Robert J. Moore, the site is RJMetrics (started by Robert J. Moore.) It's like a dream within a dream. - someidiotinnj, on 11/07/2008, -2/+7I live near both Glassboro which I've worked in many times and Haddon Heights I wouldn't consider either area small as the author is describing. Rt.47 in Glassboro aka 'Delsa Drive" is loaded with stores almost entirely down the length of it. Very interesting how this company has spread about.
