- cinemafreak, on 10/12/2007, -16/+138eheheh. Share your seed. hehehehe.
- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+80You reduce load from the pipe when you share your seed.
I'm so, so sorry. - raccettura, on 10/12/2007, -6/+68Every time I share my seed... it's a torrent.
- TCDToxic, on 10/12/2007, -26/+73I would like to share my seed... all over your face.
- mosigma, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39i came into this Digg because of the "share your seed" line. Digg'n it just for the title alone!!
- szelij, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37I know...that's the first thing that came to my mind too. I mean really...'share your seed'? Man you're kinky.
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31I wouldn't think most guys would need a tutorial on how to share their seed. Most of them seem to be pretty good at it already.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Now, if only people would continue sharing whatever they have downloaded, instead of exiting, then torrents would be a hundred times more faster.
- Knoton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18came?
- stokestack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17"I upload 5 times what i download as a rule, anyway, when im done downloading, ive uploaded 5 times what i just downloaded."
Man, thanks for working that out for us. - Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Well, I don't know who Coman is, but I'm sure he might need to know how to do this.
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15So... remember: when you spread your seed, don't be selfish with it.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I upload 5 times what i download as a rule, anyway, when im done downloading, ive uploaded 5 times what i just downloaded. I got a 15/5 connection
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7if you cant handle noobs, get off the web, troll
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I seen Digg users who didnt know that there are 64-bit processors (sp?)
- amoeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4AlphaSoulja: Does anyone know how to seed the file once you've created the torrent?
You will need to upload the torrent to a popular torrent site. Visit the site and look for their "upload torrent" option. When a person searches for and downloads your torrent, the seeding will begin. Alternatively, you can send your torrent file directly to your friends and when they open the torrent, the seeding will begin.
go BitTorrent! - jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I always leave Azureus running sharing 4 flavors of Linux ISOs.
Luckily my ISP has no bandwidth restrictions. - ragz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I agree. Something like yousendit.com is what I need. BT is cool, but for one big file to one person it's not the way to go. Thanks for the tip.
- DaMacGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5on a mac just hit apple+g and you get a little "generate" window. just drag in the file, hit generate, and BAM! you got a torrent.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8or i could just use something like yousendit.com. i thought the main advantage of bittorrent was shared distribution? if, as the article suggests, i am only sending one friend a large file, what is the benefit of using bt? at least with something like yousendit, once i've uploaded the file it's available for download any time for a week, and as many times as desired, without any bandwidth on my part.
obviously if you're sending it to 10 other people that also have bittorrent clients and are willing to seed, bt will have obvious benefits. but for a one time thing? - OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Now, if only people would continue sharing whatever they have downloaded, instead of exiting, then torrents would be a hundred times more faster."
Why does this come across to me as an appeal for snuggling after sex? Have all the above comments warped me? - boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, you spelled "processors" correctly, but you misspelled "I've".
- sk545, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2now, how about a guide to finding a damn tracker?
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In what application are you pressing cmd-G?
- Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It's nice to see Mr. Fool using vocabulary to prove his user name is correct!
- Specter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2under advanced options utorrent and azureus can act as torrents... you don't even need an external tracker.
- WickedOwl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i would say that you are all immature and need to grow up, but seeing as i how i giggled as well, i hold my tounge.
- Canadiens1160, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The article gets a dig just for the byline.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@deej5871: when i go to yousendit.com i still see the same screen i've seen for months with the 1gb limit, and the only reference i see to a subscription service is a small link that says "business solutions". sure you've got the right site?
@bryan8m: true. that was the only benefit i could see, but bt is going to use my entire upload bandwidth as well unless i cap the bt upload speed, which will obviously make the download take way longer. - Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@media Yes, this will make the download go slower, but if you're using this specifically to send between you and another person/persons, download speed won't matter because you will already have the file.
- titicaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe Gmail has a max attachment size of 10MB, no? And even if you could email large attachments, it can be hard to tell the mailbox capacity of recipients. The whole idea is to easily share large files quickly.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Bittorrent is still good for sending large files to one person because you don't have to finish it in one session (resume later). Plus, you'll max out your upload bandwidth in the transfer.
- fatsobob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I Digg this because it teaches multiple clients. I wish it showed with others, but it is still good.
- Cronos1388, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even if this is old new I dugg it just for the title
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dugg for title.
- Narpas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Your mother did no such thing! Spreading your seed refers to things only guys can....
... oh. - TheRealPod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry I had to digg because he brought the funny.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm a stranger no more
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+110 meg max.. forgot about that. Well you could split the archive but that is making things more complex then they need to be. I guess I see the point of using bittorrent for this now. Especially if you don't have webspace to put them up on.
I still feel this does not belong on the mainpage.. but I guess majority rules. - deej5871, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well that's odd. I signed up for the little "YouSendIt Beta" thingie a while back assuming it would give me more features than a user without an account (and that's the page I have bookmarked, the beta page). Apparently when you sign up for it you get the shaft and when you don't you get good service.
Whodathunkit? - OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now why is it that we are not supposed to tick the "PrivateTorrent" box?? I did tick "Private Torrent", sent the torrent to my friend and he downloaded it fine. In my ignorance(?), I thought that meant that my torrent could not be picked up by a tracker and make my file public.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mmm Vanilla Linux
- Stri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Id' no idea it was this easy. Cheers
- sanjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ya yousendit, bigupload, rapidshare(the worst in terms of restrictions and among the best in terms of speed) et al..
i prefer them to share files with my friends...
but BT is different...multiple ppl are sharing stuff with multiple ppl!
doing that with such upload sites is not such a good idea, moreoever you cant resume download with most of these... - Ebeniz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Share files with friends using Utorrent
http://media.putfile.com/share-files-using-utorrent - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats a router firmware problem.
it happens because the router cant handle so many connections...
not just linksys routers are affected... - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2im gonna adsense until you get $15, thinking its 10 cents/click
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1god, i hope this makes it on diggnation.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4If you're using torrents but you don't know how to upload and seed one with a program, i'm not sure if you should be on the internet.
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Am I the only one who thought... Gee, isn't this what email is for?
I need to send 200megs of photos to my friends. I open up Gmail, add their addresses from my contacts, attach the file, click send.
Better yet, I put them in my htdocs directory, create a nice little gallery and allow them to pic and choose which ones they want to see by thumbnails. Maybe I'm missing the point though. -
