- TheSeraph, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28Thanks to AdBlockPlus, I don't even see the text spam/ads.
- baldr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24A screenshot of the layout of MySpace has made it to the front page of digg?!?
My eyes hurt after only a few seconds... - kjm16, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12your grammar is the *****...
- kjm16, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Your welcome, I just felt like being a douche.
- kingp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, funny story about Google and MySpace running their ads. My friend had a picture up on his MySpace page where he had set out a picnic dinner for he and his girlfriend. However the ad at the bottom of the page thought differently:

Picture isn't photoshopped. I took a screenshot of it and saved it in Paint or GIMP...can't remember which. - brianbb98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wow... people hate these comments almost as much as myspace...
- EarningAdsense, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0MYSPACE makes crazy money off of Ads! I found a site that is sharing its revenue with its users!
Not too shabby:

- webeteran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah I switched to facebook, I love google though I am running them with www.aimclicks.com and doing great
- webeteran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah I switched to facebook, but I love google I am running thier ads with http://www.aimclicks.com and doing great
- tudisco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1with an estimated $30 million a month in ad revenue... you'd think they could make the site look better...
- djames82, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wow...great analysis on Myspace and Google AdSense - great job. Now...I've got to take a crap.

http://www.AdBlockPlus.org - tommyredcoat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Thank goodness everyone of Google's ads was outlined in red in this article. I was beginning to think my eyes had overlooked the location of their placements. On every page...
I would have been more impressed if someone had circled things which are not ads. That would have been shocking. - Corey1982, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2A win-win for News Corp. and Google.
- TechCF, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I don't understand how people can live with all the ads and crap on myspace. It's like geocities all over again.
Facebook + Adblock is better in many ways - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -6/+478 diggs about myspace? This is an Ad itself from Google/Murdock.
- ravan46, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4................
MySpace makes money.
ok - geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2The Seven Wonders of the Internet, now there's a concept. Someone ought to grab that idea and run -- it would make a great story and title.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The concept is good, the implementation is *****.
- alexforcefive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1yeah, it was thoughtful for him to put some screenshots in... "and here's what you're missing out on, firefox guys!"
- mikexcore, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2@hdtvdust
myspace doesnt get any special treatment.. their search function uses google but they never had a "powered by google" logo or anything.. NOW they do.
i'd love to be a fly on the wall when myspace received a email from google telling them to add it.. hahah - HigherLogic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Forget Firefox. Get Opera.
http://www.opera.com - GarethLWalt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1is that a screensavers shirt i see? if so, badass ^.^
- balibones, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7MySpace deal with Google = MySpace might have the inside scoop on CTR, Conversions and other metrics to guide placement and display of contextual advertising.
Anyone with a content site monetized through AdSense would do well to test some emulations of Myspace placements on their own site. - atbnet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2@xatx
Get the ***** off digg
'myspace is *****' fixed that for you too - adc86, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3If you're so 'computer savvy,' Mr. Generalization, could you explain standards compliance, and why IE *isn't* a bane to every single goddamn web developer around? Thanks.
- dreicher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1FTA... "The Google Ads are targeted towards user interests and lifestyle (which users teach to MySpace & Google via their info and profiles). For example, I am single and have lived in Brazil and Japan. Most of the ads served to me are for Singles Sites where I can meet Brazilians and Japanese women. That’s some very tight ad targeting by Google."
Please tell me his is joking! I'm married and have never been to Brazil or Japan and "Most of the ads served to me are for Singles Sites where I can meet Brazilians and Japanese women." - adc86, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2The concept is good if you are fourteen. The implementation is a multiplication of this fact times 'poor.' I just... I just... I guess I'll just refer you to this: http://www.xkcd.com/c146.html
- godzilla81, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Firstly My Space must have heaps of PI and UBs every month . Then this Google contextual ads serve really high relevancy ads to user's profile or user's behaviour. I suspect they might use the web analytics to know the users behaviour then combined with the contextual ads platform to serve relevant ads. OR also they leverage user's profile with the contextual ads platform.
The placement that they have looks quite strategic, for example do the "south" position for pages that contain messages, and so on
- DeathfireD, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1ummm correctly if I'm wrong but isn't it in google's TOS not to edit or change the way google ads display? Also don't they specifically state that ads by google has to show? If this is the case then shouldn't myspace's adsence account be suspended.
PS. If you all remember Digg use to modify the look and feel of the google ads to display in little boxes on the side of the site and it seems they changed or where told to stop. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2yeah, um...if you think that MySpace has the same level account that you do with your diary, you are nuts. They get to follow separate rules because Google makes more money off MySpace in one hour than they make off your blog in 5 years.
- Pewpewpew, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1And why do you think that?
- bs3arch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1It's a Sublime shirt :)
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2This one is clever...
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/myspacemail.jpg - bikeboy99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Good article - will be interesting to see the next move from them - video ads from Google?
- geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Someone has their socks in a bunch because they don't know how to block ads correctly in FF *or* IE, or we wouldn't all be getting dugg down, now would we. Here's an idea, Mr. I Know More Than the Rest of You Put Together: You don't know *****, and your digging down of perfectly rational and even helpful comments is proof. Maybe stop with the digg-down button, step away from the computer, and get a life.

"myspace doesnt get any special treatment.."
Did you read the first line of the article? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2this is not that great of an observation. myspace and google are very prominent sites; neither would expect the standard treatment. duh.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Where the ***** have you been? MySpace has been profitable for quite some time now.
- geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Gotta love FF with NoScript, AdBlockPlus, FilterSetG and FilterSetG Updater, *and* using IE 7 with it's built-in pop-up blocker and anti-phishing filter, along with my no-ads host file, which I find indispensable and works with all browsers, not just IE.
I don't see an ad unless you take a screencap for me. And that's only if I want to, because I can block pictures (and video, and Flash) in FF, too.
And no, the hosts file does not slow my browsers down...they're all fast as hell.
Take back the web, people. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2"Hey check those ads out on Digg.com!!! They are there..."
I don't think I've ever once seen an ad on Digg.
Gotta love adblock. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Wow this is odd, a story makes it to the front page about ads regarding Myspace....
The only reason myspace makes this much in ads is because there userbase is all IE people who don't have the luxuries of Adblock. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I've never seen an ad either. Gotta love IE, and hosts files.
Then again, I guess I am more computer savvy than you all are. I haven't seen an ad in at least 6 years, and I also get ZERO spyware, adware or viruses. All using IE. - actionscripted, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3dirka dirka
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2i know, thanx, i know its perfect.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2dont be sore cuz ur old and prolly cant enjoy it bc u'd be a pedophile. geezer
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Who cares, advertising revenue is well-known to all of us! Hey check those ads out on Digg.com!!! They are there...
My dad makes an average of 22,000 a month from ads and clicking, I am sure he doesn't mind one bit.

What is Digg?
