- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -2/+45Where is Mr Babyman on this chart? Incomplete IMO.
- joestump, on 09/11/2008, -1/+32Link is fixed. Sorry about that!
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -7/+32Please give us an option to turn off recommendations engine.
- JerichoKS, on 09/11/2008, -1/+22Very awesome system layout. I'm impressed at how well it handles everyone digging at once (especially MrBabyMan).
- StevenBullen, on 09/11/2008, -1/+20He has a server to himself for his diggs.
- BBarash, on 09/11/2008, -1/+14Awesome post mate, thanks for the info!
- stouffer67, on 09/11/2008, -1/+12I think what he means is that he would rather have the old upcoming section the default for when you click on the upcoming tab.
- borez, on 09/11/2008, -0/+11And a breakdown of the algorithm please
/only kidding - benologist, on 09/11/2008, -2/+12User requests a page, a server gives it to them, and the servers are load balanced. I'm sure that will surprise approximately nobody.
I think people asking "how digg works" probably meant "the algorithm that front pages stories". - Eisim, on 09/11/2008, -1/+10i was expecting a little more in-depth info, but... hey, some info is better than none. no complaints from me
- brendon2020, on 09/11/2008, -1/+9nice overview, keep them coming
- speedk0re, on 09/11/2008, -0/+8Fark doesn't allow it and it can be EXTREMELY annoying at times. Like when a frontpage of a newspaper changes, or when a site updates it's content but not the link and you want to revisit it.
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 09/11/2008, -1/+8I heard they had to add another server solely for his account since he diggs articles so fast.
- dhurricane, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6Don't forget to make sure the turbo button on the front is pushed in as well.
- ZogDog, on 09/11/2008, -1/+6Where's the beer... oh wait
- georgemason01, on 09/11/2008, -4/+9Cool...can you make all that stuff work faster?
- teh_techie, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5Meh, I'd rather see it blend...
- CATSCEO2, on 09/11/2008, -2/+7Yes. For the love of Darwin and all that is good.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/11/2008, -1/+5Just need to plug the servers into 220 volts instead of 110v.
- Eisim, on 09/11/2008, -1/+5wait for what? your funny joke? i'm still waiting......
- gsmaverick, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4I'm very interested in how the recommendation engine database works!
- sdigroup, on 09/11/2008, -5/+9But will it run Crysis?........
- Eisim, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4your frog faces east, i'm not sure if that's such a good idea. the other story got dugg prolly cause his frog is facing west, a much more duggworthy direction.. your frog looks more happy though... AND he capitalized every word, that makes a winner.
- headzoo, on 09/12/2008, -0/+3Are you guys using regular ol' PHP for the whole thing, or is there business logic created with C/C++, and wrapped up as PHP extensions?
People like to point to Yahoo's (and Digg's) use of PHP as an example of how well PHP can scale, but what most people don't know is Yahoo uses hundreds of custom built PHP extensions (written in C/C++) for their business logic, and the PHP scripting language itself is used mostly for display logic. I'm wondering if this is the approach Digg uses (Specially since I think I saw PHP extension writing experience listed on the jobs page). - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -1/+4How about adding keywords and URLs to the content filter? Then users can finally start weeding out the spamming of various websites/subject matter, if they'd like.
- professorfurley, on 09/11/2008, -2/+5The url still goes their internal QA server. Here is the correct link to the image.
http://blog.digg.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/di ... - spammishking, on 09/12/2008, -1/+3or just bookmark http://digg.com/all/upcoming/most
- MtheoryX, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2I heard they save quite a bit of load since MrBabyMan just resubmits previous articles all the time.
- blink21, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2It's our hardcore group of scientists who build our algorithms.
- jayadelson, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2They also research the velocity of ping pong balls off of our CFO's forehead.
- diggenerate, on 09/11/2008, -3/+5why, just don't use it if you don't like it.
- Pitstopper, on 09/11/2008, -2/+3Ok. The software part?
:P - palaciosr, on 09/11/2008, -3/+4Nop, I see the pic
- shupp, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1We do not currently have any custom PHP extensions. But as you pointed out, we are looking for a PHP Internals developer:
http://digg.com/jobs#oOAaVfwd - >mark, on 09/12/2008, -1/+2Go to upcoming and press the "all" button
- NiyazK, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Great... you should even get ur hands on these news category which i found -http://techb.net/category/news/
- antdude, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1It mentions software.
- DrPh0bius, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1You should ask for a refund of your membership fee. This is clearly costing you a small fortune which you would have earned as you crept closer to being a "Top Ten Digger!"
- MaxD, on 09/11/2008, -2/+2Ahhhh... lots of servers, couldn't see that one coming - now, how about letting us know how the algorithms work ;)
- NoozeHound, on 09/12/2008, -1/+1You guys are lame.
"Product Managers with crabs and a little secret ..."
That line is so much better than all of the rest of the content! - joy2k9, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0now that's nice indeed. :D
