- anderzole, on 01/12/2008, -0/+85it's about time. Some people were turning facebook into Myspace pt. 2. But at least facebook never had autoplaying songs and f'ed up backgrounds
- Sayo, on 01/12/2008, -0/+49This is going to be really nice. Facebook is becoming a usability nightmare right now. It'll be great to go back to the simple clean interface that we all loved before all of the apps came along. There are TONS of really cool and useful apps out there, but there are just as many that are the polar opposite. Rock on.
- bryceman111, on 01/12/2008, -1/+36Wouldn't it be ironic if they came out with a Facebook App that hides Facebook Apps...
- daveman692, on 01/12/2008, -1/+23I've already just started not allowing some apps to create profile boxes via the privacy settings.
- RSterkenburg, on 01/12/2008, -0/+22Hahaha, good luck deleting it.
- rumford, on 01/12/2008, -1/+21nice insights marshall. i am sure millions of people will be rejoicing about the ability to clean their profile easily.
- ctrlfreak13, on 01/12/2008, -0/+15What they really need is to allow auto-blocking of all those obnoxious app-invites that seem to appear every login and are usually not even sent by the user but rather automatically by the app.
- D3koy, on 01/12/2008, -0/+15Can I apply this to all profiles I see, so that anything that I don't have on my 'checklist' gets auto-sent to the "extended profile"
- MonkCanatella, on 01/12/2008, -1/+14You're an annoying tool.
- RSterkenburg, on 01/12/2008, -0/+12I, too, just block applications I find are obnoxious. It's satisfying, knowing that you will never again be asked to 'root for your favorite hockey team', or to take a 'what kind of kisser are you' test again. Very satisfying.
- praveenmarkandu, on 01/12/2008, -0/+11i use greasemonkey on firefox. custom app hider does it for me. after browsing a few pages and hiding the apps, you dont have to manage it much anymore. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/11790
- jayb1rd, on 01/12/2008, -0/+11About farking time. I was so sick of those things. I got so tired of the stupid "Speed Racer" and vampire/zombie/werewolf/midget/whatever games that I started deleting any friends who invited me to them.
- Bender1012, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10Hang on a sec I'll go make apps for those and send you invites to them.
- Bender1012, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10I want to see a Permanent Ignore function for stupid app invites.
- NvrEndr, on 01/12/2008, -0/+10Yeah, about freaking time... I never joined myspace, and only joined facebook because it was (at the time) 'clean,' uniform and actually useful (for a college student trying to keep in touch with old high school friends).
- sersdf, on 01/12/2008, -0/+8What I'd really like is the ability to turn *notifications of friends' adding applications* OFF my feed
- Caspercreep, on 01/12/2008, -2/+10I was literally thinking of deleting my facebook profile till I saw this.
- JasonMaloney101, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6Josh Smith sent a request using Block Facebook Apps:
Want to block annoying application invites like this one? Click below to accept and take back your privacy!
[Start Blocking!] [Ignore] - Zippo, on 01/12/2008, -0/+6Thank god... now, can we get an option to block Application Requests?
- TheBuzzKiller, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5I wrote a little howto about how to do this with Firefox/Greasemonkey if anyone's interested ...
http://puterfreedom.blogspot.com/2008/01/fixing-fa ... - akkibaba, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5This is why I use Greasemonkey with the ***** Facebook script. I don't want to be bombarded by invites to lame apps like "Are you cool? Are you right or left brained? What's your favorite color?"
Answer : None of the above. - inactive, on 01/12/2008, -2/+7The apps aren't even the reason I recently left facebook. I'm not sure why, but knowing every single detail of my ex-friend's lives isn't stalker-fun anymore, it's just boring.
- wddwmmandalore, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5***** finally, it takes about 2min for some of my friends pages to load
- BHSPitMonkey, on 01/12/2008, -0/+5It doesn't sound like they're taking care of the invitations. When will they learn?!
- kaph, on 01/12/2008, -0/+4Wow, an app that I would actually want to send invitations to 20 my friends for.
- skyh, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3I'm pretty sure that's not how it works, unfortunately.. which is why I don't think this tool is going to solve anything.
- Iwantawii, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3This is a bad idea. This might very well break the space-time continuum.
- aliguana, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3it's not the apps so much... its the app spam. For example, if one of my friends adds an app, I get spammed with it constantly.. "xxx was uberpoked! Click here to send one!". If I don't personally have a fecking uberpoke app installed, I NEVER want to see any reference to it in my feed. FB need to clamp down on that first.
- LostinService, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3how about an option to block app categories as well?
- Alexx3k, on 01/12/2008, -0/+3Yes! no more super-*****-duper wall 3.0 with a load of rehashed chain emails from 1999...
Now they just need an option to disable all application requests and i'm happy again - iChainsaw, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2HEY! I haven't talked to you in forever! How are the kids?
none of the above. - praveenmarkandu, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2http://hs.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=627 ...
think there already is one. havent tried it yet. - condormcs, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2or if you can't wait until then: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/11992
- RSterkenburg, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Well I guess you have to promote it somehow.
- widgetmaker, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2Uh just untick the box which says add to profile if you don't wnat it on there, I only have ahalf my apps on my page oters are silly game ones I use rather han use to display info about things like films. Seems like this is just an idiots way of doing things that can already be done.
- daGUY, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2About time! Thank goodness. The apps basically turned Facebook into MySpace (I have friends who literally have 20+ apps installed). What I would really like even more than what they're proposing is a way to completely strip out all non-Facebook apps entirely, as if they didn't exist at all. They could call it "basic profile" or something and have it be an option in your privacy settings.
- MikeonTV, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2hopefully we can select which apps to keep. There are a few good ones out there.
- inactive, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2It's boring to read about my good friends too though. Oh, wow, Andrew just added KoRn to his favorite bands..... Lame.
- scotty588, on 01/12/2008, -0/+2This greasemonkey (also stylish) script just removes them outright. No need to click the X to hide it like that other greasemonkey script. Works pretty well.
http://userstyles.org/styles/3681 - AussieJames, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1you know when you add apps their is an option to hide it from your profile and only let it access your info?
- MScrip, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I hate apps too. Luckily, I hardly get invitations anymore. I guess the novelty has worn off.
- BigKopp, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1So glad this is finally coming to fruition. I just used to like the clean appearance of facebook, and since the apps launched, that was totally destroyed.
- ZigVicious, on 01/12/2008, -0/+120+? I have friends whose profiles look like this
http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/4018/picture3nu ... - tuntcickle, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1sweet redemption. facebook's needed some trash clean-up for a long time now
- UNL1M1T3D, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I hide about half of the apps on my Facebook already.
- deathscytheh64, on 01/13/2008, -0/+1For the love of God please get this working fast.
- Devilboy666, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1This is made of win and awesome.
- CaptainM4d, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Thank the lord!
Well, I'm an atheist, but the sentiment still stands! Thank the lord! - BrettFromTibet, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1Thank gog... Facebook was becoming a joke. I would like to delete ALL apps and app requests. I can happily live without them. Only Geek Squad types install them.
- Derrelicte, on 01/12/2008, -0/+1I just have all the apps collapsed aside from the wall, information, mini-feed, friends, and graffiti (I like graffiti).
It's very un-obtrusive that way... -
