- Krush, on 10/12/2007, -5/+219G4? I thought they had officially changed it to the Star Trek channel.
- benhorstmann, on 10/12/2007, -4/+168to hell with G4. Patrick, Kevin, and Leo are doing a fine job by themselves...
- MeltedUFO, on 10/12/2007, -4/+158I don't see why G4 doesn't just make a lot of people happy by bringing back The Screensavers.
- chrismcelligott, on 10/12/2007, -3/+153I sure as hell wouldn't mind it.
- Matteos, on 10/12/2007, -7/+140I know... 'cause G4 SUCKS!!!
- esescruz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+104I cant stand G4TV, I would watch TechTV nearly everyday, and then it was gone, I would love to see it come back.
- awkwardhello, on 10/12/2007, -2/+77According to the article, it seems that they are looking for a flashed-based video site, maybe open-source or community created. On a different track, Chris is "going to knock on a few... doors" to gain support and sponsorship.
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+72I guess Chris Pirillo feels left out.
- logiik, on 10/12/2007, -9/+77"Don't forget diggnation (kevin rose)"
Revision3... - awkwardhello, on 10/12/2007, -5/+69I find unification of the content creators under a dedicated channel to be a good thing. IMHO.
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -10/+71Wow! It got 10 Diggs by the time I was done Reading it!
I totally think that the old TechTV gang should start a new tech channel, perhaps air all of Rev 3, TWiT, and DL.TV on the new channel along with some good new content.
And Bring Back Yoshi!!!
As that billionaire said in The Benchwarmers, "If you build it, nerds will come!"
And that is totally what will happen, even if you get half of the digg community.
Dugg!!! - hotrod1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58Oh man, I feel the same exact way. Techtv was an awesome channel and G4 completely ruined it.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52Long live the Screensavers! I sure do miss that show.
- darkzealot89, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52Because we love it
- fluffyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+56"As I remember it Chris P. was part of the problem. The moment they brought him in the show started going down hill."
Oh come on. I was a follower from the very beginning of that channel. While a lot of people bag on Chris he WASN'T a bad guy. You can't fault him for having so much enthusiasm even though he has that unpopular nerd personality some of us are ashamed to admit we share. - dustinhoffman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44While Revision 3, DL.TV, and TWiT are sources of great content, I would have to say I really miss live questions and answers. The pre-recorded questions don't work too hot...I haven't heard a question on TWiT for at least 25+ episodes.
I miss TechTV... I don't think anything will be able to match it for a long time... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45@josegutz
I wouldn't care if I had to install sponsor software, be bombarded with pop-ups, AND make a donation; for TechTV back there is very little I wouldn't put up with. - alphadog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38I think that this is a great idea. I would love to see a reunion of TechTv. The crap that G4 is putting out with there change in format is unbeleivable.
- rlombardo, on 11/05/2008, -0/+34yeah where is yoshi? he was awesome
- oriondr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37No offense to Rose (I love the guy), but it seems to me he keeps starting up new web shows, does like 4 episodes, then makes a new one with different people (other than himself). It kind of gets old..
First there was his The Broken, then Systm, then Diggnation. I realize that Rev 3 is supposed to combine all three or whatever, but really, it's not as if they're making new episodes of the broken or systm. - THEKudosMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I think we all share the same sentiment about what was done to the channel formerly known as TechTV now G4TechTV. It pains me to know that there is pretty much no tech coverage on the channel. That was my favorite channel on TV. Screw MTV & HBO, I had that channel on 24/7, but of course everything changed about 2 years ago.
Damn it.....
But it cheers me up to know that programs like TWIT, Diggnation, and dl.tv exist. I can sleep better knowing that Leo, Kevin, Patrick and all the other TechTV Alumni are in places that are always accessible. - hello2usir, on 10/12/2007, -14/+44Calm down.
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31What about Cat Shwartz?
:o - drshane, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Screw G4, I want my ZDTV
- Zanneth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27I don't know about having user submitted content for TechTV. My favorite part about TechTV were all of the really cool people, like Leo, Patrick, Kevin, and Yoshi.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34From what I've seen so far with G4, I think they are heading toward waht happened to MTV in the 90's... No Music...Just TV... Reality TV that is... What happened to TECH TV, with really good shows and good tips and advice like the screensavers... I am so upset at these money hungry corporate media powerhouses...
- andy101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Diggnation's had upwards of 50 episodes though.
- NJShadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Ya know, it's kinda funny. Supposedly G4's Attack of The Show gets most of, if not all of it's Tech news from Digg.com. Even though the Digg community loves TechTV with a passion. Sooooo, if Kevin Rose can somehow post something big about TechTV, maybe something even bigger will happen. Ya never know.
- idiamin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26G4 "Icons" has gone from profiles of Sid Meier and Shigeru Miyamoto to those gaming legends Jamie Kennedy (why is this guy "famous"?) and Michelle Rodriguez. gaaaahhh... i miss Diane Mizota. G4 apparently is aiming for the audience that finds SpikeTV to be too high falutin.
- knyghtryda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22TechTV was pretty much the ONLY technology programming worth watching. That is, when it was still TechTV. I mean, what other network was able to cover the gamut of total newb talk (Call for Help) to hardware mods and hacks (Yoshi and Kevin on Screensavers) and tech news and commentary (mainly Patrick) without speaking down to people? Thats the key, they don't assume you know everything, but they also don't assume you're a total numb-skull. I say just rent out a office in SF and start shooting :) The fans will definitely come.
- Ironman11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21@jonthegamer
Leo's doing TWiT and Patrick's doing DL.TV. - jejones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21@MeltedUFO: Because it would mean having to admit to being not just wrong, but doggedly wrong for years on end.
G4 managed to make enemies of both the geek population, as they replaced the tech content with idiocy such as a show made up solely of cut scenes and turned TSS first into a ghastly obscenity and then into the talent-free, infinitely worse than obscene AotS, and the gamers, when they found that they had fewer viewers than Ron Popeil and then gutted the game content in favor of third-rate reruns of dead shows, gratuitous sex, and in a final move of desperation, Star Trek reruns.
So... screw G4. Don't do anything that would extend their pathetic death spiral by even a second. Call it the CENSORED Reunion, or the Return of These Green Saviors. Just have the people back on and reminiscing, and ditch the clips. It will be enough. - craiger316, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26This would be a great idea, I cancelled TechTV a few months after G4 took over, it just wasn't the same. The content and the personalities got watered down into 13 year old gamer-pr0n
- k3vin187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I believe that everyone understands that it is gone from TV but that doesn't mean that it can't happen online... and yes there is revision 3 twit and dl.TV but I (and probably many others) would like to see them all come back together on the same show in some sort of video and not just in twit round table audio
- leolaporte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18It's only dead if you give up. DL.TV is practically Screen Savers. I think it's very possible that we can bring back TSS.
- napkinback, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23What the hell? As much as it sucked to lose TechTV, the parent is pointing out a lot of what we wouldn't have if all of the people we love to listen to hadn't been forced to innovate. Leo is a walking billboard for all that you can do when given the opportunity; do you think he'd have been able to develop all of those shows if he was still working for TechTV or *shudder* stayed with G4?
TSS and TechTV are gone. And, you know what, things couldn't have worked out better for most of our favorites. - D4V1S, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Last time I saw Yoshi he was on "From The Shadows"
www.fromtheshadows.tv - dss311, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Where are they now?
Kevin Rose = Digg.com
Pat Norton = DL.tv
Leo Laporte = kfi radio shows/TWIT
Sumi Das = National correspondent for CNN
Erica Hill = CNN HLN
Morgan Webb = ?
Sarah Lane = Married, Traveling world
Kat Schwartz = ?
Chris Parillo = chris.pirillo.com
Martin Seargent = ?
Jesica Corbin = ?
Kate Botello = ? - theunderground5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I use to love the screen savers, then they turned into attack of the show and then the last time i watched was the day that kevin rose left, it would be really kool if there was something like the screen savers again
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I am really pissed off at G4 for changing Icons, even though they made a spin off "Gamemakers"
The only shows I ever watch on G4 is X-play (at least they haven't changed it much), Cinematech, and Gamemakers.
Everything else sucks... horribly! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I hope this gets on diggnation, and kevin and alex would talk about it.
- jgreene777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13until television execs learn how to actually LISTEN to their customers, none of this crap will change for any network.
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13We just need a site, call it TechTVReborn.com or something and link all that goodness together!
- NoOnEx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Subscribe to the KFI podcast or listen to it live... its leo and all he does is answer questions....
- leolaporte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I would say that that's the long term goal of TWiT.tv - but the amazing interest in the reunion idea leads me to believe that it might even be something we could get on regular TV. I wouldn't be opposed to that as long as we owned it this time.
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I never got to watch TechTV so I say go for it.
- DoubleTap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I think TechTV fans (of which I am a huge one) tend to overestimate their pull on the whole of society. There was a reason that TechTV basically had to go on the block and that is because they never made any money. 10 diggs in such a short period of time on a site like Digg.com doesn't mean much, because a large majority of the users are former TechTV geeks. Hell, KR promoted Digg on TSS pretending like he happened to run across it one day. Put it out on CNN.com and most people would skip over this story saying "What the hell is TechTV". Not trying to piss on any parades, just stating a reality. With that said, I love TechTV and the new medium is going to be IPTV and I think the success of Leo, Patrick, and Kevin speaks to the need for a reunion. Just don't think that there will be a new TechTV production starting in the fall. Especially when nerds like us aren't willing to pony up a few bucks a month to keep these guys paid.
- TravisS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This post probably got more diggs than G4s top show got viewers.
- DanteDefiance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13G4 has become to tech TV what MTV has become to music. Down with G4! All hail TechTV!
- EDWINPR19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10if it was not for tech TV i would not know as much about computers as i do now they real knew how to explain it in a way that all of us could understand.
