- Bonekhan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Yes, a vast majority of the video consuming crowd chooses YouTube when trying to find online videos. But there is a simple reason for that: YouTube did it first, and continues to do it right. The fact that other video hosting platforms may provide better resolutions, uploading options, and overall consumption is dwarfed by the sheer numbers that YouTube possess. Two hundred million is a very difficult number to argue with.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12They didn't do it first. There were many other sites to get videos before YouTube. The reality is that YouTube did it best, without ads, because it was bankrolled. They made it simple by using ***** VP3 Flash video, which cost them nothing to encode and let everyone watch them. They created a loss generating liability, but did so trying as hard as possible to minimize their monthly losses, in such a way that the venture capital from Sequoia was actually enough to sustain their "model", if you can even call it that.
For all the videos on YouTube, most are crap. As they start to ramp up the ad machine there's going to be a void for what YouTube "was", and someone is going to try and fill it. - drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -3/+10There's a lot of choices these days, choices are good :)
- Crash1337, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Youtube used to be good...Now the front page "most viewed" is just full of random rubbish.
- thegayexpat, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8"But there is a simple reason for that: YouTube did it first, and continues to do it right." - Yes, YouTube created what resulted in a mass pop culture archive that allowed people to see everything from the latest music videos to clips that people had been talking about for years. It brought people in, and they stayed. Why did they need to look at anything else?
- strictnein, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Welcome to the Internet
- Narcowski, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Him being a developer and shamelessly plugging his product is not okay. I use Stage6.
- Cherubim, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9YouTube is full of mindless trash.
- kidcodea, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4dude it doesnt even do fullscreen on double click or at least instant...
sux. seen much better.
stage6 is ok - dragonlink2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5is anyone else the least bit surprised that Yahoo! is second place?
- orangysb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2dude use your brain, a simple thinking would tell you that this number is inclusive of the worldwide audience, you know, this world doesn't just consist of usa....
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3there is some great stuff on youtube (as well as absolute trash but this is a democrcy) but the site itself could be much more appealing with some style
- invasi0n, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3For me Youtube is good to spend time and nothing more. And the second is Metacafe. I know the quality is crap but I just want to spend my time. Anyway if I want to upload something serious, not stupid cell phone made clips, Bliptv or Stage6 are the best places till now.
- brianbb98, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1pacman likes porntube?
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1Holy ***** locojones, you are the reason why everyone else in the world thinks Americans are dumb. Unless you thought this article was only about America, you need to go back to the fifth grade man. Why is it that Americans think the Internet is only for them?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1YouTube looks like *****, from the site itself to the crap it hosts. And that's just perfect for catering to a nation, nay a world, of ***** MORONS.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1LEAVE YOUTUBE ALOONNEE!
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1200+ million unique visitors is a huge amount, that means approximately 1 in every 32 people *in the world* visit YouTube every month. That is a ***** of people using one video service.
- eldridgea, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2FTA "ClipShack, while mostly a YouTube clone, has an area where you can use a webcam to add movie, book, video game, and TV show reviews directly to the site."
Doesn't youtube have a webcam section? - tehxen3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ummm ever heard of other countries?
- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -1/+2I see no problem with YouTube being associated with being the best online video provider as long as they are. That's capitalism, mang.
- Beerduck, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My vote goes for Stage6. I love it because they stream divx videos and the quality is great. Also, divx is far less demanding to run. On my work computer, full screen Youtube .flv's are a bit choppy, but Stage6 divx streams work great.
It just hasn't gained that much popularity yet because everyone is so accustomed to Youtube. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1Like Digg? :-) Just kidding. Kind of.
- sickanimations, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1actually, youporn > porntube > youtube
- schrankage, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Most Americans are dumb, that's why.
YouTube recently made different domains for different countries, too. - bridow, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4wait a minute. yahoo has video?
- amitgawande, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I just wonder if youtube stands first at 205,593,000 unique visitor/month with yahoo at 48,026,000, what are others doing?
- mortigon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1it's pornotube.com, not porntube
- Bonekhan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Honestly, guys, even if they suck horribly, are the worst video service around, et cetera... 200 million people make a big difference. I realize it isn't the best site, I wasn't trying to defend them. I'm just saying: they were the first decent video site, managed to draw in a crowd, and now the community self-sustains itself!
- sleeknerve, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2yes, its actually really kool, u can view music videos for free if you have an account
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Chris Crocker.
- locojones, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Oh please. This screams "marketing puff piece" for Youtube. Who honestly believes that Youtube gets 200 million unique visitors per month??? Riiiight, in a country of only 300 million people, with only 60 million of those households having access to broadband connections. Marked as inaccurate for what it is.
- allimooney, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Two hundred million clips of people humping furniture and singing into Swiffers.... it all depends on what you are looking to do with your videos. if you just want to upload personal clips or send around one-off virals, YouTube works. if you want to video blog, get an audience, advertisers, etc... there are obviously much better options (blip seems to be the clear winner.)
- HUKI365, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I think Youtube adds is where AdBlock will try and fail. I think this is the beginning of the fall for AdBlock. Publishers are beginning to notice - and they don't like what they're seeing.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Having a real love life>having to beat off to porn
- brettotte1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1wow. i realize i've never been to video.yahoo.com and lo & behold is the hot chick on the front page that write's for the lincoln journal star that i read everyday! small freakin world
- SunAlex, on 09/06/2008, -0/+0You Tube is my favorite one. But I think there are some errors with numbers!)
