- muleskinner, on 03/03/2009, -1/+36Never heard of it, won't miss it.
- tgc1, on 03/03/2009, -0/+34"Sorry guys the cloud evaporated on us... back to selling insanely priced ink cartidges."
- stack3r, on 03/03/2009, -0/+16This is what happens when you try to capitalise on a new marketing word such as "Cloud".
- pagemap, on 03/03/2009, -2/+15HP had such a service? Never heard of it, and I consider myself on top of most tech news. Perhaps they should have done more to market it.
- josepablos, on 03/03/2009, -1/+14first yahoo briefcase and now this .. OMG :(
- ajhaji, on 03/03/2009, -0/+10Where did that thumbnail come from?
- danr2c2, on 03/03/2009, -0/+6I only clicked for the thumbnail... so sad that it is only just a ghostnail.
- colto, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5Maybe it just precipitated.
- jakem1, on 03/03/2009, -0/+5This is precisely why it's far too early to be moving much of your stuff into the cloud. If you can't trust a company as big as HP to take cloud services seriously and maintain their products then who can you trust? Every other day stories are hitting the news of cloud services shutting down permanently or suffering major outages. Until companies can offer something rock-solid and permanent there's just no point wasting time on this sort of thing.
- dsenman, on 03/03/2009, -2/+5at least try to make your spam sound legitimate
- strictnein, on 03/03/2009, -0/+2I backup my documents on my home server with Carbonite. To me, a backup isn't really a backup if it's all on site.
- FastZ, on 03/03/2009, -1/+3Classic misdirection. I, too, clicked on this because of the thumbnail hoping it was a story behind how the picture came to be, but was smacked in the face with an uninteresting story about HP shutting down their online storage service. Not happy about this one bit.
- IamZed, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1HP is big in the home server market now. Seems a conflict of interests to run both businesses. .
- strictnein, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Thanks Captain Obvious. The question is, why is that the image shown for this story?
- Eurynom0s, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1They should have just put the cloud in some trousers and everything would have been okay.
- Eorster, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1Does this me Cloud 2.0 is doomed?
- jakem1, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1This service was originally marketed to complement their Home Server products.
- eon42, on 03/03/2009, -0/+1same.... :(
- tripleberry, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1Hey!..Hey!...HP get off of my Cloud!
- tomato1324, on 03/03/2009, -4/+4and people complained about mobileme.....
- J3ph42, on 06/22/2009, -0/+0A good online storage that can replace USB flash as long as you have internet access is dropbox and if you use this link, https://www.getdropbox.com/referrals/NTExNzkyNTk you'll get an extra 250mb when you finish installing the client software (which is optional afterwords).
- vidalsasoon, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1you need really good devs to build a "Cloud". Everything that comes out of HP is utter ***** so no surprises that it failed so quickly.
- heresy_fnord, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1The word "cloud" is mentioned only once in the article and it isn't the focus. Submitter is changing titles to sway people against cloud computing maybe? It would have been more appropriate to call it "HP shuts down is online backup service". Just saying...
- zippy757, on 03/03/2009, -1/+1HP (EDS) are only for the mega mega companies. They don't care about middle or smaller companies.
- MountainManMark, on 03/03/2009, -2/+1damn lol and i thought this was an article about marijuana vaporizers
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -2/+1Yeah I wasn't sure how to say that without sounding like spam, but I was being serious, I don't work for them or anything. Lifehacker has a lot of coverage on Mozy, in comparison with other backup services as well: http://lifehacker.com/search/mozy/ and if you just Google the name you will see other good reviews too, really cheap unlimited backup. I was just trying to help some diggers out, I promise! :)
- Pknese, on 03/03/2009, -1/+0It's the winner of the "Not my job" award.
Seriously, it's been making it's way through the interwebnets for years now. - kpartlow, on 03/03/2009, -2/+0I predict you'll see many more of these companies disappear until you only have the biggies like carbonite, mozy, and http://www.myotherdrive.com providing your online storage.
- yiapanis, on 03/03/2009, -2/+0It's not in their DNA - never will be
- frieddonuts, on 03/03/2009, -8/+2Clouds are also plural.
- diggan8, on 03/03/2009, -12/+4I totally thought this was a Final Fantasy article.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -13/+5Mozy is another backup service I highly recommend with rave reviews all over the net. They are currently offering a promo to previous HP storage customers of 20% off, but anyone can use the coupon code.
